Whenever there's a family gathering, I always over do it, even if just a little. The food is always so delicious!

Have to agree with office parties/events. They have one at work every month and people bring in a lot of food and treats. If you don't participate people start asking and if you say you are watching what you eat the endless "it's just one", "you only live once", "a little bit won't kill you" and I just start feeling defensive.

I agree. Anything where there's an expectation of eating. I honestly don't mind not eating and just socializing, but it becomes a warning sign and the news spreads. All of a sudden people are on me like hornets asking me why Im not eating, and what do I want to eat, if Im on a diet, and other embarrassing questions about why I can't just stuff my face and enjoy their company.

I think all the holiday baking is a major one! … We were short on funding this year so we decided to make cookie packs as the majority of our gift giving. So the leftovers (5-6 different types) are left and then a few people gave us baked goods as a Christmas present.. ….

I also think all of the holiday stress like getting to everywhere you need to be and the weather all play a part.. I also think the holidays sometimes make it harder to work out as normal because schools are out and kids are home and you are running around everywhere!

Baking cookies. Since my grandmother passed away, I have taken over the making cookie plates for Christmas. One year I counted and I literally make over 1000 cookies in a couple of days.

Thankfully it's only a couple of days, and I give away almost all of the cookies -and I make sure I give away all of my favorites and save the rest for my kids.

For me, it was holiday grazing. Everyone we met or had dinner with put on a spread of appetizers before the big meal. Though it was tough staying away from the buffet table, when I did, I chose from the foods that I thought were the lowest in calories and the healthiest in ingredients. In other words, I ate from the fruit and veggie plate more often then I did from the hors d'oeuvres trays but I wasn't happy about it.

Maybe you can introduce them to Silk Creamers. I haven't conquered my creamy coffee habit but the Silk Creamers are not as caloric as the other types of flavored creamers. I like the French Vanilla and it's 20 cal a Tbs. vs about 40 cal a Tbs with the regular flavored creamers.
I've also switched from a coffee mug to a tea cup to use less creamer but keep my preferred blend. I'm a mess without coffee but maybe I can wean off of it.

It's the disruption to my routine that causes the problem. No set mealtimes as tend to be up half the night and not rising til 10am. Trying to fit in all the family / friend visits often means eating on the run, extra grazing or picking up a takeaway on way home. I only had desert twice over the holidays and haven't touched the huge quantity of goodies I received as gifts yet still managed to gain 3lbs. I'm glad to be back at work today and am going to make a more conscious effort to avoid eating after 8pm from now on... Happy New Year to all!!!

True. That's why I'm glad I didn't have time to do that this year. It's probably the number one reason why I (miraculously) didn't gain any weight this Christmas, not that I wasn't already overweight enough to begin with.

I know what you mean, Dustyprairie, my mother is always baking all types of fresh bread, and in fact, lastnight when I came home from work she had a fresh, warm loaf sitting out. Against my better judgement I had a slice, and then another! I went to bed thinking I'd blown it for sure, but when I tallied my calories for the day, I was miraculously ok. I've been finding that for me at least, if I pare down the calories earlier in the day, and skip some of the 'treats' I've gotten used to allowing myself, there's room for a few sins later on, not that I plan on those either. But working as a nurse/caregiver I often have to eat on the fly, and I don't always have time to pack my lunch at home.

Holiday baking kills my healthy diet. I used to bake for about 3 weeks around Christmas. Now, I baked a single batch each of our 5 favorite cookies the weekend before Christmas and they are all long gone. Better, but I still pigged out on them for a few days. The traditional candy at Christmas - chocolate kisses, candy canes, etc. call my name. And lastly, we eat out a lot the week of Christmas/New Years - running around, treating ourselves and using gift cards means lots of eating out (and indulgence)!

What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.

Baking I love it, but I have to share what I make, or I regret the extra lbs. that come from not sharing. Those Holiday dinners get me every time. Buffet style restraunts I stay away from, I'm not strong enough to fill my plate 1 time, I usually stuff myself, feeling totally miserable and regretting have eaten that much.

I'm with LKENNICOTT. Its impossible to bake and not sample. Or when your child brings you a cookie and says "Here Mama. For you!". Or you walk in the house and start drooling from the scent. Yup :). That's been my bane.

Why do we try so hard to be like everyone else, when we were born to be unique?

Definitely visiting family up north! I do well at the parties, there is plenty to keep me occupied and distracted. I pace myself pretty well and can choose the healthiest foods available.

But, those long quiet times while we are just sitting around and visiting leads me to picking up all those holiday snack foods that are lying around. My mom and my in-laws always have tables just full of cookies and candies and chips..oh my!

When staff brings leftover, usually sweets, to the break room. Damn temptation!

The fact that this is actually holidays for me and that I have all these goodies sitting at home in my kitchen. Every time I enter my kitchen I think about food so I have to think of things I can do instead of grabbing whatever I see and chowing down on it.

The alcohol gets me. I let my guard down and eat more when drinking cocktails and wine. But, it's something I look forward to each year and I'll make up for it by abstaining in January.

My downfall - airplane travel and the blue crispy almond TOBLERONES. I love ém, but they're not available in India where I'm currently moored up, so I pig out when I get ém!

Best Regards

Visiting. Everyone plies you with baklava and often fruit juice and alcohol. Imtry to take my doggie box and ask for a knife when visiting people with whom i can get awaymwith it. Christmas dinner with the church on Sunday. Shall try to eat light beforehand and take myself up the mountain, weather permitting to burn off some of the extra calories. At New Years Eve dinner theres much too much meat and alcohol and sweet stuff, but i drink mostly water and doggie box is acceptable. Chips and russian salad add on lots of cals!

Booze. The eating has been fine, mostly, but the drinking oooh man. I had to limit to one per social.

All of the holiday parties -family, work, social groups. Actually, it is not the gatherings so such as it is being polite and tasting
