By eliminating soda and increasing my water intake, I feel so much better. Even today while I am feeling the effects of a head cold, I am able to focus.

Always a lesson, never a mistake.

emoticon I notice changes almost daily--I was hard-hit by arthritis in my hands for the past year, and being off processed sugar for three weeks has eliminated about 80% of the pain in my hands! Even only 3-4 days into this plan, I noticed how well I slept--and that I no longer needed an antacid in the evening. Yesterday when I went for my monthly massage, the therapist found no knots (even none in my shoulders and neck!), and no part of the massage was painful, which is unusual! Every day I notice another positive difference. I never feel bloated. I feel happier throughout the day.

With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.

Honestly......taking negative people out of my life....as hard as it is and was...I don''t let
anyone good friend/old friend/ suck the life out of me anymore.

I control the negativity in my life...people, enviroments, news, etc.

I practice the power of positive thought and use a vision board for goals!

Strength training literally strengthened my muscles, eliminating roughly 90% of my body pains. When my friends at work feel like walking somewhere to order food at lunch time, I can actually go with them now !

Cardio strengthened my heart and lungs significantly. I used to bring an inhaler to the gym for exercise-induced asthma. In the first few weeks of personal training, my trainer would routinely watch me try to catch my breath and ask "Do you need your inhaler ?" He doesn't ask anymore.

Blogging on SparkPeople helped me make new friends, and their positive reinforcement has helped me so much. I tried going it alone SO many times and always failed. Having people who care about me, support me and BELIEVE in me, and being there for them too ... that has made me a much happier person.

I used to think of myself as lazy and doomed to be obese. I feel so different now ! By taking active steps to improve my life, my confidence and self-esteem are much better. I now know I'm not lazy or trapped. I can do this !

Working out my emotions either on the trail or at the gym instead of in front of the fridge has made quite a difference for me.
My mood is more stabilized, I have more energy, and little everyday irritants don't bother me the way they used to do.

Great topic! The single most important change that has improved my life is exercising every morning on the treadmill for at least 50 minutes. I watch a show that I enjoy while I'm on the treadmill, and the combination of enjoying a favorite show (right now it's _Sons of Anarchy_) and getting my heart rate up have done WONDERS for my stress level as well as getting my day off to the best start! It reminds me that there is more to life than work, and I honor myself and my body by exercising and treating myself to some engaging entertainment! I am hungry afterwards and eat a healthy breakfast (something I often skipped before). I then get ready, taking pride in my appearance. This change, along with changing my eating patterns (thanks to Spark!!!), has made my 106-pound loss possible. I am excited as I continue on my journey to lose the last 55 pounds!

Renewing, strengthening, and creating friendships by inviting others to join us in the outdoor activities that my husband and I enjoy. Thus far this year, we have gone hiking, walking, running, kayaking and/or camping with friends and/or family. We've also made an effort to socialize more in general, and it has really enriched our lives.

I have cut out a late afternoon snack when I come home from work. I was consuming about 300 or 400 calories and then eat dinner. Now, I am drinking a large cup of tea when I come home from work instead! If I am really hungry, I try to eat something low fat.

Home cooking. This not only has helped with "weight related" issues such as being more able to control portion sizes, fat content etc., it has helped enable me to enjoy REALLY GOOD food - sure I invest more time in shopping/prep/cooking but it is SO worth it. No matter whatever happens with my weight over the course of the rest of my life, I hope i never go back to "lazy reliance on convenience/processed/prepackages/fast-food homogeneous junk. I can do so much better (and at a lesser cost too, even if i buy the primo quality raw ingredients) when i'm willing to take control of the process of feeding me.

Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**

The routine of bringing my lunch and snacks to work from home.

They are weighed/measured, so there's portion control. They're healthier than what I would eat if I went out to eat. The foods are right at my desk, so I don't have to venture to the vending machine or any outside stores/restaurants and tempt myself with bad choices for lunch or post-lunch snack purchases.

I thought I'd be unhappy (i.e., bored) with the foods I bring from home, but I find the routine comforting and it's good to know that a good portion of my workday & workweek meals are very structured. I'm not faced with making choices, wondering what I'll eat.

For me it has also been exercise and mindful eating! I lucked out when I moved last to move into a neighborhood with more stores, what this means is I shop more regularly and walk more regularly (instead of buying in so much bulk, I shop pretty much every day for the small things I need). The mindful eating I've been working on for a while and it is it's own reward as well as it has actually helped with weight loss over the past three months (I've finally gotten it down to a near art).

Eating wise: going vegetarian. What a difference it's made! It's forced me to read labels and eat much, much more cleanly.

Physically: finding physical activities that are FUN so exercise doesn't feel like a chore. :)

Cooking more (and eating less processed foods as a result, though I do still have some) and getting to a healthy weight for the first time in my adult life. For awhile, I was content at 25-30 lbs overweight (down from 100+lbs), but I was wrong - I feel so much better and stronger now.

Also, 1.5 years ago, I changed jobs from a high stress, mentally and emotionally draining position with no support to a sometimes stressful position with lots of support. Best, healthiest decision that I ever made. May have taken me a year to find where I'm at now, but the difference is amazing.

Cutting out diet soda had an impact on my health. For a very long time, I had adult acne. Figured it was something I would have to deal with. Well. when I gave up diet coke and soda, after a few weeks, I noticed my skin cleared up significantly.

What has improved my life ? I'd say losing 50+ pounds and keeping it off for several years has helped improve my life significantly. I'm sure yo yo dieting didn't help my health.

Without a doubt: eating 7-9 servings of veggies and fruit every day.
It has enabled the weight loss project to go waaaaay smoother; I've kept most of it off relatively easily & for the longest period of time heretofore. Plus, I hardly ever get colds anymore. I think it just really improves one's health all the way around.

There is a time & $ investment in finding what you like, the best places to buy the best tasting stuff & the proper storage & prep involved, but it's SO worth the payoff.

Also cutting way down on alcohol. I'd rather spend the calories on food!

Taking myself in hand with regards to bed times and being up and dressed in the mornings. I'm still not brilliant but I'm getting more disciplined and this gives me more time during the day. Also cutting out computer games - though I still have a tendency to go back to this and can easily get 'hooked' again.

I think measuring my food and learning what a true portion is! It is too easy to just spoon an oversized portion of food on to a plate!

Losing down to my present weight recently. Although I've been at a healthy weight for a long time, I discerned this year that my joints do better when I am much lighter than I previously thought and a huge goal of mine is to stay active and pain free throughout the remainder of my life (and not have to replace anything). The impact of just the long walks I habitually take is considerably less at my present weight, so that's where I'm going to stay and that has significantly improved my life.

Resolved in 2014 to remain below 120!

Alongside a healthier diet and exercise, what changes (big or small) have you made that have improved your life them most? Thanks!
