I prefer to have the main Thanksgiving meal around noon and then everyone can relax. The evening meal can just be leftovers.
If we are going to someone else's home for the meal, we kind of have to have the meal when the host says. Sometimes that time is weird to us- like eating a full meal in mid-afternoon.
I think that if you are the host or someone who the group will wish to accommodate then you will have the most input on the time. You can ask to meet earlier but it might be kind of late this year to get the time changed if everyone has already been planning on eating at 7 or 8 PM that day. They may have plans that would keep them from doing it earlier by this point.
I would talk to them all about the next holiday gathering and offer to host or make an important part of the meal and then lobby for your preferred meal time.
