Never been an issue for us, we've gone where we wanted to go based on what we could afford or what was happening with work and deployments.

Now, both of our parents are deceased and we only have my grandmother and aunts and uncles on either side.

Our kids are grown and we have told them not to stress over it. Go where they want, when they want. DD had turkey with BF's step family last weekend. They are planning to be here for Thanksgiving. And are planning a late T-Day with his mom and family. LOL, they will both be turkeyed out!

Son is out of state and has to work.So we will see his family at another time.

We switch off with my sister in law for Christmas as my DH's parents are deceased. My Mom comes to our place as she is a widow.

This has not ever been something we've had angst over. From the very beginning of our marriage, my dh and I guarded our Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning for just us. Then we do stuff with the rest of the family at other times. THAT has varied through the years-- we've gone places, had people over, celebrated with part of the family early, celebrated with part of the family late, not celebrated with parts of the family at all . . . but we have our special traditions on Christmas Eve and morning and we guard that.

Thankfully our families just kind of accepted it.

This is the first holiday season for me and my SO as a couple and we're still feeling our way around this. I'm not yet willing to give up Christmas dinner at my parents' just yet so we're going to do Thanksgiving at his parents' and I'll pick him up for Christmas dinner at my parents'. We're lucky in that our respective sets of parents' live in the same metro area but that probably means that at some point someone will suggest combining the two families for the holidays and *oh the humanity!!*

We switch off every year. My brother-in-law goes to both since his family eats at 6 PM and her family eats at 2 PM.

Wow, at work lately there's a lot of folks who are lamenting about next Thursday and how some of their families are not gonna be happy if they don't go to their house for Thanksgiving dinner.

I know it must be tough when two families want their grown children to be with them but those children also have other places to go, what can one do?

Fortunately for my gf and I we have it worked out and no ones feelings are hurt.
