I'll admit I don't set many goals for my self, my bad. One I do have is to exercise 5 days a week, when I don't meet this goal I get a little moopy but just pick up again next week.

So.... the program assures you it's going to happen..... and then it actually DOES happen for the first time. My personal reaction would be.... (a little disappointment but) well, dad gum, they were right! And then I'd do exactly what they suggest.... reset the goal 15% back. And throw myself into trying to prove that doing exactly THAT, would give me the results I want-- thereby proving them right, again.

I reflect on what I did and make improvement to meet those goals.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!

I've always been hard on myself. It's always go hard or go home for me. But i've been through it enough times to know perfection isn't realistic and you are your own worst enemy. I'm still upset with myself sometimes but I get over it.

resetting a start point 15% back or readjusting a goal sounds like a good plan...

Today is Month 6 - Week 3 of Jim Wendler's 5-3-1 routine I'm doing, the concept is strength training via baby steps, you can read more here:
www.mensfitness.com/node/52747

Anyway, I have been making progress since I started and haven't plateaued at all but I did however suffer my first set back. Yesterday I hit a new personal record for Overhead Shoulder Push Press at 142.5#s for 4 reps and this morning was suppose to be 290#s for my deadlift (not a big number but for me, a 51 year old former fat boy, it's been an awesome ride) but nope, I couldn't do it.....ugh.

I did look at my progress chart since I started 6 months ago and could see the progress I've made and I am proud of that but dang it, I am not happy I didn't make my personal best this morning. I moped. Threw a mini-pity party for myself. Stupid, I know.

The program says that when this happens (and it assures you that it will happen at some point) you simply reset that routine back by 15% and re-start from there. And so I will.

Question: How do YOU react when you fall just short of a goal?
