I have had this issue my whole life ... even when I was a size 4.

Some times it is our weight ... but for most of us it is how we are built. I use iron on patches almost as soon as I purchase my jeans. With the lack of quality we are facing, this has become my practice more and more.

Uh...I had thigh gap when I weighed 250 pounds. It's not a weight thing, it has to do with how you are built and where you carry your fat. It isn't unrealistic if you happen to have the right body type.

I would patch your jeans with another old pair and maybe buy a different brand next time.

Patches sound like a good idea. I feel like the jeans are only going to start going faster as I have started taking breaks during my work day for walks.

I also miss the days of quality clothing that didn't cost a fortune. Maybe when I get down to my goal weight and keep it off I will invest in much higher quality jeans.

Anarie, that is a good idea. I have had this problem with certain brands of jeans and dress pants. I buy super cheap right now since I keep going down in size, clearance rack is the first place I go. Once I reach my goal size, I will probably spend more on my clothing.

A previous poster mentioned iron-on patches to repair the holes. You can also use them to prevent (or at least delay) the holes. Lay a pair of old jeans next to your new ones, inside-out, and use the old ones as a guide to reinforce the new ones.

I just had that happen recently, for the first time, with my good pair of jeans ($65+). So sad, but I wore them for about 4 months daily.

My advice? Wear skirts! :)

The bones in your legs have to be set far apart on your hips. And are often bowed outward. To achieve a healthy thigh gap. If you don't have this then chances of a thigh gap are pretty slim. (no pun intended)

Even when I weighed 110 lbs and had 7% body fat, my thighs still rubbed together. Not as much, but they still rubbed together

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

I can't tell you how to prevent it, but I can tell you that I have been dealing with it as well. I probably throw away at least 4 pairs of pants a year because of it. They never wear out in the seam, always in the middle of the fabric, where a patch would be noticeable. I suppose you could try patching them from the inside before the holes start, but not sure how it would look and feel. I just toss them and buy new.

Feed your head.

Here's the problem people...first lets look at your legs...are you bow legged? Or (like myself) knock kneed? It doesn't matter how thin my legs get, since I knock kneed my things ALWAYS rub together. I always have holes or extra wear in the thigh area. ]
And you others are correct...quality clothes as well. Nothing gets me more angry than having decent clothes wasted for this issue..
Thighs rubbing together also can be painful. I wear biker shorts under my skirts. and under my walking shorts for more comfort. You really can't see this under you cloths... the thinner the better.

My thighs have always rubbed together. No matter what I weigh. Although I have never had the problem of inner thigh holes in my jeans. And some of my jeans I have had for ten years. And I have bought expensive jeans, Lucky Brand, Rock and Republic. As well as cheap jeans, Old Navy and Walmart. Frayed cuffs? Now that is a whole different story.

Doesn't matter what brand I seem to buy. All my jeans last a long time. My jeans are all fine and they are at least three years old.

okay..don't laugh.. I had this happen about two years ago..sat down at breakfast and noticed a hole in my jeans at the inner thigh and was a bit shocked; took them of and noted small holes in the other leg, too. I had never seen anything like that and kind of thought my cat might have chewed them as I had left them lying on the floor. Tossed them out. They were a vanderbilt pair of black jeans that I had loved and not worn that often. Then that happened to a 'nice' pair of black dressy pants I'd worn for not that long.. and never left on the floor.. that was of a thinner fabric, though I have two more pairs of pants from that place different colors and they have not had that happen.. so I'm thinking it could be the fabric... I have never had that happen since..it was just weird, I thought. And I buy jeans and pants from a lot of places.. all styles, colors, etc.
also bought a couple new tops this winter and wore one once.and the side seams had holes..not sewn properly; not a tight fitting top...kind of a flowy tunic type thing. Things are just not made well and we don't always stand in stores checking seams before purchasing.

I found this to happen with some of the narrow legged jeans, so I went back to wearing the wider legs. Could also be the fabric, I bought a pair from walmart that ripped around the seams and they fit perfectly!

ANDCOWSFLY,

You're assuming the holes are being caused by your legs rubbing together. It could be the jeans you're buying are made from poor quality cloth. I've noticed that over the years, the quality of jeans has diminished.

There was a time, jeans seemed to last forever. Not so. Not any more. I've noticed that my pants start wearing out (from normal use and wash) in about 4-6 months. Do my thighs rub together ? Sure, I think most people have legs that rub against each other as they walk.

I really do think the problem is the pants you're buying. Stuff really just isn't made like it used to be.

My advice ? buy multiple pairs of jeans and rotate them so that they last longer.

I am one who carries weight in my thighs. As others have said loosing weight it pretty much the only remedy. When I was wearing jeans size 16 and above I had the problem, Now that I fit in smaller sizes it is no longer a problem.

Squats and exercises to strengthen your quads will help as will losing the excess weight. I've always had that issue because I carry my weight in my thighs. Hate it!

I started getting holes in the inner thigh of my jeans when I hit about 300 lbs. My twin sister has always had them happen to her even when we were in the upper 170s (but she wears her jeans toooo tight.. so..).

My thighs have always rubbed together, even when I was not overweight. I started getting these thigh holes on jeans after like three months and thought I must just be getting that much fatter, but this doesn't happen to my pants ever. I realized it was the Old Navy Jeans I was buying - it happened to other jeans, too. I bought different jeans (with less of the stretchy material in them actually), my thighs still rub, but my jeans last longer than three months. So yes, it most certainly can be the jeans.

I've never had this problem, no matter how high the weight got, some idiot out there should have their ears pulled out for starting this nonsense, I wonder who it was? Beat them with a wooden spoon around the head and shoulders..............probably from People magazine.

If the area doesn't show you could patch it with some iron on patches.

Either turn inside out and patch from the inside or right side out and patch from the outside. Check to see if the patch will irritate your thighs.

You can get iron on patches at stores like JoAnnes.

It could help you not have to buy new jeans till you are ready to go down a size.

Yeah, the more you lose, the less they will rub - as the over all you get's smaller.

If you are ruining a lot of jeans - get jeans, shorts at a thrift store/goodwill - they are about $5 a pair, and 9/10 times they look perfect. It's also a great place to go for clothes when you are in-between sizes.

lol....use it as your motivation to lose weight emoticon

I think walking helps the thighs get smaller and will decrease the fabric on your jeans from rubbing together.

Okay, seriously. I know that thigh gap is unrealistic. But I am so TIRED of my jeans getting inner thigh holes. This is a new trend in my jeans. I wish it were a manufacturer's problem but they are different brands. Is this something I have to look forward to for life?

Please tell me someone knows a way to prevent this! emoticon
