Do it in small chunks, and think of the calories you are burning while tackling the task at hand.

Music. I attack one corner and then move right. I never skip a needed area. I finish the room I'm in then move to the next.

Every day is a new beginning.

Years ago a good friend suggested setting up each day for a specific chore. For instance, Mondays you clean the kitchen counters and floors. Tuesdays you dust. Wednesdays you do windows and vacuum. You get the idea. I wish I had that in me to do as I think it would make general cleaning much easier rather than having to do major overhauls each time because I don't keep up on it.

If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.

I've always lived in a small home, so clutter just isn't an option (IMO, anyway). Plus, a close family member is a hoarder, so I have a higher level of paranoia than most.

For many years, I would spend a large chunk of every Saturday cleaning house. I decided to try to free up some of my weekends, so I broke the cleaning down into jobs that would require less time but eventually get the whole house clean. Monday is bathroom, Wednesday is vacuuming, Friday is kitchen, and Sunday is dust/vacuum. I have specific days for laundry too, but I won't get too ocd on you emoticon The daily stuff (picking up, dishes, mail) gets done daily, no matter what. The big stuff like windows still gets done on weekends, but I break those down into chunks that I can manage. I delegate whenever possible, too.

As far as getting caught up, flylady.net has some great ideas. I usually find it helpful to look around and decide what area or chore is going to give me the most satisfaction or make the biggest improvement......and that's what I do first.

I break it down into very small jobs and put them all on a master list. The more the merrier. Then I say to myself you are going to do as many things as you can off this list in 30 minutes. I am usually surprised about how much I can do in that time which motivates me to do more.

Sometimes I have to set a goal for a specific job such as I will clean the bathroom counter and floor or I will weed the clothes in my closet and bag them up for donations. This helps me accomplish small tasks. Other times I have to get someone's help to motivate me by doing the job with me.

If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.

My family is lazy, I just get on and do a bit every night so then on the wknd I have lots of time to myself. So when they ask me for a ride somewhere or a friend over I break out the list ...or just say NO.

I do 15 minutes of cleaning, then 15 minutes of exercise. That's what has worked for me today! Then I don't feel like I'm trading off one for the other when I'm short on time or energy.

Put some good music on, turn the radio up, and start one room at a time. If that doesnt work, do it when you feel like it.

I find it hard to stay on top of housework - especially if something else happens. Last week was our week of prayer at Church every afternoon and evening and I was responsible for it. I've also been walking a dog for a neighbour and that meant going over at 9.45 each morning to walk him. So housework piled up. When I'm in routine I try to spend 1 hour most days doing housework. I'm not very methodical and I do like polished surfaces to have time to dry before I put stuff back on them so I put my music on and flit between the lounge and the kitchen, swapping over either after each job, each song, or 15 min intervals depending on what kind of job I'm doing. Oh, I make a precise list so I can tick off little jobs completed.

Unfortunately I've had to stop walking the dog. We both liked it, but I'm allergic to dogs and even having him outside was having an adverse effect. So at least I get my mornings back, and that's by far my best time for housework. Anything not done by 1.00 usually doesn't get done till the next day (unless I have company coming!)

I think you are on the right track. My mom used to invite friends over for dinner so she would be motivated to get the whole house in ship shape at the same time. Other times it was a good job in the kitchen one week, a good job in the living room another and bathroom every day.

I think you are doing great with the 15 minutes. It's much easier to take things in small chunks. There are 2 Spark Teams that I am on that are very supportive and help you break things down into baby steps and many people have some good tips.

One is Baby Steps Brigade, and the other is Fly Lady (There are 2 but the official team is best)

Good Luck!

Would love to see you as a teammate.

if we are going to get introspective, I prefer this philosophy: In order for something to become clean, something else must become dirty; but you can get everything dirty without getting anything clean.

Hire a cleaning person. That's what I did. If you don't want to hire someone, take one room at a time. My cleaning woman comes every other week. I clean my own house the week in between. Some weeks, I can't get to all the rooms, so I'll do the downstairs one day and the upstairs the next. I also have my daughter, who is 19, clean her own bedroom and bathroom on the alternate weeks. It helps if you keep on top of things. Everyday I do laundry, make my bed, put the dishes in the dishwasher, straighten up and vacuum.

For me, I use to look at cleaning the house as gigantic hugely huge job that would suck up an entire Saturday and part of Sunday but I since changed that to a "little at a time" concept.

So I finally did a marathon cleaning effort then spent a little time each day picking stuff up here and there. I stay on top of dirty dishes because they can pile up asap. I pick up laundry every and get it down to the washer and on Sundays I do laundry.

The key is to stay on top of things and plop down on the couch only if everything in visual range is clear, lol!

Hi all:
Lately I have been doing great on my fitness goals ( though the scale won't move...grrr) but there is one area I lack motivation in. That's housework. I am behind and need to do so much but I can't seem to get motivated. Today I am setting a timer for 15 minute intervals. Any other suggestions or tricks?

Today is a new day and I will not quit!
