I don't have the total gym but would like to offer this advice.
If you can find a place to try it before you buy it, do so. Make sure you can really use it physically.
Honestly assess if you will use it. I hate going to the gym. And I get bored easily. Can you do a variety of exercises with this piece of equipment? Will you use it? Can you listen to music or watch TV?
I bought a used Nordic Track Ski Machine and love it. I can watch TV or put my Nook on the bookstand and workout. I'm entertained, I'm working out, I'm happy.
I would like to add a rowing machine to my little home gym, just haven't found one yet.
I came across 5 different pieces of exercise equipment at a garage sale, $250 I could have it all. I didn't have the room for it so I asked how much the Total Gym was. $35 sold. Took it home and use it occasionally,
Life has many doors that lead to SUCCESS that many people fail to open

I had a total gym, it was fun to use and easy to store. I did use it but did not see the results that the tv ads show. When we moved I gave the Total gym to goodwill. I find I enjoy working out in a gym with free weights and that is working fir me.
I have no experiences to share but have always wanted one. There used to be a fitness studio in my area that had nothing but industrial model Total Gym machines & they had classes exclusively on those machines. I don't think it is still in operation but thought it was interesting.
Please update us on how you like the machine if you get it.

Think hard before you buy...many people are all excited then quickly become bored. Have you ever noticed how many exercise equipments are sold at yard sales? Hate to see you waste your hard earned money. Good luck!

17+ years ago I bought the Clinical Model 2400 and find it to be an excellent piece of equipment for strength training. When I had knee surgery, One of my rehab exercises was on their total gym...so it is recognized in the industry. It was worth the cost ($1000) with accessories. But like anything else that well made it is a little on the heavy side and while it can be folded up and put away...you will find it's easier to set it up and leave it there. I should use it more often than I do...but I'm getting back into it. www.bestfootforward.us/PATIENTS/HEALTHLIBR ARY/tabid/91/contentid/13771/Default.a spx
