Agree with PPs, candy left on a desk in an office is traditionally meant to be an offering to everyone. You did nothing wrong and guilt is not warranted.

But if you still feel that way and the candy is still there today, you could wait until the desk occupant is there and smile at her/him and take a piece. I guarantee they will smile back.

Moving in new directions.

I usually keep candy on my desk for when "guests" come for visit. I'm out at the moment. The hordes ate it all with a little help from me. LOL !

Nah, if candy is in a dish, it means that everyone is welcome. it is a time of giving and lots of people put out treats for the holiday. We've all mooched at the office. It's okay.

I have 2 candy bowls on my desk (one is sugar free). Stop by any time & help yourself - that's why it's there!

I tend to buy things that I don't really like very much, so I'm not tempted.

Bowls of candies are usually meant for anyone to help themselves. If you saw a box of chocolates on the desk and took the lid off to help yourself, I would consider that a little bold, however.

I wouldn't think another thing about it. Have a nice Christmas!

The VP for my company has a giant bowl of candy on his desk year round. It's there for us to enjoy. How he doesn't gorge himself daily is beyond me. emoticon And I am glad I have to go out of my way to walk by his office. But it's nice to be anle to grab a couple pieces when a random craving hits.

Candy in a bowl on a desk is there to share. It would be different if you ransacked her desk looking for chocolate! Happy Christmas.

I volunteer at the admin. offices of a healthcare org. I was there this morning, and as I was putting files back in one of the managers' offices for her, I saw she had a huge bowl of holiday candy on her desk. She wasn't there, but on impulse I just couldn't help it and took one shiny red foil wrapped mini chocolate bell. While I assume the bowl was an offering to anyone, ever since then I've been nagged by this guilt as if I'd stolen the candy. I've been trying to rationalize that I'm still a good person, a volunteer... but I felt like I did something wrong and yet would be too embarrassed to say anything to her about it after the fact.

Just airing/confessing but also interested in any of your opinions.
