First thing, First week: I tossed the sodas / carbonated beverages. I bought TWO huge trays of bottled water and haven't looked back! emoticon

i found the times i didnt track was the times my weight stayed the same or upped -- if i tracked i lost and drank water

doing weight loss in 5% per month increments

START 290
290.0 - 5% 14.5 = 275.5 done
275.5 - 5% 13.78 = 261.7 done
261.7 - 5% 13.09 = 248.6 done
248.6 - 5% 12.43 = 236.2

My thinking/attitude. When I set out to do something I tend to be a perfectionist...I'm still learning to let that go because I WILL screw up sometimes. Sometimes I WILL FAIL to do my exercises or I WILL FAIL to eat perfectly right for the day...I have to accept that I'm human and slipping doesn't make me a failure.

You can scream, yell, shout, cry, whimper, grunt, bleed, puke and pass out. JUST DON'T QUIT!

I changed the way I looked at my health, my body and the state of mind that I was in. I realized that I was more than the size on the back of my jeans, but that the amazing body I was given was not being able to be used at the 100 percent it could.

I had to start saying no to offers to eat out with co-workers, no to donuts, no to desserts they brought in and focus on what I could cook that was healthy and tasted good. I also had to find better snacks to have. I found a lot of recipes to help me lose weight in a cookbook called Fix It and Forget It Lightly. Crockpot recipes with lean meat and lots of veggies seasoned well. They gave me portion sizes to measure out, were filling and tasted good! Thats the first thing I changed and weight loss began to follow. emoticon

The first two things that I did was 1) Consume more water and 2) Log my daily intake on the tracker. I must say that I was amazed at how many calories I was adding to my intake because of inappropriate portion sizes and "just a bite of this or that" during the day. Tracking EVERYTHING that went in my mouth was a true "eye opener".

The first thing I did was cut down my portion sizes. I didn't give up any foods, just cut down on how much or how often I would eat it. I wouldn't be happy if I couldn't eat cake, cookies and potato chips, but I can be happy eating less of them.

Started drinking 16oz of water first thing in the morning, and continuing to drink it throughout the day.

I also set a start date, so I had time to prepare - mentally, as well as my kitchen! I had a number of 'last meals' of things that I knew would be toxic in my new lifestyle/ways of eating.

My attitude: I had to believe that I could pursue a new lifestyle and have much joy in doing so. The body follows where the mind leads.

"Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1Timothy4:7-8)

"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:29-30).

The first thing I changed was portion control. I was. amazed at what I thought 1 portion was. In reality, it was more like 2 and a half servings. I have lost 19 lbs. since Jan. 1st, and am confident that I will reach goal and stay there. Thanks sparkpeople,!!!

First things I changed were working out and drinking more water. Didn't want to change food too quickly just because every time I've done that I end up falling off the bandwagon... :/ So this slow process has worked really well for me!

Well besides the attitude :D my first change was cutting back on soda and drinking more water.

Call me Sandy. My goals are reaching and maintaining 120 pounds, running a 5K race and performing 48 push-ups in a minute.

the first thing I changed was my attitude.

First thing I changed was to keep working out even if I hate it and didn't want to get up.

I changed my desires. I had no motivation to change anything until I desired health and activity over over "easy". Once you would rather be healthier than eat that extra, yummy taco, all of the other necessary changes start falling into place.

My attitude needed adjusting to the idea of not eating anything I wanted, once I got my head mind wrapped around that, it was forward moving.

I realized I didn't drink enough water. So in every room I have a bottle of water. In my car I have a bottle of water, sometimes 2, and at work in my locker... yep, water. Don't worry, I have reusable bottles so I also save the environment. With drinking more water, I am not as hungry as I thought I was. I even starting pushing my young kids to drink more water.

The other thing I promised was that I was going to still be able to eat the foods I loved, but in moderation. I know that if I can't have that piece of cake at a birthday party, I am already setting myself up for failure. If I want that 550 calorie McDouble for lunch I can't have fries, I get a salad with a water.

Money is tight in our house, but I put $10 aside for ME to have a membership at Planet Fitness. Thank GOODNESS there is a gym that doesn't kill your wallet! I am there 5 days a week doing something that causes a sweat, and I HATE to sweat. Working out around people motivates me and puts me in check to give my workout 100%. In my head, I feel like I am competing against people.

I was amazed at how much sodium I was consuming. I am more careful about the nutrition values of the food I eat and especially careful of the amount of sodium so I can pick the lowest amount.

I have done so many FIRST things, it is hard to know what to write down - I have lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight a number of times and each time something different was the FIRST thing I changed - since I have been working on my weight for at LEAST 50 years, often some of those FIRST THINGS stuck and even when I regained my weight, I still did them so I needed a NEW FIRST THING because a lot of the FIRST THINGS were now part of my life. Water, avoiding processed foods, watching fiber content (choosing higher fiber instead of lower fiber), watching white foods (especially white flour, bread, sugar, rice, etc.), another time it was to focus on exercise, and now my first thing is simply to change my entire attitude about weight and weight loss and to focus on HEALTH rather than WEIGHT. All of those FIRST THINGS are PART OF MY NEW ATTITUDE but none alone works and none alone succeeded in keeping the weight off.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

The first thing I did this year was quit smoking. It's been 7 weeks now smoke free. Next is to start eating healthier which I have done by drinking water. I didn't realize I wasn't drinking a drop!

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.
