I was leaving my job at Westinghouse to join my husband at Westover A.F.B. and my boss gave all the girls in the office tickets to see Johnny Mathis at one of the night clubs in Pittsburgh. He sang a medley of songs but Chances Are comes to mind because he was wandering through the audience and he gave me his scarf. I was 19 yrs. old and I nearly fainted. When he finished his songs he said [We have a young bride in the audience and I want to wish her many happy years with her lucky man} Well Johnny,it' been 56 happy years.

Creed "One Last Breath" and "My Sacrifice"

And plenty of music from the '90's, back when musicians had a purpose other than stupidity and overt sexuality.

I'm glad to see this post. I had one of the moments about 1/2 an hour ago. I was at the gym and Counting Crows, 'Mr. Jones and me' came on. It took me right back to the summer when I was 20 years old, and bought my first house and anticipating my upcoming wedding in the fall. I've never been a big fan of the song, but it always takes me back to that wonderful time in my life. I can even "feel" what the weather was like then.

"Renegade" by Styx reminds me of a boyfriend in high school who was the epitome of the "bad boy" but I was madly in love and did a lot of stupid things with him. Styx was our band.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

"Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett always makes me think of my mom (it's one of her favorite songs)

anything by Zac Brown reminds me of my sis (she loves Zac!)

"Save Me" by Shinedown reminds me of my youngest brother. His life is a mess due to drugs and other poor choices

since my other brother was in Desert Storm, I get teary eyed when I hear the national anthem. So very glad he's at home and out of the army!

I could fill a book with song titles, and tell you where each song takes me.

But there is Reba McEntire's "Is there Life out There?" She also did a movie on this theme of a mother going back to school. I love the song but the movie was lame IMO because my life going back to school was far more dramatic than her character in the movie, and my challenges were bigger. I was thirty, my (now ex) husband was cheating, and I had two kids two or under, plus an 8 year old at the time I went back to school and took my very first college class. But I still did it. And now I actually have a Ph.D.

And of course every cheating song ever written, including Reba's "The Wife is the Last One to Know."

Mary Chapin Carpenter's "He thinks he'll keep her" with words like: When she turned 21, she wore her mother's lace (I was 19 when I got married) When she turned 29, she delivered number 3, (I was 29 when I delivered #3) ... Every Christmas Card showed the perfect family," When she turned 36, she met him at the door, and said "I don't love you anymore." (I divorced him when I was 32).

I guess I better condense my "book" here. As for more recent songs, there is "Over You" by Miranda Lambert. Yes, it takes me back to the loss of a child 7 years ago now. There are other songs that are not so "heavy" that take me back, as well, and even inspire me. Okay, I'm going back to the 70's again.....One is "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac. I remember being very down as a teenager, but hearing that song seemed to remind me that I could go out and make a better plan for myself to have a better life. It even relates to taking charge of bad eating habits and losing excess weight. Yes, hearing some songs will make me cry, no matter where I am or what I am doing so I might have to work hard to tune them out if I'm not by myself. I'm actually a happy positive, optimistic person, but I do enjoy "going back" in songs, even the sad ones.

And there are so many songs of the 70's...I remember the guy I was dancing with as so many of the different ones played...and all that nostalgia....Stairway to Heaven.....Take it to the Limit...and so on and so and so on....

I love this thread! With that being said, the song that really takes me back is "Graduation" by Vitamin C. That was our song that we had played at our high school graduation (I chose it!). I bring it up on YouTube occasionally, and the tears start streaming.

Captain and Tenille, Love will keep us together. It was my ex hubbys favorite song about the time we got married. To this day I cringe when I hear it.

It was 1985, I was 18, and my Mom let me take the car on my own for the first time. I just had my license. I was to pick her up after her shift. She told me to put the windows down (to listen for emergency vehicles) and keep the radio off.

After she got out and went inside I took off. I put the windows up and turned the radio on. The first song I heard, "More Than A Feeling" by Boston.

contrary to my usual humor

The Police - "Every Breath You Take" written by Sting.. sends chills up my spine.
It reminds me of every stalking incident, every overly possessive relationship, and
every female kidnapping that I hear about.

"Dust in the Wind" and anything by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young make me think of my first boyfriend. He played guitar and we would spend hours singing all kinds of songs. :) I have a hard time listening to Yes, even though I love them. My late brother and I were obsessed with Yes in high school. :D. I am better at it now, but listening to them is bittersweet.

Oasis - Wonderwall. Takes me back to the time the person I was dealing with let me know - quite passive aggressively that it used to be his ex's favorite song so therefore it was off limits to me... I guess it was the first time I knew that he would soon be the ex - I now have that song in 3 versions on my devices - I quite like that song.

"Coward of the County" by Kenny Rogers takes me back to waiting tables at Pizza Inn. Every kid that came in played that stupid song on the jukebox. I tried to bribe the vendor to remove it to no avail.

Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" makes me angry every time I hear it.
That was the last scene on the series finale for The Sopranos. Just left you hanging. I was not happy. GRRRRRRR

Foreigner's "Cold As Ice" takes me back to my first 'serious' boyfriend breaking up with me. When he started his car, that was the song that was playing. I started laughing so hard.
and eventually found my first REAL love - his best friend.

Do certain songs trigger memories for you? Good times? Bad times? Bitter Sweet times?

Jeffery Osborne's "On the Wings of Love" take me right back to the summer of '83 when I fell in love for the first time. Every now & again I [pull it up on youtube and even though it doesn't affect me the way it use to I do enjoy hearing but some songs I just can't bare to hear or I'll fall apart.
