What a lovely story! Its good to know there are still kind and helpful people out there! :-)

And this is a great reminder to us all that we must be kind and helpful at every opportunity, big or small.

I always greet the guards, press lift "door open" buttons for ppl to get in without d doors shutting on them, offer postmen water when they deliver my mail, I greet my neighbours, I smike at ppl as often as I can.. I offer to pick and drop ppl within d city when they don't have a car. Its not a lot but I believe in spreading good poaitive happy vibes with whomever I come across. I'm against making faces and cursing n shouting, esp while driving..

Some years ago, before cell phone days, fairly late at night, as I turned onto a road going home, one without much traffic at that time of night, I saw a man walking on the side of the road, going in the same direction as I was, carrying a gas can.

I knew for a fact, because I drove that road often, that the nearest OPEN gas station was quite a hike up the road. I didn't see a car or truck nearby that he might have come from, but if he knew the road himself he could have walked from the far end where a gas station was even further away.

I toyed with stopping, but I had a total tug of war going on in my head about the safety and prudence of stopping that late at night, as a solitary female to help a solitary male. I finally decided to NOT stop, and since I didn't have a gas can in my own car I couldn't just go get a little gas and bring it back to him. I always regretted not helping him though. I also still wonder if I would have stopped had it been a female.

Then, more recently, some months ago now, up on the Natchez Trace, a scenic federal highway that runs by where I live, a local man stopped, in broad daylight in the middle of the morning I believe, to help a woman who was signaling for help, apparently broken down (there are no commercial businesses allowed at all on the Trace). He stopped, but when he did, two male "pals" of hers appeared from "nowhere" and robbed him.

I volunteer in a spinal cord injury and MS rehabilitation program. I help individuals who are either quadri- or paraplegic exercise by setting them up on a body-weight supported treadmill, and then physically moving their legs so that they can "walk". The health benefits of this program are endless for these individuals and I am happy to be there each week. Sometimes I stay for an extra hour or so to help the person that I "walk" with his weights regimen.

I try and do as many things good as I can. Have worked rebuilding tornado victims homes or just things they cant do. Cut trees, paint, or pick up trash. Carry trash or pull out walls of flooded homes. Bought a elder ladys few groceries at christmas time. Rang the Salvation Army Bell at Christmas time. Packed food at Feed My Starving Children. Giving a person a ride to work until she gets her license back. The deeds can be as small as opening a door for someone. I love it when I see some child or teen that will hold it open for me as so many time they will walk though and let it close in my face. emoticon So if you have kids teach them young small things can make a big difference! Pay it forward because it somehow always comes back to you when you need it again!

Learn to change a flat and do just what he asked-help someone else in need.

I'm sure a lot of people that didn't stop wanted to, but couldn't. Maybe they didn't have that skill, or were afraid (remember those fear-mongering emails that circulated years ago about those situations being traps for car jackers and worse?) What if they figured you called and already had help on the way?

I volunteer my time leading my daughter's Scout troop, and I like to hold the door for people pushing a stroller. Especially if you have little ones walking with you it's sometimes hard as heck to get everyone in and out of the doorway without worrying about them getting hit by a heavy door!

I volunteer at the Red Cross..

Just this Saturday, there was 13" of flood water inside of several homes in our area in Louisiana. At 8:00 on Saturday morning, I and another volunteer, went from home to home offering Red Cross clean up kits; The kits included a mop, a broom, cleaning supplies, trash bags and gloves and I throw in a "I'm so sorry this has happened to your home, a hug and a smile" SUPPORT RED CROSS

Also may I suggest if you know of a needy teenager that you hire them for odd jobs around your home like mowing, babysitting, helping you garden etc.

You can't make a decision like that now - you need to wait for the opportunity to present itself - as did your own good samaritan. Keep your eyes open!

Every year on their birthdays, we have the kids do however many random acts of kindness as the number of years they are turning. I do it as well, but last year it took me several days to get all 46 random acts completed. LOL I have paid for strangers' gas at the pump, taken donuts to the local PD, bought breakfast for an unsuspecting couple at a local diner, given gas cards, a friend donated a free concealed carry class that he teaches, I took five $10 bills to the bank and had the teller add them to the next five customer's deposits. . . and the list goes on

I was at a Starbucks drive through getting myself a AM java for myself and a friend when the thought occurred to me to spend $20 paying it backwards to those in line...I did it!

I actually gave an extra $20 to the cashier and asked her to not let the person know that their drink order was covered until they came to her to pay at the drive through window. Her face lit up and she said, "I have heard of people doing such a thing, but I have never been a part of it, I am delighted to do this for you!"

I drove off knowing that I have blessed a few people that all I asked the cashier to tell them is to "pay it forward!"

This is a nice topic! "Paying it forward" is the way we should all live every day.
Not long ago I was in a pharmacy and the woman ahead of me in line had many coupons that she was successfully redeeming. But when she got to the end of her purchase, for some reason the last coupon wouldn't work and she was going to need to pay some small amount---60 cents or some such sum. She didn't have any cash with her so I offered to pay the sum so she wouldn't have to write a check for 60 cents. You would have thought I had offered her a kidney! She and the cashier were so amazed that I would do that for a stranger. But why was it so amazing? I've been blessed all my life and had many, many people help me. I appreciate all that has been done for me and try to help others, especially in the little ways that are small but count a lot.

I donate food to the animal shelter or cut out coupons for them to use to purchase items. I do it at least once a month, I'd love to do it more, but the money isn't always there to buy food. They always ask me if I want a receipt for a tax write off, but I tell them that I want to get a rescue pet (dog or cat) someday and I figure that someone would have bought them food, so it's my way of helping out.

My husband and I believe in 'Paying it forward' and we have raised our children with this concept also and hope they follow through..... "Train up a child" Proverbs 22;6. We also believe that one should not brag about the selfless things that they do for others because that removes the beauty of anonymous gracious gifting!!! God knows who gave it forward and that person who received the gift will also do it likewise..... It is a blessing twofold! Amen. It is a gift that keeps on giving.......

I have lived by the pay it forward motto for years. I think it is what God wants us to do. ( I don't mean to get religious. I'm certainly not overly religious. I don't go to church regularly.) However, I believe in the lessons I've learned and think this is a way to connect with others. It just has to be the right thing to do as I feel so fulfilled after random acts of kindness given and received.

Years ago we took in a homeless family for a few weeks (it turned into 6 months) and know how draining that can be on finances and sanity. Recently(around Christmas) a couple from our church took in 2 families at the same time. They are not well off, but couldn't see a young woman (a relative), her boyfriend and their toddler on the streets, or a disabled woman and her family(one of their children's best friends) kicked out of the house they were living in at Christmas. Only one of those taken in have left so far.The strain on their finances and vehicles has been tremendous so whenever we hear that they have a need we box up groceries and take to them, give them gas money or even just sit and listen to the wife vent(I know I needed someone to listen to me in the same situation). They are being such good examples for their 4 children (9 to 19).

We also regularly take a small bag or two of non-perishable foods with us to give to those who stand on the corner begging. We try to help others whenever we can.

I gave my daughter $50 to donate to her friend who is going to Russia for a special treatment for MS. He received over $50,000 in one week!

I helped Jim by carrying two cups of beverages to his room at the nursing home and got flagged down by a lady (I forgot her name now) who wanted me to plug in her phone and I told her I would help right after I assisted Jim.

She said the nurse unplugs her phone at night but the cord always ends up on the floor where she can't reach it. I was able to stretch my long arms under her bed and plug it in for her and told her to get someone to tape the cord to the phone so when it is unplugged the cord won't fall behind her bed. She thought that was a great idea.

Courage doesn't always roar:

Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow.""

Tomorrow is here.

I was at a Dunkin Donuts getting coffee and the customer in front of me was ordering 2 dozen donuts, 2 dozen bagels and one of those big coffee containers. When I looked down I noticed that she had two little girls with her that looked younger then 5. I kept thinking to myself how the heck is she going to carry all of that stuff and keep an eye on those two little girls. So, when she was all set I got out of line and told here that I would carry as much of the stuff that I could so that she could watch out for the two little girls. She was so thankful and the little girls said to her "see mommy people are still nice" that made me whole day. When i got back inside to order my coffee someone had already paid for it and the girl behind the counter said that the person wanted to tell me that every unselfish act of kindness deserve one in return.

I texted a friend who is going through a bad time and gave her some positive comments about what a great example she is to those around her.
