They usually don't bother me but there are those few that post a new selfies every day and I find them annoying.

I'm a single mom. So I take "selfies" of me and my kiddos all the time. Otherwise no one would be there to take our pictures. My kids enjoy our little photo shoots. And I enjoy it because we all have to be close together. Good snuggling time.

I'm not a fan of them but that is just because I don't like pictures of myself. If others want to take and post them, who am I to judge. Heck, I wish I had that confidence!

I don't understand the negativism about selfies either. If you don't like to see people's pictures don't look at them. But I do not like the ones that are "nearly naked" or ridiculously provocative.

The ones with young girls trying to make fish mouths or stupid faces are just stupid but they still don't bother me. In fact I get a kick out of thinking why somebody would want to post such pictures of themselves. Remember Geraldo's selfie? Oh, it was terrible! But I laughed anyway. An old man with no shirt on. It is just not a turn on to most of us women.

I have friends on facebook who have posted some really unflattering pictures including a man who posted a shirtless selfie that seemed even worse than Geraldo's even though he was not old like Geraldo.

I take selfies and I guess if that makes me narcissistic so be it (I don't agree that I'm narcissistic). I am mostly pleased with how I look and I will be 55 in just a few days. There were years when I was much heavier that I have no pictures of myself at all, with my kids when they were young, for example. I regret that. But I know how to take a selfie with little distortion and I don't need to do it in the bathroom with my phone and a mirror (in fact I have never done one of those). If you have a camera with a tripod (or just set it on a shelf, ledge or flat object at the right height) most cameras have a timer. Set it for ten seconds and practice a little until you get your position, etc. right and get a good selfie of yourself that way (if you want one). Of course if you want a picture of just you, it is not usually that hard to get somebody else to use the camera to take the picture. It is still a selfie if you post it, right?

I think it depends on how they are done. I do take some of myself. I take them to see how far I have come in getting more physically fit. I see nothing wrong with the ones I take of me in my workout clothes or swim suit. I just don't put them everywhere on the internet.

"Selfies" don't bother me. For shy people, the only way some of them get a picture is if they take it themselves.

As long as I am not bombarded with pictures. I don't want to be overloaded with any kind of pictures.

I think people taking "selfies" do so to document different things in their lives.

I love taking pictures of other people but normally hide from anyone with a camera. There are probably years where I didn't have even a single picture taken.

My profile picture is a "selfie." I had no plans of asking anyone else to take the picture but wanted to post something authentic of the progress I had made.

I have a young relative who takes lots of selfies. She likes to change her hair and makeup, trying new looks. She likes taking pictures of herself at different gatherings and monuments. With her, I think it's really cute. She's not conceited or bragging, just documenting her life.

There won't be lots of selfies of me, ever, but eventually I will probably want to change my profile picture. It may end up being another selfie.

My icon pic is a selfie :)

I take lots of them for a variety of reasons.

Some of them I share with my friends and family, some I only share with my boyfriend, and others I don't share with anyone.

The ones I don't share with anyone are used to document my weight loss journey and the changes in my body.

I don't see any problems with people taking them and posting them and sharing them :)

I think it depends on the nature of the picture and where it's shared. I do like that a lot of people are taking lots of pictures of themselves, it's nice to see people feeling confident in how they look and not shying away from the camera like I used to. I think there's a strong tie between taking pictures of yourself and having good self esteem. That being said, I don't think provocative pictures really belong on twitter or facebook as those are family sites, but it's important to remember that nudity or partial nudity isn't always sexual - it's a person's body the way that body was made.

I wish I could take a selfie as the saying goes, but I'm bad at it so I give up. But at the end of the day it's just a picture and people do what they want fully clothed, half naked nothing we can do about it. But yes I agree some people totally go overboard and the pics of their kid they should be more discreet but again people do what they want, nothing we can do about that. Your subject more than about selfies,it's about privacy, over exposure of children and ones ego :o)

You'd be hard pressed to find a pic of me online unless someone posted it without my permission, don't like the ideal of people saving and using pics for their own reason, even when they don't know you. emoticon emoticon

I wish I could figure out how to do them! Anytime I've taken one, it distorts my face so my nose looks too big and my eyes and chin are tiny. Evidently there's some curvature of the lens. I'd like to be able to take decent ones, because I do a lot of solo hiking and I'd love to get a picture of myself in certain spots, just to prove I got there!

I feel increasingly annoyed at the amount of pictures people are sharing of themselves.
It isn't like anyone even asked to see a picture of them but now we see one (or ten) every single day on the internet.
I feel that it is not healthy for young people to dwell so much on getting approval for their appearance and putting their image out there constantly.

I guess some people are self absorbed...but years from now a lot of these selfie people will have lots of pictures to remind themselves of how they were...whereas a lot of us are camera shy and have low self esteem about the way we look in pictures. Maybe... some of these selfie shots help people build a healthy body image of themselves. And even the 'half naked' pregnant women who chronicle their pregnant figures...wasn't Demi Moore on the Aug 91 cover of VANITY FAIR. no biggie

Creating self portraits is part of art history, going back to the dawn of time. The current word "selfies" seems to refer to folks taking their own picture, which the technology of cell phone cameras now makes possible.

Clever humans that we created a technology that could do this and that we amuse ourselves with doing it.

Why not?

I don't see a problem.

A selfie is a self portrait, it isn't always posted on twitter or some web place. Like any photo a selfie can be a well done piece of art and it can also be a piece garbage. To paint all selfies with the same brush is a rather narrow view.

The only problem I have with selfies is the people who post ONLY selfies and nothing else - rather narcissistic.

nearly naked? kids?! do you even know what a selfie is?

from what I've seen...... people who don't like selfies are usually ugly.

Not all selfies are provocative or showing off your nearly naked body. My husband always takes a selfie of us as we commence a vacation. We're on an airplane, not naked or being stupid.

I can see sharing cute pictures with you and your husband or a great view, but I just think it's to personal showing off yourself nearly naked or in a provocative pose and I just don't like people putting their kids out there especially on twitter as you never really know who is out there looking at these pics...
What do you think?
