Yes, I think she lost way too much weight. I think she is even saying that now.

We have the Biggest Loser here in Australia as well, the trainers have taken on the task of training and reducing the weight of a whole town. The town of Ararat was deamed the fattest town in Australia when they did the statistical report, they have to lose a massive 26,000kg, so far they have lost over 20,000 it is a massive challenge and so much fun to watch.

She says she has gained 15 pounds: celebrity.yahoo.com/news/biggest-loser-rac

, which is good, cause she actually reminded me of Karen Carpenter.

I will be interested to see her weight in a year.

Edited to add: That's 15 pounds in one month!!!

105 lbs at 5'4" is underweight and her arms were practically hollow. I hope she does put on a few lbs of muscle and level out now that the competition is over. To a previous poster, I am not jealous of Rachel and I wish her the best. Her aging face at 23 says it all if her body doesn't. The Biggest Loser format needs to change and in a way that will discourage people from going underweight. I was shocked when I saw her and thought other people might be too which is why I started the post. Hopefully show producers will pay attention and recognize the dangers of the show in it's current format. Good luck to everyone that commented on this thread! We're all here for the common goal of being/getting healthy!

Just keep going...

No one should be judging her. If you were seeing her for the first time today on the street and never knew she had been so overweight, would you still think she looks terrible?

The winner of the show is whoever loses the highest percentage of body weight, they couldn't legally not giver her the money. I'm sure they were contractually obligated to "let" her win considering she rightfully did what the contest set out to accomplish. It is whoever loses the most weight, not whoever becomes the healthiest or makes the biggest change for the better in their lifestyle and sticks with it longterm. And whoever loses weight the fastest. It is really not about healthy weight loss, that is why I stopped watching years ago. I really like Bob and Jillian, wish they had a better show in a different format (not 2 hours long) Hopefully they will address the concerns people had in the next season and change the rules?

Wow just watched the finale and 24 year old Rachel looks like she is 40 years old!

Being critical isn't automatically jealousy. I'm actually quite concerned for her. I don't know many competitive swimmers with hardly any muscle mass.

No matter what weight she is, I hope she can find happiness and peace within.

ETA: She said she walks on a treadmill for 8 hours a day and participates in 3-4 classes at the local gym daily while eating 1600 calories a day!

Just the walking alone would burn between 1800-2100 calories.

I'm a few episodes behind but I couldn't resist looking at the pictures because of all the hullabaloo. I was rooting for Rachel but she took it too far. I'm 5'4" and 105 is far too thin. I was 110 at my lowest weight when I was 19, extremely active and living on coffee, a chocolate bar and a single serve mini pizza everyday.

It really goes to show healthy and skinny are two totally different things.

I think is did lose to much too fast. She looked unhealthy. But I think she did it to win the money and knew the men would be hard to beat. I hope she will balance it out after the show.
A couple season ago I can't remember the girls name was that skinny too and saw her later and she had filled out and looked great. Money is a great motivator.

She grew up with criticism about her being overweight all her life and now she gets criticism from doing what so many people have not been able to do. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think her body will find a natural balance once she starts exercising regularly (not for 5 hours every day) and continuing to eat healthy.

Please stop body shaming.

I am happy she won, she did the work...and lost the biggest percentage. I feel it is up to each individual, on how much they loose, and if she feels good mentally and physically and is fit does it really matter what the scale says? just a number... Did you she how happy she was the whole show she couldn't quit smiling.
She gained the knowledge from the ranch and the trainers she used the information to her full advantage.

I don't think she was "too thin" or lost "too much".
Close, but not over.

But, she did lost too fast. Or more accurately, MAY have lost too fast.

I think most of us would agree, as we're all Sparkers, that lifestyle change is the only successful, organic, method of achieving weight loss. Success, being judged by the ability to continue/maintain that lifestyle indefinitely.

She will now have to learn that lifestyle "cold turkey" if she wants to maintain a healthy weight, otherwise she's going to yo-yo., Losing 6 lbs./week average over 7 months....down to 105? That's absolutely crazy fast. The only way to accomplish that is through a lifestyle that I would think would be EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to maintain for any given time beyond say....6 months.

Her journey has just begun. For the rest of us, I think it's a lot easier to explore the journey....adjust lifestyle as we go on our journey....tweak it...and settle into it WHILE ACHIEVING RESULTS and wind up with a lifestyle after 6, 12, 18 or 20 months that is satisfying enough for us to pursue the rest of our lives.

Good luck to her. I'm a dude. She looks fantastic, although...as someone noted...she doesn't look 24. Then again, she's not unattractive in her before picture. In my honest "guy thoughts (of which we won't get into detail)", she'd be most attractive somewhere in between.

I don't watch BL. I've seen bits & pieces here & there, and I don't care for the whole format/ message/ way of doing things. The Rachel thing is all over the internet though, and I've looked at/ read about it.

I think she did it to win the money-- if she's really competitive, she probably sized up her competition and figured out that none of them would go so far as "Underweight" on the BMI, or xx percentage of weight lost, or whatever..... easy enough to do-- I'm sure there were a lot of conversations among themselves at the ranch, over how much they'd like to eventually have lost. And so that's what she aimed for-- guesstimate what the competition will do, and just do a little bit more. And then a teeny bit beyond that, just to be sure she'd win. And she did.

It's the way the show's set up. Biggest Loser gets the money. The focus is not on overall health and fitness, it's bottom line numbers. So..... she got what she worked for. Whether she maintains it after the competitive type atmosphere is over, the endorsements are over, when no one is really looking any more.... well who knows.

I read that she was 5'4" of which is only an inch taller then I am. I know at 5'3" 105 pounds makes me look like skin and bone...that's why I only want to get down to 112. At the base of 5 pounds per inch...that would make a decent weight for her should be 117 to 120.

Sad thing is people criticize me for wanting to get down to 112. I've even had people criticize me for getting down into the 130's.

Truthfully....if she did lose it JUST for the money...that is vanity and self-serving. It will not take unless she is committed to staying healthy. I thought she looked and unhealthy. Gaunt face and shallow arms. NOT healthy. She may end up using her loot to restore her health. I can't remember what the looks were. I just know that MINE was shock.

She is 5 5 and a healthy weight for a woman of that height is 114 to 123 that's what one of the doctors was saying. I also looked it up and it was right.
I thought she looked very thin, she didn't seem to have any muscle it was all skin and bones, but what got me is when it showed Jillians reaction to her coming out and Bob's now that spoke volumes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure she went down so low to ensure she'd win the money, hopefully she'll find a weight that her body will be comfortable at.....
I don't think that people here are really judging they are giving their observation of what they saw, she did look under weight and she is. I mean go back and watch Jillians reaction when she came out her jaw drops

Starting to like the new me!

I did think she looked frail, but was surprised by others on the show earlier for the same reason.

Tumi was very skinny, unrecognizable, and Bobby was very skinny too, 170 pounds for a tall grown man seems very low.

I thought she looked shockingly thin and frail. My hope is that she did this for the money; she is a very competitive person, as evidenced by all the challenges she won, and just really wanted to win this final showdown. Money talks.

Hopefully, she will moderate the severity of her diet now and gain ten pounds or so, now that she has won. I was hoping she'd win, but now I wish one of the guys, who looked thin but healthy, had won, since I am afraid this may be a bad example to some. Tumi looked awfully skinny too.

I also thought her face was very drawn and wrinkled, and made her look older. I think perhaps it is time for the show to set some kind of guidelines as to just how low contestants can go, although I can see that might be difficult to figure out, since people's body types are so different.

I have this recorded so I have not watched it yet. Many people are saying that she lost too much weight and looked anorexic. Although she won maybe healthwise and being a role model she may not have been the biggest loser after all.

I watched the recorded show this morning. I was totally shocked at Rachel's appearance. I thought she looked much healthier during the triathlon. She look like she is unhealthy. My jaw dropped the moment she came in view. I feel bad for her. Tumi weight was on the low side as well. I'm sure the show will be addressing what America viewers had seen during the finale.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!

I am not a fan of the Biggest Loser, nor do I think that their methodology is very healthy.

However, I caught the episode before the finale where they were doing a triathlon. I thought that she looked strong and healthy at that point. You have to have good muscle tone to swim and run as well as she did.

Anyone with overeating issues has an "eating disorder", it's not just the bulimics and anorexics. Now, this show MUST show us every contestant that has ever been on that show, show us how they look now, because, it's the long haul over their life span that shows whether they have trained themselves to watch what they eat forever and ever...........that is the real truth, not losing tons of weight in a certain amount of time. Many of us have done that before.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Maybe this game show needs to be like that other one where you have to get closest without going under. What was that, "The Price is Right?"

And it was her job. When you think about it, how is what she did any different from when Tom Hanks lost weight for "Castaway" or when Renee Zellweiger gained weight for "Bridget Jones?" How is it different from coal miners or brake manufacturing workers who go to work even though they know it's damaging their lungs? They risked their health for their careers. For 9 months of extremely hard work with a little bit of danger, she's getting paid what the average American makes in 10 years, plus she'll have endorsement contracts, residuals, and a leg up on moving from voice-over work to on-screen roles that pay much better. Almost all of us experience some risk or danger at work, and she's getting paid a lot more than most of us for the risk she took.

I was watching the show in the beginning but then dropped off. Missed the finale but did see her picture online......My opinion is her arms look very think but overall she looks good. But after reading about the faces of Jillian and Bob...were they surprised that she was so thin? Or surprised that she'd lost so much weight from the beginning? I'm hoping she didn't starve herself to win after leaving the ranch for 6 months.

She was of course very thin and this isn't the first time a winner got very low. I would say she did it to win. I don't see that as unhealthy. Many times in the past the winner gets to a low weight and then comes up to a more healthy weight after it is over.

I would guess the more direct danger is that she might put too much back on after that. I have seen many comments on the web today about how it presents a bad image and it shows she is in danger of developing an eating disorder. I think while that is true past experience of BL winners is that it is unlikely. She will probably do promotional work for them and her weight will be watched carefully by the show producers and others. I think she will be just fine in the end.

Well, technically, she went from 260 to about 150 in the 14 weeks on the ranch. After the last week on the ranch, there are about 6 months until the finale. She was about a size 6 when she last weighed in on the ranch.

I got curious and took a look at her picture (don't watch the show). She looks a little skinny in the arms but when you consider she went from 260 to 105 in 13 weeks, that is more extreme than her current weight in my opinion. I doubt it is healthy to lose that much weight that quickly.

I don't think she is dangerously thin and probably if she had not been obese, her skin tone at this weight would look better and she would not look so "skin and bones." I have been 108 before at 5'3 1/2" inches and some people seemed to worry I was anorexic (but my XH told me I still had a fat pod gut...whatever). It is good she is only 24 because if she did this when considerably older, her skin would not have conformed as well to her new proportions. Sometimes that excess skin can make one look "skin and bones" more so than if the skin is tighter. I do hope for her sake she learned what it takes to maintain a healthy weight. Going back to real life after a show like that and a such an extreme fast weight loss, will be quite an adjustment in itself.

We are always so quick to Judge! I am not saying I was not shocked. One of my goals this year is teaching myself to be less judgmental.

I've only seen pictures, news stories, blogs and message board posts about this lol, so I don't have an informed opinion to offer.

Her BMI according to what she is purported to have "said" in a news story I read is 119 according to her medical provider. That is a low BMI but I'm not sure if it falls in the healthy normal range.

I've also been reading a bunch of statements by folks online that her stats are 5'4" and 105 pounds. That is in the underweight BMI category.

I am not her or her doctor so just because she looks to viewers to be "too thin," "emaciated" or whatever, it doesn't mean she is unhealthy.

The BMI is notoriously an unreliable standard when it comes to athletic bodies, but on average, it's an okay guide as to a sensible weight range for a wide range of folks.

That's why I personally think in the future (if Biggest Loser survives this latest flurry of criticism and makes more shows), there should be a rule written into the contestants' contracts that no one below a healthy BMI can be the winner.

Maybe there IS a rule and if so this contestant's win would be subject to whether she is lower than a healthy BMI and I have no idea but bet the show's producers are looking at that right now, given the negative publicity.

I think the positive thing that comes out of BL is not so much that the contestants are perfect or the show is perfect lol (no one and nothing is perfect), but that weight loss IS possible for a wide range of folk.

I think that is positive because many people in our society are bombarded by messages that achieving a lower weight is NOT possible and it's good in my opinion to see people achieving just that.

And good for this contestant for working hard and winning. Is she too thin? I don't know.

It's a good bet she'll be adding pounds now that the pressure is off, so I have zero worries about her. She is one determined person and she'll do great in life. Especially if they don't take the money away from her on some technicality lol.

Moving in new directions.

Wow, she doesn't look 24 at all. She looks so much older to me.

How tall is she? She did what it took to win it will be interesting to see if she maintains such a low weight or if she gains some healthy weight back.

People will do extreme things for money. It sends a bad message to naďve minds out there, but at the same time, I am happy that the controversy has sparked some criticism about the show. When you push people to go beyond their natural limits, results can be unpredictable. If the show's management has any brains, they will take the opportunity to talk about healthy ways to lose weight and healthy expectations.

It is true that when an obese person loses a lot of weight, people take a while to adjust to seeing that person differently.....but considering that the TV adds weight to the image, I can't imagine what she looks like in person. Hopefully, now that the show is over, Rachel will find a healthy weight to stay at.

I think she worked very hard and put in a lot of effort throughout what the show represented during the regular season episodes.

I was a bit shocked when she came out on stage and had the initial thought that she was skin and bones. I agree with MJefferson23 that she may have become a bit obsessed.

I don't know her or what she has experienced after leaving the ranch but I do think she deserves the recognition that she did work hard. As far as her final weight, i'm not a doctor and don't know what is healthy for her size/height.

my impression is that Rachel loves competition and she became fixated on success. It is very unfortunate and I know we should not judge others but being on the biggest loser is asking for judgement in my opinion and Rachel does not look healthy.

I thought she was way too thin! I think she became obsessed. Don't be surprised if we hear more from her about this.

The only "diet" that works is consistency!

I was shocked to see her walk out on stage. She is too thin! Shame on the show for giving her the money. Those two men were thin and healthy looking and that is what the show is about.

It's sad that she won $250,000 and is not healthy! I understand the extreme measures people will take for money but the look on Jillian and Bob's faces when she came out says it all.

Just keep going...

While I'm not a fan of the Biggest Loser (or their methods), I don't think it's fair to comment on another woman's appearance. We get enough crap from the media and magazines, we don't need to pile on each other too.

Did anybody tune in to see The Biggest Loser last night? The winner, Rachel, was an emaciated 105lbs! She was skin and bones with no muscle tone or fat. It is tragic that she won the show being very underweight and unhealthy. What do you all think?

Just keep going...
