We've had the 4th coldest winter on record here, so haven't been able to shoot much lately. I work in the garden to de-stress as well. Winter time I do more reading, crochet, cross stitch. Sometimes, It helps me to relax to go through and plan meals for the next week or two.

Volunteer at a library or school, they need people who can move quickly to keep up with the young people, seriously, seniors might have a problem doing that, but you are in good shape. Maybe you could help with coaching kids in some sport. Just not doing the same thing would be relaxing, but not require sitting.

I love reading, crocheting, and knitting on my Knifty Knitter loom. I've also dabbled in making beaded jewelry.

I often make hats to donate to our local cancer resource center, and I make infant hats to donate to the hospital. I'm not able to work because I am disabled, so making and donating the hats makes me feel like I am doing something at least a little bit useful.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, and living with Stage IV breast cancer since 2007.

My most relaxing hobby is shooting. The amount of focus it requires forces me to let the rest of the world go and just concentrate on the target. That it requires absolute steadiness forces me to control my breathing in to a relaxed state, which seems to transfer to my state of mind.

It doesn't matter how stressed out I was when I got there - by the time I leave I am relaxed and happy.

Afraid of a colonoscopy? Believe me - they are much less frightening than surgery and chemotherapy.

Exercise of all kinds relaxes me, as does working, volunteering and my art.

Reading for pleasure is also a great way I relax.

Guess, just generally keeping busy with positive activities.

Moving in new directions.

Great ideas everyone. I actually do Yoga on a regular basis. I walk too but recently we've had snow emergencies here and -15 temperatures so it hasn't been so conducive... I'm trying to get away from working out mentally and physically. Obviously not totally but I think the mind/body need a break from it and thinking about it too.

I really dislike sitting still is part of the problem, but I know I need it for balance. For example, I do read - but sit on a stationary bike when doing so or on a treadmill... I also tend to read self-improvement or how-to books, perhaps I need something like fiction where I am NOT trying to work something or be productive all the time!

That's also why I'm considering volunteer teaching something, where you are helping someone else, and maybe moving/walking around versus just sitting, but then that's taking on more responsibility than maybe I have time for.

I'm kind of Type-A if you haven't noticed, LOL, but seriously am looking for balance.

I get into phases when I like to make scrapbooks and make beaded necklaces. I'm not particularly artistic, but I found that I get inspired when I see the scrap supplies and beads at the store (even Walmart), tend to buy some, and that gets me going in full steam production mode.

When I do these, it's just because I enjoy sitting there, usually with my kids making a mess with my supplies, but having fun together, so I fill a book with everything but pictures and give them as gifts. I've given them to friends having babies, getting married, graduating, and some I made as a family theme, for mom friends for no reason. I have yet to give any necklaces away, I feel a little self conscious about them, but I still have fun making them,

Yoga is awesome for relaxation and it would compliment your exercise routine improving your flexibility which is something athletes often overlook.

Reading, knitting or another craft and walking in the forest are also ways I like to relax.

I volunteer coaching my sons soccer team and at his school with math which are rewarding but not relaxing.

I read and cross-stitch mostly for non-active hobbies. It gets a tiny bit tricky to find cross-stitch patterns that I like (aka not designed by a 50's housewife) but online there are patterns to suit pretty much any interest.

This may sound odd but my hobby has always been exercising. It is also my stress relief. I also train and compete in sports. I also like to research health and fitness articles... etc

The problem is that doing it for all these purposes, my body can get over-trained. I am also considering it for a career, but some say to make sure you have something else you like to do or else you may tire of it since you're now doing it for work too. I do also enjoy renovating houses - but currently don't have a house to renovate now and that's also physically strenuous.

What are some ideas for relaxing hobbies? I'm thinking reading, and/or art... maybe volunteering?? Although I don't know how stressful the latter can be.
