Pizza and chocolate. Sometimes chips or other salty things. Stress and boredom is a huge trigger for myself as well. I try to give myself "me" time and relax, but when I am not go-go-going, I get immediately bored and want to eat.

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot.

I am currently having a problem with potatoes as triggers. If I make some kind of potatoes I like the taste of I end up eating all of them. It would be nice if I had a family to share things with because I wouldn't have a chance to eat all of them.

Evening eating. I find if I am restricting my intake too much during the day, I become so famished at night that I eat all the things. I'm trying to eat all three meals of the day and have snacks as well, so I'm not tempted to eat so much at night.

Sugar and getting overly hungry. I started this morning with a fairly strong sugar hit and will be working not to give into those cravings for the rest of the day. I also have a really hard time making sensible food choices when I wait too long to eat and am starving - I just want to eat the first thing that comes to hand.

depends on my mood.
When I want comfort....I want sweet & creamy....ice cream...{...so I try for yogurt...}
When I'm stress...I want crunchy...hard pretzels
{tough because I'm low carb...so peanuts in the shell...unshelling helps, go figure}

If I give in to my craving, I'm learning to go for a single serving package.....
I don't keep it in the house

I'm gonna go again because I realized it this morning - SEEING chocolate is really a trigger.

WOW! When you emphasized the word "do" it really made me think. Maybe that is why I quit my part time job that I really did not "need" just a few days ago. I was diagnosed with a chronic disease in June but continued working. Some improvement but not at the point where I should be with the medications. Maybe now I can concentrate on what "I" want to do since the stress level will be alleviated. I am looking forward to a healthier future.

I'm happy that I lost my appetite when I'm anxious or stress because if not I would eat constantly. It's more when I'm bored, so I try to keep myself busy.

Don't put me near a Toblerone or a toffee Symphony bar.

Not getting enough sleep the night before. It makes me crave carbs and fatty foods. If I eat enough of a mix of protein & fat throughout the day, I can usually do okay. But once most of my calories start coming from carbs, I just keep eating...

Does waking up count? Heh. Stress is a trigger for me. I also eat more when I'm bored. Sometimes, a commercial will come on and just trigger me to eat what was advertised.

Great topic!

1. Not eating regularly. On my long day at work I am on campus from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. If I don't pack a lunch or plan ahead I often find myself foraging/snacking/accepting food I hadn't planned for.

2. Anxiety. When I am doing a great deal of grading, I find myself wanting a snack to ease the stress of the work. I told my husband this morning, "I miss self-soothing with comfort food" to which he replied, "No, you don't!" (And he's right!!!).

3. Winding down on nights my husband is working late. Two nights a week I get home two hours before he does. I find myself wanting to relax with a snack before he gets home. This led to about a month of going over my calorie limit (and ultimately keeping me at the same weight for an extra two months).

4. Social anxiety. Particularly at large extended-family functions where I don't know that many people. I used to do the thing that was socially acceptable-- eat away! Now I have to find other things to do to ease that anxiety/boredom/etc.

I agree, it's night time snacking . Even if I eat my healthy snack is still want to continue snacking. This is a real difficult one for me ,however I am working on different ways to handle it.

night-time snacking!!! TV triggers my snacking button! Soooooo, no TV? Maybe a little less! No snacking? Have the healthy ones waiting for me in the refrigerator. I'm not always prepared for the snack attack. I will work on that one!

I can't think of any.

Maybe it's because I periodically and regularly allow myself "binge" days. I limit them, so my weight stays steady. I don't develop intense cravings because I know that if some food appeals to me, I can have it on my "binge" days - two a month.

Don't burn me at the stake :) We all have different methodologies, and my internist is well aware of mine. My blood work is great, I am 62, and he says he has no objections, especially since I've maintained an 80-lb. weight loss for several years.

My triggers are Friday and Saturday nights! The weekend usually means indulging in adult beverages. I have not found a way around this other than complete abstinence. Trying to limit to one or two doesn't seem to work for me. I've only been able to abstain a couple of times. I usually just go ahead and drink, but try to make better choices.....like very light beer and no mixers with sugary soda. If I do drink a mixed drink, I will mix it with club soda or soda water to minimize the calories, sodium, and sugar. I have found, though, that the older I get the less I drink. My other trigger is chips and dips....mmmmm!~

I am usually pretty good during the day until the few hours before going to bed, which is the worse time. A little nibble here and a little nibble there sure does add up. Trying to change that. One day at a time.

For me, I would say feeling too much pressure and feeling like everybody is expecting to succeed to the point where I am so afraid of failure that I self-sabotage. Usually I only get off track for one meal, though. It makes me feel yucky so I remember why I eat healthy in the first place... for me to feel good.

i must say my trigger is life it self i never get a moment to just focus on me;being a single mom never getting a break except when i get to hit the gym but thats only twice a week for an hour;then i am struggling to find five minutes to my self to focus on my healthy life style either i am at work with a consumer or on my other job at the high school ;and after a long day at work i am mommy for the rest of the day and night,it gets so bad i can't even eat or use the rest room in peace let alone watch on t.v. program in peace. but once my daughter is sleep thats when i want to eat because finally i have the opportunity to eat in peace.then it becomes so tasty i just want it to last.gotta get my emotions under control.
