I don't think I made any assumptions about anyone, My vent was about how some ones decision to dress inappropriately interfered with my plans. I had hoped to finish our Christmas shopping, spend time with hubby away from everyone else and maybe talk him into dinner out somewhere. The last time we had dinner out was over 3 months ago.

I don't care what you wear. That is your choice. Just don't expect others to "pay" for your mistakes/stupidity, whatever you want to call it.

In this town, if you don't have a coat there 2 dozen agencies/rescue groups and service clubs that will give you one. All you have to do is show up and take one. They are well advertised.

My husband is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He will give you the coat off his back. I'm a B____ and say tough luck, dress appropriately next time. He gave her a ride, with my agreement, because otherwise we would have never heard the end of it. "Oh, I ran into warmly dressed at the mall and had to ride the bus home when I was freezing".

Our mall is weird, half of it is indoors and the other half is open air. If you want to leave your coat in the car that's fine. I do it too. But when out in the open section, dress to be comfortable.

There is noway my husband would of left me at the mall and given this friend a ride home or his coat. If she's not smart enough to wear appropriate clothing in December that's on her and I wouldn't of felt bad for her at all.

Starting to like the new me!
Waiting for my garden to come to life!

Sure, but you can wear a short skirt with tall boots and tights in the winter. Still sexy, somewhat less ridiculous.

No, but a lot of men find skirts and shorts sexier than huge coats - that make you look like a marshmallow.

She wasn't venting about how she was dressed. She was venting about the woman wanting her husbands coat. And her scarf and gloves. And then on top of that getting the husband to leave and take her home.

Many people can handle dressing a certain way and to each their own. Just don't dress in a
t-shirt and then expect your friends to hand over their cold weather gear.

I would have told her that she can go to Starbucks and get some hot chocolate. Then she can have a ride home when I am done shopping.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

The problem wasn't the clothes she was wearing... the problem was that she asked for your husband's coat and also asked him to take her home (who does that? :S).

There's nothing wrong with people wanting to wear short shorts in the snow, of course it's sexy lol... I mean, if they look good in summer they will look good in winter too... as long as they don't 'bother' anyone else, who cares?

Not everyone needs a heavy parka in cold weather to feel warm but if you know you tend to get cold and it is cold out then you should wear clothing which will keep you comfortable.
People should think ahead and dress appropriately for the conditions. I think people should not expect to be "saved" by others if they made a poor choice.
If you are at a mall, find yourself feeling cold and you have the means then you could buy warmer clothes, hot coffee or wait until your friend is done shopping rather than expecting a ride home immediately or taking someone else's coat off of them. Malls are heated buildings. You won't freeze to death even if you are uncomfortable for a short time.
I don't think it is okay to expect guys to give up their coats just because they are men and you can't be bothered to dress appropriately.
My dh was telling me about a time he went to the movie theater with his mother (a woman who is sensitive to cold) and he wore a coat but she said she would be fine without one. In the theater she, of course, became cold and wanted his coat because she was cold.

It seems that getting a man to "save" them is part of the point.

So vapid.

A few years ago, while heading home from work, I passed by a couple who were obviously going out for a date. Both were dressed in fancy clothes. The woman was wearing spiked high heels, LBD and a velvet shawl wrapped around her shoulders. The man was dressed in nice suit and overcoat. What was wrong with that picture ? The clothing would have been appropriate for most nights. Except, that night, the streets were covered in several inches of SLUSH as a result of a Nor'easter that had passed through the area. So, there was a young woman trying to cross slush covered streets in SPIKED heels. I think she was half expecting the guy to carry her across. I'm glad he didn't. LOL !

Mind you, that was not the first time I had seen grown women wearing high heels in rotten weather. I understand that LL Bean boots are not exactly date night shoes, but when the streets are covered with several inches of slush, they should be.

I rarely wear a coat into a shopping mall, no matter how cold it is inside. Frankly I don't want to have to carry it or wear it and be hot. I leave it in the car, and am grateful for the remote starter so that my car is warm by the time I get back to it. I get strange looks all the time, but then people look at me differently when I'm not trying to juggle my coat, purse, etc. to get my wallet out to pay for something.
Also, what one person considers inappropriate for the weather might not be what someone else considers inappropriate for the weather. Consider how each person feels the temperature. I have several friends who wear shorts year round (one in MI, the other in MN!). They both only get sneakers out if the show is above their ankles. They're rarely cold. Making an assumption about people because of how they're dressed bothers me. What if they couldn't afford a winter coat and are doing the best they can?

People who dress inappropriately for the weather while out shopping are...well...special. But at least they have a car nearby that they can walk to. People who dress inappropriately while out hiking and whatnot really piss me off because they're the ones who probably have to get rescued because of the elements.

sometimes folks who live in cold climates are more acclimated to them. I remember going to visit XH's family in Iowa for Christmas. Most of the locals were wearing jeans & short sleeved t-shirts.

BUT - it's always a good idea to be prepared. I rarely wear my coat in the winter, but I always have it in the car in case I need it.

It has really shocked me this year the number of girls I see around campus wearing crop pants with their snow boots (or crop pants and ballet flats), with coats unzipped and skin still showing when it's 2 degrees outside. It just doesn't seem worth it to me. But then I'd rather be warm than "cute".

Everyone always laughs at me for wearing shorts year-round, but that's the way it is in Arizona. It could be freezing in the morning, and then warm up to 80 in the afternoons during our winter months.

Arizona fashion: Summer, Spring and Fall -- Shorts, T-shirts, Sandles or Sports Shoes. Winter -- Shorts, T-shirts, Sweatshirt or Hoodie, Sports Shoes.

So, most of us here layer up so we can shed the clothes during the on-going day. I'd do the same if I were in cold country.

As for your husband, what a nice guy. You should have accompanied them, however.

LadyCJM, I had to laugh at your vent, I think you had cause to be ticked at your husband. I hope he now understands what not to do emoticon You are right it is not smart or sexy to come out dressed inappropriately for the weather, especially, if you hope someone will rescue you if the going gets tough. I often see the women and young girls in my town poorly or barely dressed for the weather, it makes me scratch my head and wonder if they would know to come out of the pouring rain.

I live in FL so I wear shorts a good portion of the winter. I only have one pair of jeans and a light jacket but I get them out when it turns 50 degrees out.

I had to laugh at the end of your vent. But it is true. Even below zero weather I've seen people with shorts and short sleeves on that make me feel colder then I already am, and here I am bundled up in three layers with boots, hat and scarf and mittens. I know some of them say it's because they are hotblooded, and don't need these things, but seriously when the wind is blowing, and the snow is falling at least put pants and sweat shirt on. However if they don't complain that it's cold too each his own, unless they open a window on the bus, that's when I complain. Hope you got your Christmas shopping done.

to dress inappropriately for the current weather conditions! And then complain about being cold. Or wanting to borrow my hubby's jacket so he can be cold. Or want me to "share" my hat and gloves and scarf because I will have my coat to keep me warm.

We went shopping and ran into a friend who was "freezing". She didn't think she would need her coat, that her jeans and T shirt would be fine. Wanted my hubby's coat so she could stay warm. He ended up leaving me and giving her a ride home. Ticked me off....Do you have any idea how hard it is to get my hubby to go Christmas shopping in the first place?????

I can not believe the number of people, both male and female who think wearing shorts and T shirts in a snow storm is okay. Yesterday I saw a young lady in short shorts, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes, no socks. Her friend was wearing jeans, sandals, tank top and a gauzy shirt over the tank. One of the guys they were with was wearing shorts and a sweat jacket. The other one was a jacket and boots and a knit cap. They were walking around an open shopping mall and guess which 3 are complaining about being cold?

People, when the average daytime temperature is 20 degrees and it is below zero at night you need to wear warm clothes, a jacket, a hat, gloves, boots and whatever else you might need to stay warm.

Thank you, I feel better now!
