It was the same old thing over and over again. I'd make New Years Resolutions to quit smoking and start exercising. New Years day would come and go and so would my resolutions. This time would be different. I quit smoking at the beginning of December and started exercising at the end of the month. Don't wait till January 1st, you maybe disappointed if you do

I belong to several other weight loss and health sites, and ANY time someone "new" appears, with huge plans and promises to semi starve, etc., it is always going to be a big FAIL.......this time of year is ripe for that kind of thing though. I'm 67 years old, these promises will always be made by someone, that is just the way it is.............at least, most of us have been at this for many times or many years, so it ain't anything new and scary anymore.
Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

I understand everything you're saying. I'm very involved in the site because I'm retired now and have a little more time.I don't use their menus anymore, but eat foods that are comparable or in the same food group. I am looking forward to starting over in the New Year. Something about a new start is very motivational. I don't weight often either because I can't get excited about a 1/4 pound loss. Congratulations on your success so far!
The only "diet" that works is consistency!

I am already thinking of how I can improve my life in 2014. 2013 I started following SP & have used and loved many of the recipes, I have changed my eating habits. I was wearing a 1x and now the XL is getting loose. I have only 2 pair of jeans in my closet that are too small, and were when I bought them.
I hate tracking my food and don't do it because I spend more time trying to find the food in the SP tracker than I do eating the food. In 2014 I will track at least 1 meal a day & all snacks. I do not formally exercise, but have been painting the inside of my house from top to bottom & when I finish I will join a gym. Also I think I will start weighing myself. I have not done this since Oct because in the past it makes me depressed and then I go back to old habits. I have been monitoring my loss by my clothes - which actually works for me.
I am interested in reading other people thoughts for 2014 so I can incorporate other ideas into my goals.

One of the advantages to being on SparkPeople now is, we have a jump on all the New Year newcomers. Not that its a competition, but it does feel pretty good to work on our health right now. Plus, I think if we wait until the New Year, and make big promises, we really won't keep them. What do you think?
