Never. Only a bathtub works for me (and doesn't get my hair wet.) I use deliciously scented bath gel, not soap, so it doesn't dry my skin. Bathe daily. Like a mini-spa getaway!

I used to bathe daily. Usually it was just the nice feeling of "warm." These days, it's more of a challenge, so I bathe probably every other day-ish - dependent upon when I can't stand the way my hair is getting. Takes me an hour and exhausts me now, unfortunately. Still feels nice!

How ridiculous to have to "rest" after showering.

Shower every day, a must! Morning and then again after working out. I cannot sleep unless I am clean, soap and water fresh and exfoliated! I do not shampoo my hair, but I clean my hair every day with baking soda and water and cider vinegar and water as a conditioning rinse. Daily gentle exfoliating increases cell turnover. Your complexion glows and your skin is clearer, even toned and smooth.

I usually take a bath rather than a shower and do that every other day. I think my limit would be 3 days before I felt gross.
If it is really hot or I get very sweaty from exercise I may shower or bathe more frequently... maybe more than once a day.

Every day.

This is my 2 cents about dry skin and bathing (no offense meant to anyone):
In many cases (not all, but many), dry/flaky skin = dead skin cells that need to come off, meaning that you need to exfoliate on a daily basis (either using gentle physical exfoliation or, much better yet, using something like a glycolic acid lotion to get those dead skin cells off). Bathing less frequently may make those dead skin cells look more moisturized because your body oil is there, making them oily, but it doesn't do anything to actually get them off (which is what needs to happen).

The doctor told my MIL to bathe less frequently because she had dry skin. She told her to avoid soap, etc. All that did was actually make her smell (and, fortunately, she recognized this herself and decided to go back to daily showering, with soap). Once she started bathing more frequently and using a daily moisturizing lotion with glycolic acid to get those dead skin cells off, she's had no more problem with dry skin.

People generally don't tell other people when they smell... So, I'd be really careful about not bathing frequently enough. My mom is a heavy smoker and she showers about once per week and she washes her hair about once per week as well. She smells pretty bad (has a very, very strong cigarette smoke smell). There is NOT ONE person who has EVER told her how bad she smells. Her friends won't do it, acquaintances won't do it, neighbors won't do it and even her family won't do it--no one other than me has ever mentioned it to her and I only did that recently because her friends and neighbors have been telling ME about it. She is completely unaware of how bad she smells. Anyway, recently, several of her friends and one of her neighbors have talked to ME about her smell and how her house smells. So, in response to being told by several of her friends about the smell, I gathered my courage and tried to talk to her, first about her house (to see how that went before I mentioned her personal odor). I was met with hostility and Mom didn't speak to me for a month and is barely speaking to me now. The odor of her house and person are unchanged because she hasn't done anything about either. Just what I expected. I won't mention it again and she will continue to be shunned by people who don't want to be in her house or around her.

Another story regarding how people will not mention that you smell, no matter how bad it is--we had a neighbor who had a boyfriend who had the most horrible halitosis from bad teeth. The smell that came out of his mouth was so hideous that it literally made me gag a couple of times. You could smell the odor from his mouth throughout an entire room. Literally, the only thing you could think about when you were near him was his smell (and that you wanted away from it) and it was exponentially worse anytime he talked. Just thinking about it makes me feel a little nauseated. No one ever mentioned it to him and this went on for YEARS. People in the neighborhood were horrified by his smell and we all tried to avoid him. My husband and I absolutely dreaded those times when we'd have to even be in the same room with him. After years of this smell, I guess someone (I'm guessing his girlfriend--our neighbor--who is a registered nurse, by the way) must have mentioned something (or maybe it was a doctor...who knows), but he did get his teeth cleaned and fixed up and the odor went away.

Just my 2 cents.

I sponge bathe most days, and only shower about once a week, or if I have to go out. I remember a dermatologist once saying that daily bathing, and especially daily shampooing, was bad for you. He said that if you get into the shower every day, don't use the soap except on the "pertinent places," and just rinse off the rest of you. I'm fortunate I don't have to go out to work. When I worked every day, I did bathe but tried to follow his advice of not soaping my whole body. I found my skin looked much better when I did this.

Yes, everyday. If time or weather is a factor I take a "mini shower"; just enough to get wet all over, soap myself and rinse off in 2-3 minutes!

The only "diet" that works is consistency!

I shower once a week and hit the major areas everyday. I have very dry skin and showering makes me flake if to do it more often. I am 55 and have been doing it since my doctor told me to back 30 years ago. Never had any complaint of body odor. (and over the years I have worked with people that I KNOW would have told me if they smelled me) emoticon

Only when it rains...which in Iowa doesn't happen much in winter. So I take a snow shower. emoticon

I shower pretty much every day! I wash my hair 1-2 times a week depending how my scalp feels, I colour my hair so the less I shampoo the better it is for me! I would like to shower every other day but my skin screams for me to shower every day pretty much so I listen~

Like a previous poster, I have psoriasis. I shower every other day most of the time. But, in the hottest days of summer or after sweaty exercise shower more often. I love to take a refreshing cool shower on a summer day. I am a big fan of long, hot detox baths in the winter. I have to really moisturize after those because of the psoriasis but it is so worth it for the warmth and relaxation..

Ha! This is funny because my fiance thinks it's weird that I don't always shower everyday. It really depends on what I did that day otherwise I get seriously dry skin, even with lotioning. Right now because I have beefed up the workouts it's everyday, but I would prefer every other day. It's at least daily for my fiance (unless it's the weekend and he doesn't leave the house that day). On non-shower days I do what my mom called sink baths....soap up those "trouble" areas lol...pits, crack, etc

Depends on what I've been doing. Once a day if high activity, workout or before yoga session.. Every other day, usually in winter, when my hair and skin get dry.

My goal was every other day because of how dry and flaky my skin gets. But now that I am in menopause I have been showering every day because of the hot flashes and sweats.

I have oily hair so really need to shower/shampoo every day, but I've found plain old coconut oil to be an outstanding moisturizer. No more itchy, dry skin - it's non-irritating, wonderfully soothing, and has worked like a charm for me.

I suspect there are lots of individual differences where this is concerned, though - all acceptable, really.

I definitely wouldn't judge you as gross for not showering everyday. I do now, but let me tell you, when I was in college--in Manhattan (the Village, more precisely!)--it wasn't always a priority!

Besides, people have to do it all the time--like when we're flying internationally, we could be traveling for days' worth of time without a shower, all while being surrounded by all sorts of dirtiness from everywhere!

How often you need to shower depends enormously on where you live and what kind of activity you do. If you live where the air is dry and/or where the water is very hard, daily showers can be really, really hard on your skin and hair. If you're not perspiring a lot so you don't have issues with odor, then it might be *less* gross to shower less often. Showering daily in dry climates can give you flaky or chalky skin, dandruff, and so on.

I've lived in a variety of different climates. In humid places, perspiration and body moisture doesn't evaporate as well, so bacteria survive and can cause odors. In those places, I shower morning and night, and blow-dry my hair because it can take hours to dry, which is long enough for it to start to get a tiny bit funky. I live in the desert now, and even in hot weather, I shower at most once a day. Some days I just do a sponge bath (that way I get to feel good about water conservation at the same time I'm protecting my skin.)

I've known people who rely mostly on sponge baths and foot baths and only shower when they've actually gotten sweaty or dirty. None of them were smelly or gross. I've also known people who shower two or three times a day and *are* smelly and gross anyway. Showers aren't the only definition of hygiene.

I shower at least twice a day....

I bathe everyday, but I don't wash my hair everyday. I know that sounds gross, but I get my hair colored and its not healthy to wash it every day. I also use a dry shampoo so that helps!

Yes, that might be gross...especially if you are exercising a lot! Are you taking baths instead?

I usually shower twice a day--once in the morning and once after exercise at night. Sometimes that second shower is just a very quick rinse. Technically, I shower three times on days when I swim.

When we're at our house in Oregon, I take a shower daily (but wash my hair every other day) & soak in a tub 1 or 2x per week because I love the soft water.

Here in AZ, we don't have a water softener for our house so the water feels & smells bad and it dries out my skin so I only shower every other day & wash my hair 2x weekly.

For me, showering is only partly about being clean .... what I really like about showers is that if I'm down emotionally or not feeling well physically, they help.

If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat. (auth unk)

Once a day except on the weekends where if I'm not expecting to go anywhere, I'll just shower every other day. I workout before work so a shower afterwards is a must. :D
