Never. I don't eat mindlessly and I don't eat junk food.
My idea of going way off the rails is something like eating an extra apple...or a day like today when I ate ate entirely healthy stuff but had 90-some carbs instead of the 50-70 that is a healthy range for me.
My doctor suggested a book called Savor. It is about mindful eating. I bought it and downloaded it to my Kindle Fire. I am reading it and trying to be more mindful every time I eat. It helps me also in slowing down when I am hungry.

I NEVER eat mindlessly and never have. I only very occasionally buy something that I wouldn't normally eat, but just because it is there doesn't mean I WILL eat it. It can sit there a couple months before I touch it. When eat something I wouldn't normally it is in the context of my 'planned' diet, as in I give myself permission to eat whatever I want, one day in 2 weeks. It doesn't mean that I WILL eat like that, but I know that it is there if I want to. It takes a lot of pressure off because you haven't got that little 'thing' sitting on your shoulder nagging at you.
I think that those who 'mindlessly eat' need to learn some other way to cope with that 'boredom' etc.
I, too, cannot have junk food in my house. I will go to town, easily. I honestly do not even have that much 'easy to grab snack food' because even then I can binge on triscuits, etc, no problem. If I want a snack in between meals, I have to prepare something..the effort you need to put forth to have a snack helps. It's far too easy to grab a box of crackers and hummus and just sit down and oops, devour half of it. I definitely like the suggestion to put something into a bowl so you can actually see your serving size, etc. The only possible thing I could eat mindlessly and (easily) lose track of is almonds/nuts. If I'm really actually hungry I'll prepare something - otherwise, drink water and occupy yourself elsewhere!
Never.....I only eat when I am hungry during non training days and then when I am in training, I eat every two hours. I agree with BUNNYKICKS with regard to not eating directly from the bag....put it in a bowl and you will be less likely to keep eating after that bowl is finished....make it a small bowl.
Not that I never eat "junk foods" or "too much" of something. I do, sometimes. But I make sure I recognize what I'm doing, and don't try to fool myself into not-noticing-what-i'm-consuming. Like, i snarfed back 3 ounces of chocolate chips yesterday. Not the best choice. But... even as that third handful came out of the bag, it went into the bowl on the scale to be weighed and tracked. No hand-to-mouth straight from the bag. I know what I eat, for better or worse.

It is very easy to eat junk food instead of eating healthy foods. I find myself reaching for the "comfort foods" and mindlessly eating. I need to learn to reach for fruits or veggies instead of chips, ice cream, candy or other unhealthy foods.
