Check out the Spark Teams and the Spark Challenges. A post like this one, tacked onto an older one, can get lost, but there are plenty of teams that will help you with accountability. Browse the teams, and when you see one that looks good, go to its page and see how activ it is. If there haven't been any recent discussions, keep looking for other teams.
Try alternating walking with other activities instead of doing it every day. I'm walking 3 days a week and doing different things on the other days. Sparkpeople has a bunch of videos you could try out. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/videos.asp
I watch a dvd or netflix when walking on the treadmill... often something with subtitles. Sometimes I will walk longer because the show/movie is interesting and I'm not looking at the time. Music isn't helpful to me when I am on the treadmill.
I have been on this website for years, but have never followed through. I am such a hard-working, non-procrastinating person but when it comes to taking care of myself I always seem to drop the ball. I live alone, work alone and really have no one around me to help hold myself accountable. I made messaging on here one of my daily goals. I'm counting on you guys to be my support system. I have about 15-20 lbs. I'd like to lose. I just don't feel good about myself and how I feel in my clothes (too tight!) and I'm not going to buy BIGGER ones!! I hope I don't let you all (and myself) down again by dropping out of sight. I want to eat better, I want to feel better. I want to be healthier, I want to have more energy, I want to feel good about myself. I am 52 years old and want the next 52 years to be healthier than the first :)

If you can stand it, bundling up and walking outside in cold weather burns more calories than in warmer weather or inside. As others have said, 15 mins in the morning and 15 mins in the afternoon would be just as effective as 30 minutes at once, and it's somehow much easier to motivate yourself if it's just 15 minutes.
I don't know what your fitness level is, but if you're pretty much of a beginner, another option is to get a sturdy step like an aerobics step or just a little plastic stepstool, and just step up and down, on and off of it. That was my first workout; I made it a rule that if I was going to watch television, I had to do it while stepping. I also walked with a friend three nights a week and for a longer walk on Sundays. Since there were two of us, when one didn't really feel like doing it, we did it anyway. It's easier to force yourself to go than to pick up the phone and disappoint your friend. You might look for a "gym buddy" and share rides to the gym (or classes, or whatever is available where you live) until the weather is good enough to walk, or instead of walking. If you're just sharing rides, then the other person doesn't have to be at a similar level of fitness.
Another thing that works for me is books on tape or podcasts. I'll find something I really like, and make it a rule that I can only listen to that particular thing while I'm exercising. (The time when this worked best was when there was a bookstore 3 miles from my house that rented them really cheap but for a short period of time. I would time my walks so that I would finish one on the walk to the bookstore and start the next one on the walk home. You could only keep them a week, and most of the recordings were between 6 and 10 hours, so I was forced to walk 6-10 hours a week if I wanted to hear the whole book.) Your public library probably has a ton of books on tape, and there are hundreds of fun, free podcasts.
Exercise has to be at least a little bit fun or you won't do it. You know yourself and your own personality better than anyone else does, so think about whether entertainment, companionship, or self-rewards/self-competition will make it fun for you.

FitnessFoodie, I'm originally from Oklahoma and have never gotten rid of my y'all. :). Well friends, I haven't walked since Monday morning. I was going to start getting up at 4:30 am to do my walk. I normally get up at 5:15. I just couldn't do it. This is so hard getting into a routine! I would love to walk outside but we're expecting another foot of snow tomorrow!

When I was able to take my long walks, I was outside. I love nature. Looking at all of the beauty outside is wonderful.
If you are on a treadmill, watch nature channels. If you have one of those on your cable. When I used to walk outside, I sang. Luckily, no one was around to hear. I also like the idea of dancing. This is a very good way of changing things up a bit. Also, reward yourself. (Not with food).

If music and videos don't help much, you can try interval training as FITNESSFOODIE suggested. Pick up the pace for a bit then recover. That kind of workout makes me feel really good and it's a great way to increase your fitness.
For on the treadmill I TiVo movies or TV shows that I want to see but missed for whatever reason. Every time there is a commercial I up the pace or the incline until I'm 75% through, then start bringing it back down. I usually have to work Tuesday nights, so I just finished the Biggest Loser season.

I walk outdoors if the weather permits, usually with my MP3 player. Treadmills can be boring unless you listen to music or watch TV while you're working out. My favorite songs get me revved up. That is what works for me.

I dance to music indoors, my personal favorite music, not those catchy workout songs, or go outside and walk without music or yakking in your ear, see the world, and feel it, the time will pass quicker. If not, try weights indoors, or Jack LaLanne indoor exercises. This is one reason people quit and than restart, over and over again.
Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.
It sounds like you are walking indoors? If that's the case, try walking outdoors!
Are you using a treadmill? If walking on the treadmill is boring, try either speeding up your pace, or if your treadmill allows it, alternating walking with jogging. Or, try concentrating on improving your form while walking. Make sure your posture is correct, your abs are contracted, your arms are moving (not propped on the treadmill), and that you are breathing regularly. Actually concentrating on what you're doing instead of distracting yourself might prove more interesting and effective.
Alternatively, do something else. I find I have to change the type and style of exercise that I do pretty frequently to stay interested.

if walking bores you...do as much as you can take and then come in and dance. Turn on the music and work the arms and legs. Use a couple of light weight dumbbells and watch your heart rate zoom. Improvise.
We all have different attitudes towards working out so what works for me might not work for others but I never get "bored" working out, I usually have heavy metal playing with a YouTube video of fitness people working out....IDK, it seems to work for me.

I'd ditch the music and videos and concentrate on your walking. Be alone with your thoughts, think big dreams be grandiose! I like to play a game, walk as fast as I can between telephone poles then normal between the next group. Then I increase it to fast between three poles and slow between 2 poles. Who knows you might be jogging before you know it.

Walking is great, and I understand when you become bored your motivation to keep walking kinda goes away. If I don't have anything to 'entertain me' while i'm walking I try to walk more during the rest of my day to 'make up' for my short morning walk. Try taking the stairs more, or walk outside during the rest of the day. Maybe walking 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes a night might be what your body needs and likes, instead of doing it all in one walk.

Is there a reason you decided on walking? The type of exercise program you will stick with long term is one you enjoy. SP has several free videos and strength ideas in their fitness area. Check out a DVD from your library. Can you try a fitness class at your local gym? Many offer drop in rates that are reasonable.
if there are cars near you could you play license plate bingo? could you be on the lookout for a particular plant or tree? what about looking for home ideas [how to remodel, how to organize your yard or patio] as you go? you could also try walking in the hour during your favorite television program if the outdoors isn't stimulating enough for you.

I'm trying to dedicate 30 minutes to walking each morning. Just started on the program this past Saturday. It appears I'm going to have to work up to that as 20 minutes seems to be tall I can do. I think what it is, is boredom. I'm listening to my workout music with headphones and watching a video at the same time. Does anyone out there have some advice how to keep the boredom away?
