Originally, it was to reduce the risk of becoming diabetic by the time I was 40. I also wanted to look and feel better. I have lost a good deal of weight and still have some to lose, but my reasons are a little different (of course, my original reasons are still relevant). Now, I can add to my list of reasons - to be better able to do work in my chosen field (wildlife biology/ecology) and to continue being an awesome cat mom for my cat.

At my last visit with my doctor she told me that if I lost the weight she would take me off all my medications and that I would have no problems with diabetes,high blood pressure and other health problems my weight has caused. So that is why.

So many reasons. My # 1 reason is to improve my health! I also want to be able to look in the mirror and think, I look great in that dress, those pants, that top. I want to feel fit. I want to participate in more things and feel comfortable in my body.

Well, honestly because I'm not happy with my appearance; I just don't feel comfortable in my clothes! But more importantly, because I know I should be eating healthier and exercising more consistently than I have been over the past couple of years.

Hi, Gerrtie. Congratulations on that initial weight loss and on keeping MOST of it off - never lose sight of that :) :) What probably happened is that the very low calorie level probably made your metabolism slow way down. I suggest finding a happy medium in terms of caloric level that is good for your personal weight loss (or I can help you out there if you want to post your height, weight, age, and physical activity level), and get your body used to normal amounts of food. You can also give yourself a boost by adjusting your physical activity - if you do very little, then find ways to sneak some in (there are some great videos on this site) and if you have been doing a moderate amount, find ways to make changes to work new muscles and/or introduce a few bursts of intensity (30 seconds each) here and there. Examples might be jogging for 30 secodss every 5 minutes during a walk, or 30 seconds of walking uphill etc.

In Nov. 2008 I began my healthier eating plan because I had 102 lbs to loose, because I am diabetic. It took me 13 months at 1250 calories for me to do it. But I did it. I have been regulating my diabetes through exercise and eating right, but over the years I have put back on 15 lbs.. I want to take it off, but am finding it is very hard for me to stick within my calories. It must have been the grace of God carrying me through that initial 13 months, cuz I certainly am not having any luck with doing it on my own! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks... emoticon

The obvious reason, to look and feel better about myself. I also want to be able to travel more comfortably. Most importantly, I want to be there and be able to be more active with the children I love. Right now that means my nephews and nieces, but will include any future children I want or will have.

Starting weight: 309.4
1st goal: 10.4 pounds, 299 by July 2, 2014 (met June 25th)
2nd goal: 30 pounds- 10% of remaining weight, 269 by October 15, 2014 (met September 24th)
3rd goal: 27 pounds- 10% of remaining weight, 242 by January 7, 2015

I want to lose weight for the following reasons:
To be kinder to my knees and low back.
To fit comfortably in any seat and not have my arms overflow into the space of those seated next to me.
To no longer be short of breath when I walk distances.
To be able to climb stairs much more easily.
To be able to shop for clothes and ENJOY the experience.
To be able to put on shoes and tie or buckle them without displacing all internal organs.
To see my face in the mirror without the pelican pouch chin.

I've been varying degrees of fat all my life. I finally just got sick of it. I want better health, I want to be able to shop in "normal" stores. I want to lose weight to improve my overall total health (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual), lower my stress & anxiety levels, fit into a smaller size in clothing so I can wear my styles, and to enhance my self-confidence.

I want to lose weight for the same reason I carry it, I think. Because it is a sad and emotional thing to always be the biggest one in a photo. I feel good and am finally feeling my old self 3 yrs after 2 hip replacements. I want to look better and get my cholesterol and sugar number into the healthy range.

I lost weight to feel better and to be able to walk and run and climb stairs without a problem. I wanted healthy!

I have RA so the more weight I can get off the better I will feel. Along with losing the fat I need to strengthen my muscles to help my joints more.

Immediately I thought "So I can be happy." After analyzing this response, I've decided that happiness is not dependent on my weight but on my attitude. I want to lose weight so that I can be proud of myself for achieving my life long goal.

My doctor advises that if I lose weight, I have a better chance of warding off diabetes, and some other life style diseases which I have not had .

There are MANY reason, but I'll give you the one answer that will incur the least amount of judgement: My knees and back can't take much more. I want to be in better physical shape and just feel better.

I've posted on this thread about wanting to be fit for my wedding day. That's just two months away- I'm also starting to look beyond it to starting a family. That's probably reason no. 2 for now.

When I started January 1st I wanted to be healthier and move easier but in February I was diagnosed with high blood sugar and was passing out so now my focus is getting the blood sugar down. I have lost 30 pounds with SP but still have hypoglycemic episodes - no passing out though!

I want to look better and feel better and hopefully live longer. I want to regain my self confidence and strength to move around and not be out of breath. I want to stop feeling ashamed of my body and stop being embarrassed to be seen in public. I want to let people take pictures of me instead of avoiding the camera.
