Eat it everyday, but I buy the fat free plain greek for the protein and add a splash of sugar free calorie free torani syrup. Makes a great dessert with no guilt. Try freezing it to the consistency of a slushy.
And, in my case, yogurt is full of carbs, too (which is tabu to us per our endocrinologist's Rx diet). Kefir is in the same category.
The fats I don't mind. It makes me crazy that you can't find much of anything that isn't low/reduced/no fat anymore. Even if I was to buy kefir now and then, the only flavor that hasn't been fat-altered is the plain... and then I have to "doctor" it with flavorings. Just not worth it, IMO.
On the rare instance I buy some yogurt, it's always the coconut-milk variety, but that's not much better regarding carbs. I've bought a few of the "kiddie" (regular) yogurts, which are smaller.... but although I like yogurt, it isn't worth that extra or "forbidden" stuff. So much for "health food!"

In my local stores, the Greek Yogurt costs a lot more and is less tasty (and not lower in calories) so I avoid that. I don't believe it is "necessary" for health.
I do like the light yogurts; most of them that I choose are flavored and yes...aghast, artificially sweetened. Sometimes I buy unsweetened, plain low fat yogurt but I add fresh fruit and again, Splenda. Yummy, and fits in well with my calorie allotment for the day!
And keep in mind, if you are on certain medications, the probiotic yogurts touted out there may mess up your medications, so that they don't work. My husband is not allowed to eat yogurt, ever, because of this. Probiotic is not a good thing for everyone. Enjoy the fat free or low fat kind, there are so many brands, it may take you awhile to find the one you like, that likes you back.
Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Good for you for noticing. We've all been raised with the idea that yogurt is "health food," but there are some brands whose nutrition label looks exactly like a Ben & Jerry's label. Next time you'll know to look at the labels before you buy.
It's true that we need fat and some fat is good for us, but the saturated fat in high-fat dairy probably isn't. The latest research shows that saturated fat is *not as bad as we thought,* which is a long way away from "good for you." And large amounts of fat do make it harder to lose weight. If you really like this yogurt, you might come back to it once you're closer to your goal weight, but right now, unneeded fat is definitely not good for you because you're still dangerously obese. Reducing calories to get some of the weight off is the most important thing for your health for the next year or so. That doesn't mean you have to go to non-fat, artificially-sweetened stuff, but look for a brand that is low fat and maybe reduced sugar. If you eat meat, cheese, and/or eggs, though, then you might want non-fat dairy. You're getting all the saturated fat you need from those other foods.

Yogurt can be high in fat as well as sugar. However, that doesn't necessarily make it bad for a person. In fact, there are studies that show that eating yogurt (which is probiotic) on a regular basis can help a person lose weight.
There are some very high calorie brands of yogurt. However, Chobani makes a very tasty Greek yogurt called Chobani 100 that is only 100 calories, low fat and lower sugar. Most yogurts are between 100-240 calories per container. So, if you are concerned about calories, then look for the lower calorie options.
There are lots of different brands out there. Personally, I do favor Greek style yogurts like Fage, Chobani or Oikos. Muller makes a tasty yogurt too. they are fairly new on the yogurt market.
Fat is good for you. The problem with the yogurt, assuming that it is the kind packaged for individual portions, is likley the sugar. Try eating plain Greek Yogurt and adding your own fruit and skipping the added sweetener altogether. You'll get the protein and fat you need without all of the added extras, and you'll probably be able to eat a bigger portion because of all the sugar calories you'll be saving.

I thought I would be getting off to a great start this morning till I entered the yogurt I just ate into my tracker. It is loaded with calories and fat. Well, now I know and I will certainly watch it from now on
