If you go to the points area, there is a place toward the top on the left where you can look at the leaderboards.
Yesterday I took a look at that, and with one exception, they were all brand new members--likely they are racking up points for all of the tasks that you initially complete when you start using the site.

Sounds to me like *somebody* has way too much time on their hands.

We also have members on the far side of the planet where it's already tomorrow. The tracker, points, and everything are set to the member's time zone, so if that member with the 1400 points is in Australia or New Zealand, s/he got 1400 points in two days.
As people already said, some members track everything ahead of time. They find they're more likely to stick to it, because if they don't, they'll have to go in and correct it all. I'm not that organized myself, but I have occasionally managed to do it up to 3 days in advance, and it actually does help. If that's what happened, the person will drop down on the leader board as the month progresses.

Well, I don't know how to earn 1400 points in a day, but I can see how 500 might be possible if you are really working at earning points for points sake. A few people are a bit...unethical...about how they earn points. For example, I know someone who creates a blog for every random thought that passes through her head. Then she comments on her own blogs...and she creates threads on the boards on the same topics...and comments on those excessively. None of the things that she is posting about are helpful to others, they are just her own, small experiences.
I sometimes track ahead as much as a week--that really doesn't end up padding your points in the long run--it just gives you a roadmap to follow.
Some people track their food for the month in advance. I don't know whether they also track their exercise and water. It seems strange to me - but of course they can't earn that many points the rest of the month because they've had them already. So you can catch them up later - maybe.
