Oh, sure! Every now and then, I eat like that and can relate to the temptation involved. I allow myself a couple such days a month, now that I'm maintaining (and tracking). I don't feel the old food cravings, anymore, that I used to get, though - I feel depressed and queasy the next day. The depression isn't regret, because I know I'll get right back on program, but I suspect it's some biochemical reaction to eating large quantities of not-the-healthiest foods.
All the same, I do it...and as the "day" approaches, I can't wait to dive in! The only difference is, it's planned now, so I don't do any permanent damage.
I had family in town for a couple of days and ate their usual favorites. Plus, I had holiday goodies around. It took 2-3 days before I stopped feeling like I had a brick in my stomach. A little indulgence is okay, but more than that makes me miserable.

I think the really IS bad food: it is food that has very little actual food in the ingredients list and contains lists of chemicals and preservatives that is miles long. Most food packaged and fast foods are just this and I believe it is killing our civilization. We are becoming fatter, stupider and sicker than ever. So, let's not kid ourselves, even moderation of this crap will produce toxic, mood alternating effects. I'm really glad you shared your experience about the can of cookies and the kids eat free pizza night cause all of us get to remember what it's like and you get to have the 'gift of desperation' to put you back on track.

I've only recently started noticing this...but for me, I don't even have to go very wrong to feel bad.
I made paella a couple of days ago for a party and had a serving of the leftovers the following day. Now this is a good, healthy, fresh dish full of vegetables and seafood which I made myself...but that much white (arborio) rice is enough to make me feel lousy.
I really want to make holiday treats for my boyfriend and his family, but I know I will probably have a taste if I do and end up feeling bad.
i don't now and never have believed in moderation. moderation is one of the things that got me in trouble in the first place. As to good foods and bad foods- yes I most certainly agree that there are foods that should be stayed away from. I went raw about three years ago. I have altered that slightly every now and then but when I first started i was close to 100%. I had been raw about 4 months when my nephew hit his 18th birthday. As the birthday celebrant, you can choose where to go eat. Of course, this wonderful nephew of mine chose BWW. The salads are horrible there unless you like eating three pieces of lettuce, a sad looking tomato, a super thin slice of cucumber and maybe some shredded cheese. I chose to do 6 wings in teriyaki. i didn't do the fries since i was going with the chicken. I certainly did not over indulge. Then we went to the house and his birthday cake was ice cream cake. I had a slice even though I had not had any dairy whatsoever in 4 months. The next morning I was run down and felt horrible. My sister had the same thing I had so i knew it was food poisoning. I did call my raw food chef and she suggested for the next two days to drink down an extra smoothie. I felt better by day 2.
Even in moderation, fried foods are not good for you. Even in moderation, processed foods are not good for you. your body does not know how to digest processed foods. Much of it will sit in your intestines for weeks. My dietician who was specifically selected for me because of my lifestyle, told me that the bagel i used to have for breakfast would stay in my digestive tract a long time.
So, you ate too much. It happens. I also agree that no food is "ad" and everything under the sun is allowable. Of course, making healthier choices like whole fruits and vegetables, lean meats and dairy, and healthy fats leave you feeling better.
Have you considered taking time to figure out why you accidentally went overboard? I took a peek at your nutrition tracker. For the last couple days, I am thinking/hoping you neglected to track because there are very few items tracked. Then, you had a couple days under 1200 calories. I am thinking you aren't perhaps eating enough. the minimum calorie range on SP for women is 1200-1500. Maybe you didn't track 100% but if you did, honestly, you may be eating way too little!
I do every time I stray from healthy eating! If I eat too much sugar or carbs or junky foods I feel the affects, sometimes for days. Glad you have learned this about yourself, sorry you had to learn the hard way.

I only feel like that when I eat pizza or spaghetti, those particular foods really do a number on your blood sugars and stomach, compared to other over indulgent meals. It's the combination of fat and oily tomato sauce, greasy meats, and too much starch. Other kinds of tasty foods don't make me sick, but they don't do any good in the weight loss department. On the other hand, eating whole, fresh fruits and lots of vegetables, and low fat meat or fish, doesn't always agree with my stomach, either, and it doesn't stop cravings to just eat like that, unlike what the ads tell you. Moderation seems to be such an easy thing to say, but still hard to do, no matter how good it is for a person.
Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

my 2 cents...for what it's worth Once I started eating healthy my body adjusted to running better and when I go back to overindulging...especially on food that is far more greasy and has a lot of carbs...I feel the effects even more. Before I changed to a healthy lifestyle, I was used to feeling sluggish, stuffed, and having crazy cravings....now when I eat processed foods or foods that cause my blood sugar to spike, I notice the effect immediately. It takes a few days to reverse the negative affects.
No such thing as "bad food" when eaten in moderation. To put it simply, you made poor choices, but don't beat yourself up over it..its ok...it happens and I am guilty of the same many times during my foodstyle change. Use this as a learning experince and remember how you felt the next time your tempted...bet you'll make a better choice!

there is a well known drive-in in Atlanta (kind of a landmark - The Varsity) that specializes in chili dogs and onion rings. My older sis still LOVES to eat there. Just the thought makes me feel queasy. The last time I did eat there, I felt absolutely awful for several days.
One of my FB friends was eating there earlier in the week. I told her she was such a youngster - no way could I eat that!
once you're system gets away from processing junk, it just can't do it any more.
on the bright side, knowing how lousy I will feel makes it easier to decline
Once you've made the change to healthy real whole food the "food products" that are sold everywhere can make you feel awful when you eat them. That crappy feeling is a good reminder of why you should eat healthy - to be healthy and feel awesome!

Yesterday I was invited by an old work mate to join her and her children for pizza at a kids eat for free night. I also had some running around to do, which involved going to Walmart. This is where my first mistake happened. I ended up buying a can of butter cookies. I had a couple. Then a couple more. Then I noticed an entire row had been consumed. I put them away. Dinner was still a few hours away. I ended up eating a few more. Then came the pizza. I have been so good about eating healthier the past two months until yesterday. I probably ended up eating an entire large pizza. I felt sooooo full. I had to take something for indigestion for the first time in months. I felt so crappy, I woke up 4 hours early and couldn't go back to sleep. I've been feeling crappy all day. I immediately understood why. This is what bad foods do to your poor system. I've also been insatiably hungry today. The first month of my change of eating habits plan, I was eating just plant based foods and seafood. I was never hungry or craving anything. I'm ready to get back on board. It only took this one instance to understand. Any one else feel like this when they get off the plan?
