I've been on Spark since 2006, and the support I've received and the friends I have made here is why I am still here.

My Spark friends have been a big support in encouraging me to live the best life I can despite living with cancer. The first time I was diagnosed, in 2003, was long before I joined Spark, and it never occurred to me that I could still try to exercise while going through chemo and radiation. One of the first teams I joined here on Spark was for cancer survivors; there were several on the team going through chemo or radiation, and they were still exercising, so when my cancer returned in 2007 (unfortunately, not curable this time), I knew that that did not mean I had to give up on my health and fitness goals. I have limitations now with what I can do and what I can eat, but if you really try, I have learned there are ways to work around those issues.

I know that diet and exercise won't cure me, but it can make the quality of the life I have left better. I hope to encourage others with a cancer diagnosis to pursue their goals also.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, and living with Stage IV breast cancer since 2007.

Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

I wrote a blog post the other day and so many people responded to it with positive comments. This was so uplifting to me. That's when I really realized what SparkPeople is really about. We all need support sometimes.

For me, I felt very alone and resigned about weight loss. I'm afraid if I lose weight, I'll gain it all back and more. So in essence, a diet is a very hard way to gain ten pounds. There was overwhelming relatedness to this feeling and a lot of love and support. When I was vulnerable and honest, I was rewarded by this community.

I want to hear more stories like this. Please share your experience of how you have been supported when you needed it most.
