Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering the same thing. Also, I like to earn points and I personally set a goal of being at a certain level by a certain date. This way it keeps me active on the site and keeping up w/ everything that I am eating as well as my workouts.

Thank you for asking these questions. I like to get on SparkPeople and get the points. I find that getting the points also prompts me to read the articles. For instance, when I was on the Health A-Z (which by the way if you read two articles you get 6 points), I found an article on tremors. My best friend has been so anxious about how her hands have been shaking. She was sure that she has Parkinsons. But when I read that article I cut and pasted it and sent it to her. It described her to a T. It has so relieved her mind that I am so thankful for that article and even though I went to this to get the 3 points for each article, I learned something that helped someone else. She is still keeping her doctor's appointment but she is so relieved that it isn't Parkinsons. The main test to know the difference is that with Parkinsons the tremors are when they are at rest. But with the tremors she has they are there when she is holding a cup of coffee or trying to write, basically when she is performing a task.
My point is, if I had not gone into the section to get the points I would not have found that article. So I am thankful that I treat this kind of like a game and get as many points as I can.

I asked this same question in the sparkpeople thread and got the same answer about the 3rd party issue. At first I thought we were getting points for reading the Health A-Z articles (it says at the bottom that we are) but we're not. We do get 30 points now for the regular articles that we have always gotten points for.

Spark People pulled Health News from the site as they couldn't come to an agreement with the supplier of the news, Health Day. You can go to their site to see who carries their daily news, as SP won't be carrying it any longer.

I know there was a recent post about "hustling for points". I'm aware that many do it, but I seriously enjoy the articles and reading the daily health news was a favorite. It seems to be gone. I've also noticed that things change up time to time. Does it have to do with "levels" ?
For instance, it was always 15 points a day total for message posts, now it's 21. Plus, whatever happened to Sparks Radio? I enjoyed that as well.
Sometimes points appear and I don't even know how I got them. My personality is reward driven, so I do like the points.
One more thing. I have to laugh when someone says points don't matter to them when they are at level 20. LOL - it took a heck of a lot of points to get there. More power to you, but I don't buy that they don't matter just because you can't get anymore.
