As a gift, I'd take the Rice Krispie Treats. I love them, but they're much more of a hassle/mess to make myself than chocolate chip cookies.

Warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies!

But my grandmother used to make krispy treats from all kinds of cereal. We had them with Cheerios, granola, fruity pebbles (yuck and double yuck) cocoa puffs (surprisingly good) and just about every other cereal we ever ate.

For me, neither. I despise Rice Krispy treats, although I'm not sure why. I'm also not a fan of chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate gives me migraines, and I don't really like the flavor of most chocolate chip cookies anyway.

Neither, unless they were gluten free, which is unlikely from a homemade source.

You didn't specify whether it had to be "diet" or just tasty!!! For tasty, it would be chocolate chip, but for diet, Krispies, made with cocoa powder so it has a chocolate taste, at least.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

I love an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie but I add some dried cranberries. They add some anti-oxidants. I also use wheat flour for a little more substance.

We did not eat too many Rice Krispy treats as kids, so for me they are still a treat. To up the excitement you can add other cereals for color and flavor. For the last winter olympics I added Fruit Loops and they looked like the Olympic rings. You can add M & M's or nuts. My sister uses the flavored marshmallows to add some flavor. The options are endless.

It's marshmallows, butter and krispie cereal. I did like these as a kid... and still would eat one on occassion, but.......... if eating "homemade goodies" i would take the oatmeal-chip cookie all the way.

It is hard to think of something like a rice krispy treat as homemade--you are taking a cereal that is already incredibly processed and processing it some more. Don't those also have marshmallows and corn-syrup? Also ridiculously processed...

Even pre-diet, I would not have touched a rice krispy treat with a ten-foot pole.

I like the oatmeal cookie idea, if you must make cookies.

I'm not much into chocolate (I know: heresy!), so anything chocolate is going to be waaaaay down my list. I also am off any sorts of grains, so far as I'm able.

OTOH! I do love (used to love) peanut butter cookies. I try to avoid too much peanut butter, but you can make other nut butter cookies and they're delicious! I've used almond butter, cashew butter (I think both are available in groceries now), sunflower butter... or you could make your own very simply with a little food processor and any kind of nuts you like.

For taste? oh sure.... I love Rice Krispy™ treats! But as I already noted...

Another thing I love is cheesecake, and it's very simple to make, too. I make mine in little mini-muffin tins, and can freeze some so I don't have to do it very often but still have indulgent little nibbles in my freezer. You can flavor them all sorts of ways!

As a gift, I would say the cookies.
I like to eat both but I can make rice krispies treats myself very easily so they really don't seem as special as homemade cookies.

When I eat a KASHI brand Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie..1 cookie satisfies me.
