I felt sorry for Messi, he didn't really want to accept the best player award at all, he knew the truth. I felt it was a "consolation prize" from FIFA.

But it's done for another 4 years..............

The US might not be very good, but neither is Mexico.

I really wish people would stop wearing seleccion Mexican jerseys and t-shirts. Your team lost weeks ago--GET OVER IT.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

IVYXXO,

The US team may not be considered much of a team, but it did a lot better than world class teams like Spain, Italy, England and Portugal. In fact, I think the US fielded a better team than Brazil did this year. I think the US team has made good progress and get better each time they advance to the Cup.

For now...

Germany beat Portugal 4-0. That was the first sign of Germany's dominance in the cup this year. I was thrilled at how well the US played against them. Only giving up one goal was a huge plus for them. When the points were tallied, the US was on to the speed round and Portugal was out.

I didn't think Brazil had that good a team this year. I'm surprized they got as far as they did and the only reason I think they did was because the refs were deciding in their favor.

I think Germany is going to take it this year. Argentina is tough, but not tough enough.

I guess I'm rooting for Argentina in the final then...was really hoping for the Netherlands to pull through, but it should be a good match!

As for Brazil, I read an article that suggested that the team this year was under *such* high expectations (home team, traditional football powerhouse, avenging the 1950 WC, etc) from themselves, the media, and the entire country that once the first goal happened, their confidence was shaken and they were paralyzed by the fear of "we can't lose this." Once the second goal happened, their mental fortitude collapsed entirely and that was the game. If you look at the match before the first goal, it looked like each team was playing well and that it was going to be a competitive match rather than the slaughter that it was. Brazil scored first (in the matches it scored in) in every match it played this year except against Croatia and Germany (and I suppose in the Croatia match, since it was an own goal, it could be argued that it doesn't really count for the purposes of my point). Basically, Brazil couldn't handle the pressure of having to come from behind.

WOW... 7-1 ? that was an epic beat down. The US only gave up one goal to Germany in the opening round. What happened to Brasil ? They fell apart.

Now we wait for the outcome of Argentina and the Netherlands.

I'm rooting for Germany too !

Nothing against Brasil, but I think they aren't a good a team as they've been in past. I think Maradona was right. I think the refs are letting offenses pass because everyone is worried the country will explode if they get knocked out. Which could happen.

Putting down the Holland team for being European and guero=RACIST.

Brown people hating white people is just as bad as the opposite and absolutely as racist.

yeah... it's not... uhmm it's not racist... I mean, if you translate "pinche" as "f*ckin'" and "puto" as "faggot" then of course it will sound bad but that's not what it actually means....
I mean, you can even use "pinche" and "I love you" in the same sentence... like...
Pinche Hunter I love you :) emoticon
And yeah, I, too think they overreacted about the puto thing... in that context it isn't homophobic at all.

We are rooting for Germany, because we were born there, and immigrated over here. It's been fun to watch, at least something new on tv in the summer!

It would have been nice if the US had made it to the final 8. oh well. I still think the US team did very well when you consider that Spain, Italy and a whole bunch of other really great teams didn't even make it to the speed round.

So, who to root for now ? Costa Rica ? the Netherlands ? hmmmmm.....

I'm rooting for the US of course, but I've been trying to watch as many of the games as I can. Belgium will be a good match to watch with the US. I also have been following the Netherlands, Colombia & Costa Rica. Argentina has been fun to watch too.

I watched the Premier League in England this year and so I recognize a lot of the players in the Cup that has made it so much fun!

Yes, it's Belgium for us!

Germany played their usual, "oh well, we don't need to hurry" game though, have done that for too many times, boring to viewers, but they get paid anyway, so it doesn't matter. One of the bad things about professional sports in general.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

My husband is an ice hockey nut, too, but a bigger soccer nut, coming from Germany to the US..................we won't go anywhere today because no chance of missing the game.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

That being said, hopefully the delivery of my table lines up with the USA-Germany match so I can watch/hear most of the game.

We are excited to watch tomorrow, and have planned our day around it, lol. Even doctor appt. has been changed to accommodate the games.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

XHUNTERX,

You're not rooting for Argentina. Is that because Maradonna said he was going to run naked through the streets of Buenos Aries if they won the cup ?

LOL

Worse, that wasn't the first time he did it either. Suarez has a history of unsportsman like behavior on the field. FIFA needs to throw the book at him.

Oh yeah, bummed and a little shocked. Italy is out and the US has a chance to get in if they can beat or tie Germany. I'd say Jurgen Klinsmann was a great choice for coach of the US team.

I cannot believe Luis Suarez bit another player. What a loser!

I was really busy this past few days and missed quite a few games. I'm hoping to watch a few games today though.

Go Germany!
Go USA!

I'm an American but live in Germany so I am tied between the two! Tomorrow will be tough.
