Tracking, slower eating and ditching all-or-nothing thinking, as in: I can't get in my usual 45 minutes of exercise, so I won't do it. Now, I do whatever I can squeeze in when I can't do the amount I want. Something is always better than nothing. :)

the best thing that has happened to me diet-wise is being able to stop incessant nibbling all day long. I was able to do that after cutting out sugar and all sweet stuff, counting calories and eating bigger portions.
I haven't exercised since the beginning of Dec but my weight has remained constant.

Good idea going to a nutritionist. That will undoubtedly be helpful.

I wrote a post yesterday about my journey, and how the biggest changes I have made have been in my attitude.

As MRS KDB has just said, ridding my unconscious mind of the negative messages that I have been giving myself for years, has been a really good way to change that attitude. Not easy, but well worth the effort. I have to begin a new daily.

In this society, it is suggested on a regular basis that we be judged by how beautiful we are, how thin we are, and if you are not beautiful and thin, you have negative value.

I have been working very hard for the last 6 years to NOT be defined by my weight, or my looks or my age, but by who I am inside.

By trying to change those negative attitudes to a more positive view of me and my life, I am much more optimistic on my journey than I would be by only dieting.

I have dieted all of my life, in fact, I dieted all the way to 333 pounds. Until I worked on how I see myself, I was never able to keep any amount of weight off.

I originally lost 70 pounds, and kept it of for a couple of years. In the last two years and 3 months, I have had three major surgeries and had gained some of the weight back before each surgery. Now that I am so much better structurally, and not in constant pain, I have been able to get all but about 8 pounds back off. I am hoping to make those 8 pounds go away again, so I can once more put the icon that shows 70 pounds lost back on my page.

One day at a time is the only way I can do anything.

MRSKDB

We are on the same page it seems.

I'm just starting out with this journey as far as weight loss and healthy living. But I have come a long way in my mental health. I've been learning to form positive rebuttals to negative thoughts, and slowly I have been changing the way I think. I've also learned that I NEED to take care of myself. It's essential to my mental health. And my physical health contributes in large part to my mental health, which is no small part of why I am taking care of it now.

Although I haven't mastered tracking I made a decision to stop gaining weight once I reached my all time high of 240. I have been exercising to maintain my weight. I just need to get a grip on the "eating" part of it. Tomorrow I meet with a nutritionist at the clinic. I am hoping she can point me in the right direction.

I am noticing that there are several of you, (have not read all of the posts), who feel as I do that the most important change I have made is to work to rid my mind of the self doubt, low self esteem, etc that result from all of the negative messages I give myself unconsciously. It is still difficult for me to keep on top of those horrible things I have said to myself for at least 55 years. I am better, but I do have to be vigilant.

No matter what I eat, or how much I exercise if I feel that I am unworthy, I am still playing a losing hand.

Working on living one day at a time, one small change at a time, and congratulating myself for the victories and forgiving myself for the blips seems to help me to fight the food cravings and the sluggish attitude that keeps me from moving.

Spark People, and all of the support from others here, has also helped recognize my own positives.

I really feel that SP and the encouragement from posts from others and messages from SP has actually saved my life.

Wishing all of you well on your own individual journeys!

Cooking proper meals and sharing them with friends has made my life better. I might end up eating a little more (and drinking a little more) than i should, but i have an after-glow that makes for better sleep and gives me a reason to get up in the morning.

I feel better when I am putting real food with actual nurtitional value and water into my body instead of fast food and soda or starbuck's coffee which has about 500 calories per cup. I really feel that it's a great trade even if you aren't losing any weight at all.

The change that I made in my life in this world that has made the biggest difference is cancelling the meeting of the negative committee that formerly met inside my head.
And the food they would eat! And lazy!
I encourage anyone who has such a committee meeting to cancel it and change the locks on the doors. Post a guard there, too, as this is a persistent committee, always working to find a way back in.

Since I started tracking my exercise and food. It makes me aware of what I can do for myself and what has made me lose control. The support is amazing. Thank you.

The manner in which I choose my food, and what I choose. I have learned that eating certain foods can even change a disorder, condition, and yes even a disease. Food can help to rid or put at bay Inflammation, which can and has (for me at least) helped me to be able to move around more and more easily depending on what sort of food consumption I have. Ex; sweets in inhibit the progress of inflammation that in turn inhibits and at time totally immobilizes me so that I am totally unable to do any sort of exercise and sometimes to the point where I am unable to move. I am so glad I am back on track and not having my black licorice binges !! emoticon

Inches Inches Inches lost are more important to me than pounds... :) well POUNDS ARE STILL IMPORTANT NOT AS MUCH AS INCHES THOSE SHOW THE REAL PROGRESS AND THAT IS A HEALTHIER WAY TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT!!

In July I went to a nutritionist & finally got on a solid eating plan that worked for me . I eat 3 meals & 3 snacks & have protein with all 6 meals & snacks. I limit carbs & bread , but eat tons of fresh healthy food & take some good supplements. I've incorporated more weight training and limit cardio to 3X a week . All of this combined has gotten me to my goal weight and %12 body fat for the first time in my life - woohoo! Im 46 & have hypothyroidism , so if I can do it anyone can with hard work & consistency.

As difficult as we all know it is, changing my mind set, has benefited me the most. I don't look at food the same anymore and when I am thinking correctly I understand we only need to eat when we are hungry.

Every change has been a blessing but I'd have to say the best changes were internal ones....my attitude, my outlook, and my confidence.
Once I had those down everything else in my life just started to fall into place.

Most recently, changing jobs (I will start my new job 1/6/14) has been the best change for me. It coincided with my niece starting a month-long cardio challenge and having my doc add blood pressure med to what I'm already taking for diabetes, depression & cholesterol. Ugh!

Giving up alcohol once and for all. I'm shocked and almost embarrassed at how easy it was and how little I miss it. I could have done this years ago and saved myself about 60 gazillion empty calories and some bad Monday mornings. By the time I found me and myself in intense contract negotiations with each other ("Okay, I'll limit myself to one glass of wine a day, except on major holidays when I might have two, except when we're entertaining and then .... blah blah blah") I realized it was time to put on my big girl pants and just STOP.

My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people. ~Orson Welles

I have only been on this site for a week and I would have to say several: tracking my food and workouts, drinking 8 glasses of water, working out daily, being mindful of what I eat, and making my portions smaller!

I know that I can do anything that I put my mind to and then some! I will reach my goal weight!
