Thanks for the replies. I see that some misuderstood the question. I meant to ask what you feel is the best book to read about food / health / weight.

Even though I do use a library, see a dietician and own a scale, I still like to read!

I'd be more apt to tell you to use your local library. Health "revelation" are changing all the time! I would use the internet to do my research and then if there's an author that really stands out, then you could go down that road.

If the journey was easy I wouldn't appreciate the benefits I reap.

I also would suggest you don't buy ANY book, just adding to the author's coffers, they mostly say the same thing in a different way, or give different cutesy names to the same eating plans. Money might better be spent to see a real, live, dietitian, and meet with her, to establish your goals, figure out menus consisting of foods you actually like, not just what some wag recommends, or is the latest fad vegetable. A dietitian can see you in person, you can weigh on the scale there, and just take your time. The books just add to your confusion, after a few years, and the motivation has to come from inside of you, not from outside sources.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

I would highly recommend Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life by Dr. Russell Blaylock. Dr. Blaylock is a board-certified neurosurgeon and he combines many years of medical practice with study of thousands of research studies to create this book.

I would say to not buy a book at all. Instead, I'd recommend that you buy a food scale. You really don't need a book and most of them are filled with pseudoscience anyway. Spark People gives free guidelines so far as calories, fat, carbs, protein, etc. A food scale will help you ensure that you meet those guidelines.

I would say "Join your local library. They probably have a few different ones you can borrow." When you find one you like/seems legit, invest. :)

Maybe the 1972 version of Atkins, before it became distorted.
I like Paleo as well.

Imagine I could afford to buy only ONE book about health and/or weight loss in the next five years - which one would you tell me to get?
