I try to wing it first, especially since often the directions are so confusingly written. When I run into a problem I check the directions.

I just got a vacuum cleaner and after I figured out how to put it together. Then I picked up the instructions. It was pretty straight forward. I just had to use the instructions to find where I put the cleaning attachments

NO I have my husband read them, he is so mechanically inclined half the time he does not read them & puts the things together that needs to be, after all he builds computers on the side. There are times he insist that I do because he says maybe one day I will have to if something happens to him. I know I can follow directions as I never married until I was 34 and had to do everything on my own then. It is so much better now I do not really need to I know shame on me ,but oh well !!!

I always read the directions, and with everything I buy, I keep the instruction manual somewhere that I can find it easily. Now DH is a different story. He said instructions are for people who don't know how to do anything. He never read directions, but I am right there by his side, reading them to be sure he doesn't screw up. emoticon

I do, and just put together a mini trampoline after reading the "easy to assemble complete directions" Well the directions were missing a few instructions that I had to figure out myself. But most of the time the instructions make life easier.

Confession: Not only do I not read them with something I think will be simple, sometimes I get impatient when other people do. I watched my mom spend 20 minutes reading and preparing to change the ink cartridges in her new printer, and it was all I could do not to say, "Oh, get out of the way and let me do it!"

Of course, a lot of things don't come with instructions that maybe should. There's no instruction booklet for a smartphone or a new laptop computer, for example. I bought someone a speaker/charger unit for phones and MP3 players last month, and we spent 5 minutes hunting for the "on" switch!

I at least skim the instructions. Other than that, not really.

I love it when instructions come with a hair dryer or curling iron. I have been using these items for 30 years. Operations haven't changed.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

I spent years working a help desk asking people if they checked the manual. Because 99 out of 100 times, reading the manual or the directions would have answered their questions and saved them a call.

So, yes, I always read the directions or manual.

I do, my DH doesn't. Although lately, he's been at least skimming the instructions a bit first. I do it mainly because.... I've been "bit" a few times by assuming I know how something works or is supposed to go together, or whatever. And we all know what they say about the word "assume". Except it usually just ends up being me, that's the ass. lol

I used to make fun of some of the guys I've known who were notorious at 'WINGING IT' and not bothering to read the directions BEFORE using or doing something with a new item..
Now I find ...I do the same thing. I can't tell you how many times I've started using a new item that I could not get working, only to find it was because of some packing material (that was HIGHLIGHTED in the instructions guide).
