I started with 200 plus pounds to lose. Now I only have 100 plus pounds to lose. I only set my immediate goals at 15 or 25 pounds; not so daunting. I give myself little rewards when I reach these smaller goals, nothing big, a new haircut or manicure maybe a new swimsuit because swimming is my favorite cardio workout. I need SparkPeople to keep me on track and to get me back on track when I stray. I think the operative word here is track.
As great as SparkPeople is for tracking it is the support of the community and the coaches that make it extraordinary. Don't think of it as a crutch but rather a tool. People celebrate your success with you and are there to console and inspire you when things are not going great. Stick with it. It's worth it to feel and look great! emoticon emoticon

emoticon If you focus on eating healthy and saying no to the wrong foods, weight loss will follow. Maybe not at the pace you want it to, but time is going to pass anyways, losing a little each month adds up over time. Glad your back to work on this with us, emoticon

I'll be taking my nieces and nephew to Disneyworld in June -- and am using that trip as inspiration to lose a few more pounds before then.

Good luck to us all!

Jackie

Go back to basics as you did when you lost the weight the first time. Journal what you eat, drink your water and walk 10,000 steps a day.

Welcome back!

I've used going to Disneyland as a good reason to lose weight several times, to be able to do all that walking, and actually FIT into the rides, so it helps to have a goal like that, but it took me longer than just a few months, took most of a year...........exercise every day, even on days when you don't eat the way you think you should, keep up with the exercise, it will help your mindset a lot. One day at a time............

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Hi, Jackie !

Welcome to Spark People !!!

I give all new members one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". if the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was
drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

While a safe weekly weight loss would be 1-2 pounds per week, there will be weeks you don't lose. There will even be weeks you gain ! And that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. The weight doesn't magically drop off the minute we decide we need to lose. It really could take 6-8 WEEKS of healthy eating and regular exercise before a person sees a change in the scale. And that too is perfectly normal.

By summer, in theory, you could lose 20-40 pounds. this assumes a 1-2 pound loss per week. Don't get me wrong, the contestants on the Biggest Loser have lost 100+ pounds in a six month period. BUT, keep in mind, those people didn't have jobs or families to take care of. They could spend 4-6 hours a day in the gym. They spent their day trying to lose weight. The rest of us don't have that luxury.

What is your goal for your Disney trip ? How much do you want to lose ? Depending on when you're going, a realistic goal would be 25-50 in 5-6 months.

Slow and easy really does win this race.

Good luck in reaching your goal.

I don't know what your time frame is for the Disney trip, how many months away until you go?

The best thing to do is to track your food every day - it's the one way you know, without a doubt, whether or not you are on the right track....every single day.

The best exercise in the world is to bend down and help someone up.
