I'm retired now, but my degree was in Secondary Education/English. First job out of college was using a stopwatch to time people at their jobs in an insurance company…. not a match I would say. I never taught - stayed in Corporate America in different jobs all my career and happy with that.

I received an A.A. in Liberal Arts first. I decided to do a B.S./M.S.A. in Accounting and Finance so yeah, my degrees and career match. I also have a Certification in Medical Terminology, Health Unit Coordination and Medical Billing!

All of these degrees are required for what I do in my careers! I think these days if you are going to University its a wise idea to get a degree in what you want to do unless its closely related. Just my opinion though~

Yes, all my degrees are in Education. I started out as a teacher but now I have a Ph.D. in Education: Technology Management and I am an online professor. My oldest daughter has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and she is a researcher/programmer at Microsoft.

My second DD is majoring in Asian Cultures, currently working on her Ph.D. in that. Many people ask what she will do with that. I think she hopes to teach Japanese at an American University but it is very possible her degree will open doors to something she has not considered yet.

Yes. I was an English major and have an advanced degree in writing. I teach writing in a university.

KJ - As another poster said, psychology is a very popular major; a psychology degree is really a "general" degree in that it's not a major that really has "jobs in its fields" fresh out of undergrad unlike, say, civil engineering. I've had students with a psych major move on to jobs in a number of different areas. It also really matters what direction she moves in and what type of experience she gets in school - jobs, internships, etc. If she wants to *do* something in psychology, she'll have to go on to graduate school for specialized training.

I have a professional degree and work in my field. However, I don't plan to forever.

I work at a major (population-wise) university, and psychology is one of the biggest majors, if not the most populated.

I was an English major in college and was clueless about what to do after that. One of my friends said that everyone she knew who graduated with an English degree became an insurance salesperson, and that scared me so much! I knew sales wasn't in my future. :)

Four years after college where I worked at non-profits, I went to grad school for public health. I now work in my field. I love it.

Right now, I have the job my brother studied for! He has a degree in Parks Management/ Outdoor Education, and I'm a National Park Ranger. Neither one of us ever saw that coming! I never had the least interest in camping or hiking or anything like that when we were growing up.

The specific posting I have does relate somewhat to my education, though; I wouldn't have gotten this job without certain skills from my degrees. Now my Ranger term is up and I'm moving to a job with a park partner agency that publishes and sells educational materials, and that's indirectly related to my graduate degrees.

I think it's interesting that there are so many "yes" answers. I know an awful lot of people who are in jobs with no relation whatsoever to their degrees, and I usually tell college students not to worry about their major because they'll probably end up in a completely different field anyway.

Finally! I have an undergrad degree in political science and history - which got me a job as a TA so I can put myself through a professional degree. I definitely will have a job when I graduate that is related to my current course of study, even if not related to my previous.

Degree in Communications... uhm.

It has been helpful, no doubt, in getting past that "university degree or equivalent" requirement on certain job postings. And the skills acquired while completing 4 years of coursework have certainly been transferable to almost any job I've ever done. But nothing I ever specifically learned course-content-wise, has been directly relevant, no.

I am a linguist/language educator and my graduate degrees are in Applied Linguistics. So yes, they match.

My undergraduate degrees are in International Studies (Latin America, Econ. Dev.), Spanish and Business Administration. So while they don't "match" exactly, they make sense, at least to me!

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba
