I supernate and have extremely high arches from dancing, so maybe I wear out shoes a bit fast. It was just funny with this pair how quickly they went from fine to painful. I only wear them 3-4 times a week for cardio/weight workouts and walking. I wear dance sneakers and swim fins for my other workouts. They still look fine, so I will keep them around as gardening shoes.
Anyhow, I bought a new pair of Asics running shoes and, like magic, my toes do not hurt anymore.
as others have noted what you are doing in those sneakers is going to determine how long they will last. if there are getting a lot of any use, nine months isn't unreasonable. my running shoes tend to last a few hundred miles, however long it takes me to get there. if you are doing anything that causes undue/constant stress on a certain part of the shoe, say doing a lot of toe lifts, the portion of the shoe that has the stress may wear out before the rest of the shoe. you may be able to buy inserts to extend the life of the shoe a little.
the thing i haven't seen mentioned yet is your feet. is it possible that they have spread? in other words could your shoes now be too small for your feet? could you have a bunion or other foot issue that is making those shoes not right for your feet anymore? also is there any chance that it's something else that you're doing [stubbing them on the new side table for example] that is causing the issue?

I found that Asics Nimbus work for me and have worn them faithfully for 5 years. My shoes last about six months and then I donate them to our local running room for redistribution to charity. I have a pair just for outside and a pair just for the gym, so when the outside ones are done, I switch into the gym pair and get a new pair for the gym.

Depends on what I am doing with them. My running shoes last 3 to 4 months. And then they are garbage so they hit the trash. I use my crosstrainers a little longer because I feel that my cross training activities like studio classes and machines aren't quite as hard on the shoes.
I've always kept one pair just for running, and my old running shoes become my gym shoes. Now that I've gone minimalist, they have no cushion...so they last until they fall apart.
I still like my RunTones, but don't wear them very often at all. The downside of those shoes is the mesh rips VERY easily. The top of the shoe usually gets a tear way before the soles are worn out. I don't even know if you can still buy them, but I doubt I would any way because of that issue.
