Thank you to everyone who answered. I didn't think my question was meaningless, so for those that might have thought that, maybe you shouldn't read this.

I am currently weighing myself daily, but like Janie's idea, I'm going to try and twitch my nose after I finish writing this emoticon

I have been at this a long time with such limited results I am hoping by putting myself on the scale daily and being accountable to ME, this will help!

Thank you all for your support!!

J

Why would it matter which day of the week you weigh on? Just pick one.

You could even weigh yourself every day if you want to.

There are no hard-and-fast rules about these things. Just pick something that works for you and get going.

What you don't want to do is to over-think meaningless details like this. Put your mental energy into actively doing the real things (diet, exercise) that are going to help you actually lose weight.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

long term it makes absolutely no difference what day of the week you weigh. short term it might, but not long term. because you have to remember that one weigh in means nothing, it's the general trend of your weigh ins that counts.
so even if you go a little on the excessive side for the weekend and pack on some extra water weight, after about a month or two if you are losing a pound a week, the loss will be enough that you'll see the downward trend in numbers, even if you are carrying around an extra five pounds of water on mondays.
and actually the primary definition of diet is what one eats. so technically anything you eat automatically becomes a part of your diet simply because you ate it.

-google first. ask questions later.

It would be nice if we could twitch our nose and the pounds would be gone.

I think weighing on Thursdays would be helpful when you are finally on maintenance, because, after your weekend of over eating a bit, you have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to eat well, and lose what you gained over the weekend, it will keep your weight the same. But for losing, I think Friday would be better, so you only have Saturday and Sunday to over do. Been there and done that, by the way,,,,,,,,,,it lasted for several months.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

The day you weigh in matters less then what you are thinking about with the weigh in. If weighing on Thursday helps you keep on track over the weekend, then weigh on Thursday. If weighing yourself on Thursday means you don't follow a healthy diet over the weekend then weigh on Monday.

I need the reinforcement of daily weights. Others do better with weekly or monthly weigh ins. Others do better with measuring on a regular basis. You have to figure out what works for you.

Accepting that this is a lifestyle not a diet is huge. That mind shift is a lot more important than what day you weigh. Making healthier choices everyday, exercising regularly and not allowing yourself to be a number a scale is the way to win!

I don't think it's a matter so much of which day you choose for your weekly weigh-in, or even IF you make it a weekly weigh-in (I weighed in monthly while losing). It's pretty much a matter of math...of calories in/ calories out + the consistency of your efforts. If you keep track of your caloric intake carefully, you should be able to average a loss of a pound a week. Some weeks will yield a greater loss and some less, which is why I only weighed monthly.

Try to focus on your intake when you and your husband go out, and keep track of it. You don't want to undo all your weekday efforts...

It is your weight loss and life style change so you get to design what it looks like. I personally would not weigh more than once a week so you don't get discouraged. The scales don't own you....as your are more than a number. Our weights can change from day to day even when we eat right so why stress over 1/4 lb. I would also use a tape measure to track how you are doing.

I think it depends on what motivates you. If you intend to eat well every day, then it shouldn't matter what day you weigh on. If you know that you will use out as an excuse to eat poorly on the weekends because you have all week to make up for it before you weigh in, then it's a bad idea. In that case, maybe a Monday morning weigh in will keep you on point through the weekend. That's what I would do, but I have a history of torturing myself on diets. It works for me, but for someone else that might be the single thing that makes them give up. You need to find what works for you.

As you work towards your goals just check your progress whenever your curiosity gets you. It's just a way of seeing where you are and how far you've come. That's why it's good to do the measurements, the scale, and a photo of yourself for you own info. Positive feedback is motivating, negative feedback lets you know you need to adjust your strategy/

So, I am trying, again, to put myself first. And by doing that, is hopefully dropping some serious pounds. But, I hope to be smart about it this year. Wouldn't you love to wake up and HOLY COW, I lost 50 pounds??? Well, that's what I am hoping to do. And how you ask? By losing 1 pound every week. I have, in the past, said, oh, I'm going to lose 10 pounds by the end of January... Hmm, might I be setting myself up for failure? Maybe, I think so.
But, this is my dilemma, can I weight myself (for the official weigh in of the week) on Thursday's? I am not saying I am on a diet, because that means it will end. And if I am going to learn how to do this, I must be doing 'it' every day. But my husband and I go away A LOT on the weekends, and I am thinking if I do Thursdays then I should pretty much always be accountable, and around. AND if I don't happen to track on the weekends, I might feel less guilty. Again, this is about the rest of my life.
Let me know what you think. I value all my brothers and sisters out here in SP world..

Thanks for your time!

Hugs
