So, I made chiles en nogada so that I could do something pretty with pomegranates. I've never tried these before as they are usually made with beef, which I don't eat--I used turkey instead.

Holy heck are those good! Way too many carbs and calories though, especially when served with rice. I may have to invite friends over to make the rest of those disappear.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Good idea Penguin...I am going to freeze a few while they are cheap/in season.

Slaw is a good idea. I pulled a bunch of cabbage out of my garden a couple of weeks ago and I am still trying to eat through it all.

A whole pom is only 106 calories/26 carbs so it's OK to go wild and eat the whole thing. :)

I just had some pomegranate seeds with my lunch today--threw them in my cabbage slaw/salad with some slivered almonds, celery, red onion, and green goddess dressing. Yum!

It takes me a long time to eat a whole pomegranate, so after I seed it, I put them all in a Ziploc bag and pop it in the freezer. Keeps them fresh and they still taste great!

I think that the spoon method is better and a bit faster, but I cannot seem to do it without spraying too much juice around.

I had the same thought Bunnykicks! Get to the point already dude!

I am not suggesting juicing them--I NEVER consume fruit juice. All of the carbs, none of the fiber--bad idea.

Has anyone ever tried the POM wonderful juice? What did you think of it? It's very expensive over here in Malaysia! I'd rather plant my own tree!

I just eat them plain. Sometimes, I'll have some mixed with other fruit, or I'll put them on plain yogurt that I've sweetened with honey or maple syrup, but otherwise, I don't like messing with them. Salads? Sure. But I would never put them into a smoothie or anything.

I've been trying some new methods out, but I absolutely HATE the water method. It never really worked for me. I just kinda score the outside to break it open and then gently work the seeds out with my finger. It's relatively painless and mess-free.

I am so going to try that wooden-spoon extraction method!

Though I did sort of giggle at the irony - a 4.5 minute video about the "10 second" method of removing the seeds.

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

It only takes about a minute to get the arils out. The trick is to peel it in a bowl of water.

I cut the pom in half with a knife, then tear up the segments under water. The white bits will float to the top and the arils will sink. Drain off the water or throw the arils in a colander and it is ready to eat.

I love that recipe, Azul! I make it year-round, but only add the pomegranate when it's in season. I've been getting them 4/$1 at my produce stand for the past month or two, so they're cheap enough justify juicing them. My kids like to snack on them, but I'm so afraid they're going to stain everything in sight!

I love them myself! When I went to Israel, they made fresh juice. Okay, I get you lose some of the good stuff but it was soooo good!

My 12 year old niece loves to eat them plan. When she was younger, she called it princess food.

I put them in my yogurt - chopped apple/frozen blueberries/pomegranate/oats is yummy!

I eat the entire seed. The only down side is that they do get stuck in my teeth and can be difficult to dislodge (even with floss).
Taking a long time to eat is one of the things I like about pomegranates. When I'm feeling 'snacky' it's nice to have something time consuming

I never eat them because the last one I had (about 50 years ago) seemed to take about a month to eat. Are you supposed to eat the pips? I think I tried to suck all the juicy bit off the pips. It was so fiddly I never tried another one after that.

I ate pomegranates all the time as a teen but kind of forgot about them until a few years ago. Now my fingers are red stained and all the papers on my desk have little splatters on them for several months this time of year. The best price around here so far is $2 each

Pomegranates seem to be on sale for 99 cents everywhere I go these days. I love them and mostly just eat them as a fruit snack.

I really like this salad, though I reduce the quantity of some of the more carb-heavy ingredients (less corn, less orange) when I make it. iowagirleats.com/recipes/superfood-salad-w
