I use the HIIT running program that SP has listed within the articles. If you want to loose that 20 lbs, running is the fastest way to do it combined with eating right of course. Check out the link below.
I'm more out of shape than I thought I was, so I'm hoping the intervals will give me a boost.
I used to be very fit and now I am not. I've been advised that intervals will help me get conditioned more quickly. I'm hoping it will. I used intervals before and enjoyed them, just to see how I could push myself.
Right now, my high intensity walking/running rate is probably close where my warm-ups used be. I get the urge to push really hard, to do what I was doing before, but I know that could lead to injury. The intervals give me a chance to feel little bursts of glory.

HOPE: Holding On, Praying Earnestly...from Guidepost Magazine
I'm working my way back to the size I want to be. On a journey for strength and good health.
yes i "surge", "burst", HIIT daily for 12 minutes. I heard that it burns fat up to 36 hours, but you have to make sure you are going at your highest intensity.
want to know if you are working at your highest intensity? Try this exercise
A loved one is caught under a rock. You have 30 seconds to push that rock away to save your loved one. 30 is up. Rest. They are giving you another chance which you didn't know you were going to get. 30 seconds of pushing and another rest. You get one final chance. This is the last time. Push until you have absolutely nothing left.
my trainers do this for a total of 4 exercises. We repeat each exercise 3X. By the end of the 12 minutes i am completely spent and get to reap the benefits of fat burning for 36 hours.
I'm working on upping my running distance, so I've backed off on my HIIT workouts while I'm working on that, but I credit HIIT to really helping my kick start the last 15 lbs. of loss after some plateauing. I'm still trying to do at least a quick session before I lift on x-training days, and also incorporating a bit into my shorter runs.

I use to do this type of cardio several years ago (or 20 lbs ago, lol) and when the weather was good I'd go to the high school track and sprint the straights and recover walk the ends and my routine took about 35 min to complete and on bad weather days I did it on the treadmill.
In those days I had lost the bulk of my weight and had started strength training and I felt pretty good and then I got the idea that I wanted to gain more muscle mass......so I did and now at 5'6" I am at 200lbs and though I did reach my 2013 goal of wider shoulders and a thick back I need to lose 20lbs of FAT! Hahahahahahaha!!!! The fat I have actually helped me get to my goal because of the punishment my body took lifting heavy and so now, it's time to "cut".
