I personally love the occasional treat from Starbuck's. But I always order skim milk if I get a Latte or Caramel Macchiato. A tall skim Caramel Macchiato has 140 calories and 8 grams or protein. A venti skim Cappuccino has a mere 110 calories and 10 grams of protein.
I never get the oversized dessert drinks like Frappuccinos or Caribou's Wild Drinks. Just not worth it and too sweet; I like my coffee to taste of coffee. If I want dessert, I will order a nice piece of something or indulge in ice cream.
Honestly, any of it can work into a healthy life style. You just need to plan.

I actually learned about calories, etc. in high school in the 70s so whenever I was serious about losing weight I never drank soda with sugar or any other sugary drinks. I first joined Weight Watchers in the 80s and tried other plans that were mostly calorie based so I feel I was ahead in this game, knowledge-wise. Drinks were not really my downfall, I loved rich sweets though and did eat them, often telling myself I'd get on track ''tomorrow." My problem was using food to cope but I did not lack the knowledge of the calories in most drinks and foods.
Why is it "their" responsibility Chrissie? These things are easy to measure and look up if you want to know the truth. Pretty much every coffee shop everywhere sells drinks in 12 oz., 16 oz. and 20 oz. sizes--it should be fairly obvious how large those are.
I used to drink a fair number of mochas--not ever more than one a day, but still. Now I make cafe con leche with a touch of Splenda. Generally I use soy milk. One thing that helps me is to pre-measure the cup of soy milk that I let myself consume each day. I put it in a salad dressing jar with oz measurements on the side. This keeps me from fudging as I add tiny bits of milk to my coffee all day.
They sure don't make it easier for us watching our calorie intake, their servings sizes are mind boggling. It just means that you have to weight and measure everything because you could be over estimating or underestimating your calorie intake.
ditto on the muffins and the tracking. I have seen the light...and it was an oncoming train wreck
Even supposedly healthy stuff...like fruit...can add up if you aren't careful. I've learned to drink my coffee/tea without sugar When I want cappuccino, I make stronger coffee, then nuke some 1% milk ahead of time and froth is with my blender wand, then add it to coffee. Makes you feel like you aren't missing anything. And I've tried to replace most of my starch carbs with veggies or beans....more satisfying and less cravings in the long run...plus better nutrition

The "STICKER SHOCK" associated with so many foods is mind boggling!
I used to eat a large bowl of granola cereal for breakfast. Granola is a healthy choice, right? Not when a cereal bowlful holds 6 servings at 300 calories a serving!!! Now granola is a garnish on yogurt if I'm looking for crunch. And I add it, not the company.
I like FIg Newtons. But I know I don't need an entire package at home. So I was going to buy an individual serving at the cafeteria. I read the label. Serving size 2 bars, 100 calories per serving. Like anyone is going to eat 1 bar!
Serving sizes and calories per serving are so important to monitor.

When I decided I wanted to lose weight and be healthier, I knew that I was eating too much and needed to eat less. Little did I know that some of the items I routinely ate contained an insane amount of calories.
Take a mid sized muffin. I used to eat muffins and sliced of coffee crumb cake all the time for a snack. Well, who knew that one medium muffin could contain 400-500+ calories ! Some days, I would eat a jumbo muffin for a mid morning snack. A jumbo muffin could have 800-1,000 calories.
Oh and speaking of eating too much, do you like Cinnabons ? I know I did. One of those large beasts has 1,900 calories. Yup, I ate those too.
There were many other eye opening moments.
I have a co-worker who is a regular Coke addict. He will routinely drink 1-2 liters a day. I have told him that if he were to stop drinking Coke and make no other change to his diet, he'd still lose at least 1-2 pounds per week just from eliminating the Coke.
Many members will tell you how they gave up their Starbucks coffee drinks because one of those mocha drinks could have 400+ calories. Drink 1-2 per day and you see how quickly the calories add up.
If you would still like a fizzy fix, try switching to sparkling water or seltzer waters. They are very tasty with zero calories. read the label. some do have artificial sweeteners. However, there are many brands that don't.

I tracked my coffee/cappuccinos and it totaled 760 calories and 130 carbs. That is crazy! My desire for those have just shrank dramatically. It seems the liquid part of my diet is worse than the food part. So, now I know something else to help me along my journey.
