I use them sometimes on business trips, but what I usually do is bring one of my workout DVDs and play it on my laptop in the room.

Yes. I travel for work so I make it a point to stay at a hotel that has a gym. Granted, some gyms are better than others but at the very least I have a treadmill. I can use a bench or the floors (in my room, in the gym, the hallways) to do some plyo exercises.

It depends on the facility. I have happily used equipment at hotels but at some, the equipment didn't look like it was properly maintained.

Normally, I'll try to do calisthenics and/or run/walk if there if there's not a gym.

Usually hotel fitness centers aren't enough for me and the pools are too small for any kind of real swimming. If I am gone more than a day or two I generally find a real gym and pay the day rate.

Always! I make sure the hotel has a fitness room, and if it also has a pool that's a bonus.

I'll always make use of the gym, hot tub, and sauna and pool if available!

dh and I will only book a room at a hotel that has a pool and a fitness room & we don't care if it costs $5 or $10 more. there have been a few that were really well equipped with various weights, balls, cardio stuff and so on.

If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat. (auth unk)

I always do if it's included or if my travel points will cover it. Some of the hotels I've stayed at lately actually charge extra to use the gym. Bummer!

BTW - All of the hotel gyms I've used have attendants, and are secured by key card so I feel pretty safe.

Sometimes. It depends on how good the gym is, how busy it is, what time I arrive and what time I need to be up in the morning. I do try to get some exercise in though.

I usually won't book a hotel room unless it has a gym, especially if I've been driving all day, I need a way to work off some energy. Generally, it just means that there's an elliptical and a treadmill stuck in a room somewhere, but sometimes the fitness facilities are pretty nice.

However, if you ask at the front desk, sometimes they have arrangements with a local fitness facility, and you can use a full-size gym for free. Best option is when it's within walking distance, or your hotel offers a shuttle that can drop you off or pick you up.

It all depends on the purpose of the trip - active or sedentary. However, if I'm attending meetings all day and thus forced to sit indoors for hours at a time I will absolutely use the hotel's workout facilities. Since I don't drink it's a great excuse to beg off when colleagues want to hang out in the bar after our meetings - and no one ever gives me grief about choosing a workout over socializing.

The bonus is the opportunity to try different equipment and new routines.

When I travel for work, I'll often use the hotel gym. It's either that or not workout (often) so I gotta do what I gotta do. On vacation, I'll usually find more fun options for working out!!

I have used the elliptical before, but I usually just use the pool if I'm on vacation- usually I'm not at the hotel long enough, and I am always doing something active while traveling anyway.

Very seldom, mostly because you never know what you are going to get. Some have great equipment which malfunction a lot and some have some of the basics but allow you to get a great workout in.

absolutely! I check the hotel's site to see what's available before I head out. And I pack my Pilates book and resistance bands.

As a member of the Y, I can also use their facilities when I travel if there is one convenient.

I do. My regular work out is boot camp style. So it's nice to mix it up with equipment I don't normally have access to.

on vacation, I'm usually too busy sightseeing and walking around.

on business trips or conferences , it was usually an all day affair where you were together with your colleagues morning noon and night. And dinner is often at least 2 hours at a landmark restaurant. If I had time...I used it for sightseeing..

I never have, but would if I was staying for a while.

Yes, the last time that my sister and I went out of time. My main request was that we find a place that has a gym. It was the best time every not having my workout routine interrupted.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!
No such thing as last place only finishers.

My husband is a Sr. Network Engineer and often travels on business and I accompany him on all of his trips. We are set up in motels w/ totally awesome gyms w/in and I was wondering if when you guys travel if you utilize the gyms in your motels too? I normally hang out either in there or the pool all day till he gets back in. Lots of cals burned !
