Interesting and not at all surprising. I bought a pair of spanx several years ago, wore them once and not at all since then. They make me feel like a sausage and not shapely at all!

My daughter tried them and she does not like them because they take away your shape. She is a big girl but shaped nicely. The garment pulls everything up and then she has no shape ( well not the shape us ladies want anyway) Coke bottles. figure 8 emoticon

Have you noticed that once the contestants get several weeks into the Biggest Loser program they start wearing some type of body shaping during the weigh ins? I'm wondering if they wear something during the workouts, too. I think that's why the men start wearing shirts AFTER they've lost a good amount of weight. When they're at 400 pounds they are shirtless. LOL!

Dillards sells this stretchy t-shirt in black and white in the lingerie department that helps control the jiggle (for date night!) without squeezing your giblets!

Have a great weekend!!!

I've never felt the desire or need for shape wear like spanx, looks tortuous.

Very interesting. I do own a piece of "shape wear" but don't wear it anymore. I find it too difficult to get on. I like using a camisole that helps with my muffin top. It's much more comfortable.

No big surprise there. I bet they are better for us than the corsets that we would have been wearing of years past however.

Maybe people are wearing shapewear that is much too tight?

I have some shaper tops that I pretty much only wear for support while I exercise. They are actually quite comfortable and easy to get on and off.

I remember the girdle would leave a puckered, reddish mark around my waist after I took it off, it was torture. Plus when I was old enough to wear stocking I had to have a girdle with garters. The garters left dark spots on the front and back of my legs, it took years for them to fade. Years ago, a co-worker walked up behind me and smacked me on the bottom, in a surprised voice she said your butt does not move. I told her I did butt tightening exercises everyday, I still do. It has not help my stomach all that much, I have to hold it in, but I have a firm, tight hiney. No Spanx for me, ever. I had enough torture when I was youngemoticon

like GONNALOSE5...I was told that shapewear was the thing to do after you reached adulthood...you were not supposed to wiggle anywhere. It was like the corset of modern times. Sitting with shapewear on (even in summer) was agony...it always ended up rolling and pinching me in my waist. No way jose would I try that again.

I read a similar article recently. As much as I'd love to wear something every day that made me look slimmer it would just not comfortable.

I read that too and was surprised. When I was a skinny kid in my teens, I wore a girdle, it was not because my mother wanted me to look good or anything like that, it was simply that at a certain age she had been taught that girls were not supposed to shake or jiggle-anywhere emoticon

If it could push my belly roll up to make me look like I had nice boobs it might be okay! emoticon

I only use shapewear for really special occasions where I want to wear a "knockout" dress - i.e. formal parties or anniversary. The rest of the time, I chose clothes that I look good in without shapewear. But for that special occasion, a shaping garment that's comfortable (they do exist!!) is worth it.

I have never worn spanxs or another shape wear, but I always wonder how anyone could put that stuff on.

I always felt that it took too much effort to get on and off.....I couldn't be bothered to wear spanx as you could just go with control top pantyhose!

I always knew there was a reason I didn't wear spanx. I want to know where the rolls go, from your waist to your hips or maybe up around your neck. It can squeeze it up or down but not out.

I tell you what, I have a piece of "shapewear" and there is no way I would wear it daily. I wish I could, sometimes, because my belly is a sad ball of gooey fat and extra skin, and the shapewear REALLY helps, but I cannot deal with it. I like to breathe and wearing it stresses me out b/c I feel like I can't breathe.

I bought it to wear with my Christmas dress and so far the only time I've worn it out of the house is the night I wore that dress! LOL
