I will not track every bite, but will be conscious of what I am eating and in what amounts.

I didn't track on Thanksgiving, but I was mindful of what I ate, probably the same on Christmas and New Years.

I used to think of The Holidays as running from Thanksgiving to New Years...about 7 weeks long, and I'd always gain 5 pounds. I've switched to thinking of The Holidays as just those 3 days. If I was Jewish I'd have Thanksgiving, Hannakuh (did I spell that right?) and New Years.

It's not a free fall for me anymore, and I lost 2 pounds since Thanksgiving, which is exactly my monthly goal.

The best exercise in the world is to bend down and help someone up.

I have been sporadically tracking, at least a couple of times a week. I have to remind myself to make time for it, though. It really does help keep me in check. So far, I have not gained anything, and I hope to keep it that way. :)

If I didn't track then I could count on a ten to fifteen pound gain by January 1rst. So I am going to track.

It is fantastic if someone is able to do mindful eating. I have tried that from time to time. My brain thinks, Mindful eating = Free for all. Never fails.

I don't feel bad if I go over my calories sometimes. Like last Saturday I had some pizza and a Cannoli. I didn't feel like a failure at all. Just have to be mindful to not have to many pizza Saturdays

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

Beulah is a heck of a lot smarter than I am! :) Being smart enough to figure out at 5#s over that you need to make changes is really good The mentality needed to lose 5#s is a whole lot different than what is needed to lose 100#s.

I think that people who "get it", the whole watch what you eat and work out and don't over indulge can skip on tracking. Some people, either through good parenting, genetics or good education or all of the above are able to know what they can eat and how much almost instinctively. I'm hoping that sometime in the future I will be able to do that.

I have reached the point where I can pass up the junk food in the breakroom about 95% of the time!

I always track my food, however, I'm going on vacation soon for 2 weeks and will not have access to a computer. I know my calories very well and will have to estimate every day.

I track my food always, so I'll know my problem areas & be responsible for my health & well-being! Plus I can see how many calories I am taking in versus going out~

Enjoyed reading all the posts. Just wondering what other people do; not looking for affirmation. Everyone must do what they need to do for themselves. I did not have much weight to lose and have never been an over-eater, especially of unhealthy foods. I realized from reading the posts that some people may have grown dependent on counting calories, etc. If you need this tool to help you, great. I realized I don't. What I should focus on is exercise. Not losing weight exercise, but being fit to live a quality life exercise. Blessings of the Season to all and I hope you reach and maintain your goals, using whatever tools you need to do it.

I track to the best estimate. There may be a day where I just lose track, but if I don't at least try to keep on it, then I can't make adjustments to try to stay close.

Since I've been in maintenance, I don't track my food. BUT I am mindful of my portion sizes. I do indulge, but I try not to over indulge too much.

What I've learned over the years is that one less than perfect day or two of eating will not make or break my healthy lifestyle. As long as I am eating right most of the time (which I do), I don't fret over days I may eat a little more than I should. Those days are now few and far between. And when I do over eat, it's not as bad as when I was over weight.

I really have changed my mindset when it comes to eating. So, as long as I watch my portion sizes and do my best to eat right, I don't need to track.

I think the difference for me is that I do not see days that I have gone over calories as fail days.

I am aware of what I am eating and made a choice to eat it. For me this is a success. I am not mindlessly eating. I am not eating something just because it is there. I am in control, I am responsible.

Some days I go over a bit because I am really hungry. maybe because my choices earlier in the day weren't so great or maybe I worked out harder than normal.

But because it is my choice, it's not a failure. It was a decision that I made based on my day or week.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm tracking for the next fortnight, though I did stop tracking halfway through the day yesterday when I went out to a friend's house. In two weeks time I go to London to my sister's for a week. I'll just have a Google nexus tablet and tracking won't be so easy - besides - it brings us back to the question 'Is this a diet or a healthy lifestyle?' For me, healthy lifestyle involves enjoying Christmas, including some extra treats, but not going mad. And then it will involve coming back home and getting back on track reasonably quickly.

Stopped tracking totally. Makes me feel like a failure if I'm a litttle over calorie limit or if I eat a candy bar.. I go by how my stomach feels and try to eat at scheduled times.

How are you watching intake and nutrition if you are not tracking? That makes no sense.

There are no holidays happening right now...are you going to spend the next month cheating? I can see not tracking on the DAY OF a holiday or for one meal, but skipping it for the whole month sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Even if you don't want to enter every ingredient for every dish, generally you can find a close analog and choose that in your tracker in order to estimate.

If other people are doing it, does that make it OK?

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

I know it is extremely time consuming listing all the ingredients and figuring out all the values for those treats but I have been doing it and tracking whatever I indulge in. I started this process in mid-October which for some might be an odd time to start but I think it is really helping me get through the biggest food season of the year! I think you just have to be committed to track it even though it is hard. But if you are able to stay focused and don't need to do it for your own sanity, then I say good for you! I feel I need to do it to keep me straight and to not try and fool myself. I am going to my son's graduation in two weeks and will have to eat out for 4 days as it is out of town and I am a little nervous. My goal will be to eat grilled chicken, salads and something healthy for breakfast. If I can come back from that without gaining or even losing a pound I will be very happy! Then it will be almost Christmas and another challenge! emoticon emoticon

I don't track my food on Spark anymore, I just jot it down on notepad and keep rough estimates of my calorie intake. When I did, I didn't track for holidays and every other Saturday. Every other Saturday we go to my in laws for lunch and dinner and it was always a free-from-tracking day.

As far as holidays go, an extended holiday like the winter holidays... I would choose certain days I didn't track, not the entire holidays. Like; Christmas Eve and Christmas, the rest of the time I would keep track.

Any weight I do gain is mostly fluid weight and gone a week later. I still lost 58 lbs in 8 months.

I agree Credwards--Total bummer ( especially when I added how much I ate yesterday!! ) but it really helps keep me on tract also--because of how bad I saw I did yesterday I was determined not to overdo it today, so it helps and when I get to doing good everyday, I am hoping it will be a encouragement to keep on doing good!! One day at a time!!

I plan to track my calories over the holidays. You can go to the recipes on SP for help with your holiday food. It can be tough, but like the others, I like to know what the calorie counts are for what I am eating.

I plan to enjoy the holidays, but not over do it!

Not tracking during the holidays makes no sense to me. With all of the high calorie foods around it would be diet suicide for me.

It's not that difficult to look things up and it keeps me aware of what I'm taking in. I need to know that 3 pieces of my homemade divinity are 100 calories. I need to know that I oz of fudge is 130 calories. I need to know that the home made eggnog with a splash is 300 calories.

It would be too easy to go over my daily allotment if I didn't track. And that would mean pounds regained that I would struggle to lose again.

The thought of it does seem overwhelming, but I track everything, no matter the occasion. I do see your point though. Watching my intake and nutrition alone doesn't work for me personally, so I have to at least try to keep track of my calories through the holidays. It's kinda a bummer, but totally worth it, to keep me in check.
