Wow, I really feel like a misfit here but that's okay. I love podcasts, too, but my tastes are much different than what is listed here. I am somewhat, and I do mean somewhat, of a conspiracy theorist so I listen to a lot of the radio shows on Truth Frequency Radio (they have everything from world economics, survivalist stuff, the Illuminati and New World Order, alternative health, aliens, esoteric religions, Red Pill Christianity, etc.) I'm not a Christian but I still like to study and learn about it so I listen to Wretched Radio (it's about current topics from an evangelical viewpoint.) I love New Agey stuff so I listen to Sevan Bomar a lot.

I am a podcast ADDICT. I will second/third/one millionth all the npr references, from this American life to radiolab to wait wait don't tell me to serial. All awesome.

Here's a few I haven't seen yet listed:

WARNING NOTE: I tend to like things that are "R" rated. so everything here has swearing, probably talks about sex at points, etc.

1. Sanspantsradio--
great group of folks that have a series of different podcasts. They have several D&D campaigns, a sci-fi show that is HILARIOUS called "plumbing the death star", Movie maintenance (where they offer re-writes of horrible movies), and It's Just good business, business pitching gig-- which sounds weird but it is HILARIOUS. There's a couple others, but Plumbing the death star and D&D is for nerds are my favorites by far. start with "is the imperial army racist" sanspantsradio.com

2. harmontown--
this show is addictive, and kinda heartbreaking in parts. Dan Harmon (community, rick and morty, and other things) has a weekly gathering with comedians. it's hilarious. go all the way back to the beginning and listen through. It's sad in that you get to watch him fall in love with his girlfriend, get married to her, and then get divorced-- all small parts of the podcast itself. Really funny, really good. if you don't start at the beginning, search for the one with bobcat goldwaith and robin Williams-- it's genius. harmontown.com

3. the worst idea of all time--
I recommend joining howl.fm with the free month they provide and starting with season one, which is the best of the three seasons they have so far. the two podcasters decide to watch the same ***horrible***movie, once a week, for a year and podcast it. Season one is grown ups2. You literally get to listen to two men lose their minds. at one point, one of them says: "this podcast is the happiest point in my life because it's the furthest away from having to watch this movie again". I laughed so hard I cried on several occasions. you have to start at the beginning with this one. worstideaofalltime.com

4. you made it weird--
this is a great podcast, in that it does exactly what it says. Pete Holmes interviews people for ~2 hours (each podcast is long), and makes it uncomfortable/weird. It features a lot of comedians/celebrities, but what's nice about it is that the podcasts are so long that eventually even the most professional person loses their schtick and becomes real-- and that's when things get touching and weird and sad and hilarious. start with either louie Anderson (I bawled) or lucas bros (blew my mind, laughed so hard I cried) nerdist.com/podcasts/you-made-it-weird-cha
nnel

5. Welcome to Nightvale
It took me a while to appreciate nightvale. I listened to a podcast a while back and just didn't get it. in fact, I had to read about it on buzzfeed first before I started to realize the storyline hidden in the podcasts. It's genius. Read the buzzfeed article first: buzzfeed.com/sedem/the-42-stages-of-welcom
e-to-night-vale-addiction-cjrb?utm_ter
m=.fm7oZ7Grj
, then start at the beginning, your life will change: www.welcometonightvale.com

6. Alice isn't Dead and all other nightvale stuff:
Creepy, gorgeous funny. Just listen to them. Every single podcast here is worth every minute: www.nightvalepresents.com/

7. Vegan stuff: colleen Patrick-Goudreau, stages of veganism.
Yup, I'm a vegan, but I'm not a dick about it. Colleen can be a little--- self-aggrandizing---, but her podcast, in particular her stages of veganism, touched me very deeply, and gave me a sense of peace and solace about it. I recommend everyone listen to it-- especially if you know a vegan. This is not an attempt to make anyone a vegan, but to illuminate what the process of becoming a vegan is. It's life shattering, and super joyous. Her other podcasts are also very enjoyable, but this one in particular really helped me when I was feeling very alone as a vegan. soundcloud.com/colleen-patrick-goudreau/se
ts/from-consumption-to-compassion

8. Along the same line, Rich Roll's podcast is super motivating. He's an ultra runner and vegan and has great interviews and guests. If you're needing motivation to train, to stay on a food plan, to not lose your sh*t- he's a good place to go. NOTE: you made it weird also interviewed him. Great podcast crossover I recommend if you want to get an idea of either. richroll.com/category/podcast

There are so so so so so many more..... but that's a good start.

Great suggestions! I'm taking notes on some of these to check out.

I use the Charity Miles app during walks, runs and bike rides to earn donations to charities from different companies. I recently heard he does a podcast now. I've listened to a few episodes so far and I love it.

He interviews people making a difference in the world while he runs or walks with them.

Love seeing all these recommendations for "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" and "Ask Me Another." I used to listen to those at work, except they're quiz shows, so I had a bad habit of muttering the answer and getting annoyed when the contestant didn't know it... LOL.

Basically, just download the NPR app and go to town...

In addition to podcasts and audio books, I really like Broadway soundtracks. "The Book of Mormon" and "Hamilton" are two of my favorites.

No, really. I'm a mermaid.

Right now, Mindpump - fitness primarily strength related, but 3 guys from 3 different perspectives and the part I like best is the readily admit if they had ... misinformation in the past. As new studies come out and new information - they update their recommendations & explain why. For example, in the beginning they used and recommend pre-workouts - now that have learned they are pretty much garbage and let people know to stay away.

I listen to too many podcasts to list, for but for working out, my favorite is The Adventure Zone. It's a podcast in which three brothers play Dungeons and Dragons with their dad. OK, now, I know, D&D is for nerds. I don't play it and never will, but these guys are incredible storytellers and very, very funny. I listen while I swim laps and it keeps me going for miles. Lots of swearing, though, so head's up.

I LOVE podcasts. I listen to them while on my daily walks. My favorite is a funny show about medical stuff, called Sawbones. My neighbors must think I'm crazy, because I walk down the block just laughing. Give it a try, it's free on iTunes!

Brandi Glanville, Unfiltered

She does a celebrity gossip podcast. Was on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Sometimes interviews other Housewives. Plus others. She was married to Eddie Cibrian. Until he cheated on her with a former child star.

She is deliciously uncensored and that's why it's called Unfiltered.

Anyhow, if you read my post, I still have to see how I can get back my two accounts. Maybe my only way is to go to an Apple store. I've got nowhere with e-mails or calling.

the Garrison Keillor broadcast is A Prairie Home Companion. I haven't listened to it since he retired, but this weekend's cast includes Tig Notaro. I love her, so I'll have to check out that episode!

I'm glad you mentioned it. I wouldn't have known that Tig was scheduled.

I really dig the Crooked Media podcasts. The company was formed by a few of President Obama's former staff, but they have a podcast for almost every day of the week, covering current events, foreign policy, and some general day to day conversations. Definitely a left-slanted podcast though.

Also, I love My Favorite Murder. It's a comedy podcast by two women in California talking about murder. I wish there were a better way to describe it, but that's really what it is. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but now I'm addicted. They don't get much into the gruesome details, and there's a bunch of swearing, but if you don't mind that, this is a good one.

thank you everyone for this interesting thread ( conversation).

I used to listen to about 5 of them. Sometimes I'd switch them out. I'll try and remember which ones I got.

I got a five minute motivational one. I wish I could remember the name of it. I think it was the Daily talk . The guy was really positive.

I listed to Enjoying Everyday Life by Joyce Meyer.

I liked Daily Audio Bible. This guy not only read with expression, but it has a contemporary music background. They did use alot of versions, but that would give one a bunch of nuances of the vocabulary, if one listened regularly.

I did listen to one that poetry for the day.

I loved PBS Garrison Kellar about a place called Lake Weltagon.( not sure on the spelling ). The stories are outrageously funny!!! The characters are outrageous . I was introduced to these by my parents on long car rides.

I got some music ones and how to/ teaching of various sorts.

So now I can't use my I tunes accounts or Apple Nano because I can't remember my passwords. Not only that we have a different computer.

I tried e-mailing and making phone calls, and got nowhere.

BTW- when I last looked, Itunes had alot less choices.

Mike Rowe's podcast. I loved him as host of Dirty Jobs and I like the stories he tells on his podcasts.

This is a great question. I love podcasts; have listened to them for many years. I am not all that loyal though. These are some of my fav at the moment. I use the Podcast Addict app on my phone.

Category -- Self improvement:
* Professional Christian Coaching Today (title is slightly misleading, it has entreprenuership following)
* Happier with Gretchen Rubin
* Building relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman (author of the love languages)
* Coaching for leaders (these are short and professionally done with good content)
* The Life Coach School (Brooke Castillo - she has a huge following, I find *most* of her advice to be sound)

Category -- Money/Finance:
* So Money with Farnoosh torabi
* Eventual Millionaire
* Freaknomics radio (highly suggested to me to listen to but i've had a hard time getting into it but hugely popular)

Category -- Faith:
* John Eldredge and Ransomed Heart (this is the guy who wrote "Wild at heart" -phenomenal book)
* Running to win
* To every man an answer (call in show, people ask great questions)
* Chrystal evans hurst

Category -- Health and Fitness:
* Nutrition Diva
* "Girls gone WOD" was recommended to me as a great fitness podcast but I have a hard time getting into it. Fitness fans might give it a try.
(I have tried SEVERAL fitness/health/clean eating podcasts but have never found one that jives with me and where I am at)

Category -- Just interesting stuff:
* Stuff you should know (I highly suggest the episode on POOP - yes POOP, very educational)
* Stuff you missed in history class
* Futility closet (true crime plus a brain teaser)
* Komando on demand (computer, internet hacks)
* In sight (2 ladies deep dive into cold cases and hypothesize their theories)
* Already gone (deep dive into cold cases)
* Shmanners (manners related, great advice if you can endure the mindless banter)

Welcome to Nightvale -- surrealist humour and social commentary? yes please
History HIIT - dan snow is one of my favourite historians, which is saying something because he doesn't even cover my area of interest that I studied in university
Mom and Dad Are Fighting - I'm not a parent, but this is usually a good podcast (sort of hit or miss because it's too US centric for my taste, but its an American podcast so I'm not really sure what I expected). As a student teacher, it's at least interesting to get parents perspectives on issues

I have a list of podcasts I'd like to try out, but I haven't had chance to download them and listen to them. I usually save podcasts for the school year. I have an hour commute to the college, so I can usually get through two

I discovered podcasts with the Serial story from This American Life. I was mesmerized by that one, but I didn't appreciate what a shocking effect a podcast could have until I listened to their second season, S Town. Now I can't get enough of them. They're fascinating and so unique from another. Here are a few I've thoroughly enjoyed:
Katie Couric (I felt like I was in the kitchen w/ her and the Barefoot Contessa);
You Must Remember This (stories from Hollywood's first century - loved the 2 segments on Abbot and Costello);
The Moth - true stories told live (so many tales, so little time);
Stuff You Missed in History Class (I get to pick and choose!);
The Thrilling Adventure Hour - a staged show in the style of old-time radio performed live. (I LOVE listening to this kind of radio show and, yes, I've been a long-time Prairie Home Companion fan.)

So essentially, great podcasts too numerous to name. And I know I've only tapped the tip of the iceberg, so would love to hear what your favorites are.

BTW, these stories also serve me well when I'm tempted to eat something that is seriously not good for me. I find a podcast to listen to and then I find something that needs doing where I can listen while I work. It redirects my focus and by the end of the story I find my cravings have usually disappeared.

Thanks in advance for responding! emoticon
