thank you. i do alot of cardio but never thought about strength training for a flat stomach. thanks for the helpful info

Do you mean "6 pack" abs? Obliques? Or your lower abs - the deep muscle, the tranversus abdominis?

There are certain exercises that you can do to tone those muscles.

Keep staying within your calorie range to lose over all weight - and do cardio and some strength training to burn calories (that is what will reduce the overalll you) - and then you add some targeted toning exercises - depending on what you need to tone.

Pilates (and some yoga) is great for toning your core (transversus abdominis). There are a ton of free videos on youtube -search for core exercises: pilates, yoga.

Again, reduce the overall you, then tone where you need to.





The best exercise in the world is to bend down and help someone up.

What are you doing for strength training ? If you want to see abdominal definition you need to strength train along with eating a healthy diet. Losing weight is all about what you eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit.

Now, if you have an "apron", that fold of skin as a result of losing weight, there's not a whole lot you can do except consider cosmetic surgery. Strength training will only firm up the muscle. It won't get rid of excess skin. You might have to consider cosmetic surgery IF you find that once you've lost weight, you have some excess skin that doesn't pop back.

Remember, what really matters is what your body can do post weight loss. No one is perfect. However, if you want to see some definition, then you have to strength train and eat right.
