It's a strange New Year's for me because I don't feel the need for a resolution regarding my exercise/diet habits. I've finally internalized healthy lifestyle habits and have been maintaining my weight goal, within five pounds, with consistent tracking and exercise. I'm a great example of someone who just kept plodding on, establishing habits, that eventually showed results. So, after a lifetime of weight-loss New Year's resolutions, my resolutions now involve social, intellectual, spiritual goals. Kind of a nice change....

2014 is going to be a big year for me. I will turn 30 on January 4th and will be getting married in September. Last year was one of the best (got engaged) but challenging (health wise) years of my life. I was diagnosed with atypical facial neuralgia and was put on a med that had weight gain as a side effect. In short, I gained 20 lbs this year... Definitely not what most brides want to do before their wedding. So now that they've replaced my med, I'm determined to get my body back. I need to strengthen my will power muscle and be consistent with my workouts... Like I used to be. I have a lot to look forward to this upcoming year and I want to be as fit and confident as I can be. Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year!!

December 2013 was not a good month for me - too much food and not enough exercising.... However, it's not the end of the world because I used portion control most of the time. My weight was pretty much the same. Therefore, this coming January 2014 will be my the month when my exercising becomes more regular and my food control back in order. I no longer do New Year's resolutions as the weight will come off eventually with good habits. Being that I am Hypothyroid, it does take more effort to lose weight so I don't want to put pressure on myself to lose weight at a steady pace because this is not possible for Hypothyroids. Bring it on 2014!

Yes. I've been so off track this year. Time to get motivated again. I'm not usually into New Years resolutions, but it seems like a good restarting point. I've joined some new teams, added a few new friends, plan to make good use of Curves membership.

I think it's a great way to help refocus on important goals and review them to see how things are going. I do try to reset/recharge the goals throughout the year. I do agree that living is based on small daily choices that slowly lead to an overall change.

Studies show that just one thing to improve on is the best for New Years resolutions. Last year was try one new Cardio. My gym buddy's was to do plank push ups.
This year I am going for a duathalon. SO that is major increase of Carido to train. I will run 2 miles then ride 25 miles then run 2 more miles. In March!

The week between Christmas and New Years is always a chance to catch my breath, slow down and reflect on life. I can't really say I make a formal "resolution", but I always seem to come through this week with a renewed determination to make a better life. In 2013, I lost sight of myself again, and I reverted to some old habits I thought I had long left behind. Its time for a fresh focus, and this is the best time of year for me to take the time to plan and think it through--set some goals, come up with some strategies and start anew.

Time to "take charge" of my life!

For me, the date doesn't make a difference. Because it's the daily choices you make that really changes things. It's a daily battle for me not to overeat and keeping my weight down! Because I love food so much but I have to keep controlling myself, so to me, the date doesn't make a difference at all, as it's just an ongoing, constant battle!

Yes. In the last year I had so many not so good things happened in my life. Those bad things had me frozen in all parts of my life. I am ready to unfreeze now. And I have been slowly been working on getting past these hurts.

So I have started with being more organized and keeping up with anything and everything that needs doing.

After the first of the year I will be able to sign up for a walking track. I have that marked on my calendar. I believe this will help me be more social also.

A new year and a new chapter in all of our lives.

Full of hope and good cheer.

I'm going to attempt to give up all animal products. I will do it gradually over the first 6 months of the year. Already I don't eat beef or pork.

Not really. Resolutions always seem like a good thing to me, but life sometimes gets in the way, and when I don't complete them to my satisfaction I set myself up for disappointment and disgust with myself. So I just don't. My "resolutions" tend to be more the short-term variety! like, I *WILL* clean that oven this week! LOL

Besides, I see the changing of the year in seasons, ongoing. Calendar dates are so artificial for me; other than major holidays or schedules which have to be complied with because it's "just life", I don't pay much attention.

...the problem with people these days is
they've forgotten we're really just animals ...

Yes, it does. Life itself is a process of change and trying to improve ourselves at every opportunity and that is especially exciting at the beginning of a brand new year.

January's name itself is derived from the Roman god Janus, who was the guardian of doors and looked both backward and forward. So this coming month to me is a time to reflect on what's past and strategize for the future and I always want to be able to make changes and also be fluid in accepting changes that come upon as a natural part of life.

Life is good and I'm excited about the Glorious Year 2014.

A favorite quote of mine is attributed to one of the Anne of Green Gables books (L.M. Montgomery) I grew up on: "Today is a brand new day with no mistakes in it, yet."

And 2014 is a brand new year with no mistakes in it ... yet!

Moving in new directions.

I always feel the start of the year feels like a brand new slate. To me it always feels like a starting point that I can use to measure and see what I can accomplish that year. I don't necessarily make resolutions...I just try to improve a little on what I'm doing so far.
For me getting organized is something I need to work on...
and of course exercise......what else is new.

I gave up making New Year's resolutions years ago. So, I won't do anything different for January. I've come to a point in my life where I feel that self improvements can be made year round, not just at the new year.

And like KJ, I try to avoid the gym crowds too. LOL !!!

Nope, when you get to be older, you realize there is no magic in the "New Year", except for advertisers, magazine writers, tv talk shows going on and on..................changes made at New Year's are no more likely to stay "changed" than if you made them on Valentine's Day or Memorial Day.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Always! I feel like every year, I've been able to improve something about myself and my life and my situation. A lot of the time, the changes are not what I expect or resolve them to be, but they are always positive changes. This year, I was able to give up candy and pizza. I also got a new job this year and was promoted twice! I was also able to start getting into more theatre. I had the lead role in two shows and was cast as a lead in an upcoming show. I'm very excited to see what the year 2014 brings for me.

Each year, it means change for me. I look forward to the end of the year to be hopeful for the next. I usually have a handful of resolutions with number one being "To Keep Perspective". My mom, husband, and I write our goals, short and long term on a 3x5 card. Years past, the goals were buy a home, have children, lose weight (of course), save more money. Within a 10 year frame of doing this, we've had ups and downs. Hubby and I lost our first son. My mom and step dad lost their first home they bought. We were on the brink of losing ours. Still chose at the end of each of those years to write things down and dare to dream. This coming year brings alot with it. Our twins will turn seven, I'll continue my weight loss journey as I've lost a solid 25 pounds in 2013 (lost 30, gained 5 over the holiday), and the savings (with much discipline) will grow. I truly feel it helps to solidify resolutions by writing them down.

Thanks for Listenin'

For me the new year is a fresh start because December is so busy with getting Christmas ready for my family, planning a lax tournament, socializing and parties and the inclement weather that makes it hard to be outside and get around. I look forward to Jan when the kids are back in school and the routine returns and I can find the time for me again

Mostly more of the same. I will keep trying to eat healthy and I will keep working out.

What I will do different is pick a fun goal like a craft class, a dance class, wood working like lathe turning (looks like fun), something that is just for me to enjoy that I wouldn't do otherwise.

Last year I started january Jumpstart on 31st December, joined SC in January, started exercising regularly and enjoying it, and went down from 62.5 kilo on 31st December to 54.5 in may. NInreached 57, my original goal in march. I decided 55 is my ideal weight. And have been over it for the rest of the year.... About 56.5 -57 at the moment. I am now doing jumpstart again, and aiming to increase the cardio to at least 30 mins a day, including amshort cardio video if the rest of it is walking round town or walking the dogs.
This year I had monthly resolutions, aimed at forming habits. The main successful habit i formed was regular exercise, which has continued. I also formed the habit of eating 5 vegs most days. The monthly resolutions had tailed off by about May, but have led me to exercise regularly, get mymweight down and keep it a few kilos lower thannit was, and eat lots of veg. This year I hope to form a habit of decluttering, but have notnyet decided what my January habit will be. I want to increase the number of steps I take, butnthis is difficult in winter. Have justndone a 2 mile Leslie Sansone workout, but I got bored and only clocked up about 2500 extra steps. 2 one mile sessions might be better...
Yes, i am in favour of resolutions, but monthly resolutions!
