hard to eat fish, especially after the earthquake/tidal wave/nuclear plant leak in Japan. They just had another earthquake about 100 miles out from the Fukashima plant this weekend. Sorry, the ocean is the ocean, the spill in Japan has never been cleaned up...really whatever, call me paranoid, but I just feel fishy about fish.

Liver. I hated liver as a child and I loathe it as an adult. I don't care if it's loaded with iron, I'll eat my spinach like Popeye.

Oh and I'm okay with brussel sprouts. They're just tiny cabbages. LOL !!

I am so unreasonably fussy! I have a few food "rules"...

*never eat anything that looks back at you - whole fish, for example
*never eat anything with sucker-feet - squid, frogs
*never eat anything which you must also consume its last meal(s) - clams, oysters, mussels

and then there's just "yucky stuff" which doesn't necessarily fit into "the rules" ...
slimy stuff - okra
stringy stuff - celery, unless it's well "strung"
most organ meats (although I'll eat liver as a pate or liverwurst, etc)

Aren't we funny? I'll bet our individual "rules" would change pretty fast if we were in truly dire straits!

I like most foods, but raw oysters is a NO, Organ meats NO, and Spam NO. I hardly ever eat processed foods in cans, boxes/bags, or frozen meals, or those chemical thingys that need reconstituted which resemble real food (and when I do, I'm always sorry I did)!

No beef, pork, liver, veal, rabbit, snake, or alligator, pumpkin, beets, garbanzo beans, jalapenos, lobster, sausage, pomegranate, mangoes or kiwi~

I'm not much for meats and certain fruits and pretty much all dairy~

First thing that came to mind was Water Chestnuts. I just don't get them. I don't think they're gross, I just don't like the texture for some reason. I'll eat them if they show up on my plate - unless they are wrapped in bacon and smothered in soy sauce - yuck, yuck, yuck. Don't like the texture of okra either.
most things I will eat But I do not like canned peas or mushrooms, I love fresh mushrooms tho: Sauteed with some garlic and pepper. yum.
I've never tried but don't like the idea of organ meats either, or veal, but I would try it. I don't really like pickled anything except cucumbers and occasionally Jalapenos on a pizza or in tacos, but I prefer them not pickled. And I don't really care for scallops, crab or lobster, But I love shrimp, walleye and halibut.
Can't think of anything else.... oh, Blood Sausage, gives me the shivers for some reason.

In my teens I did do some oyster shucking with dad (or was it clams...I think it might have been clams). I don't think I would eat them raw today like I did back then. I remember one was kinda overly slimy but it was 'down the hatch' with a squirt of lemon juice. I can't bring myself to eat escargot these days either. (Yes I did eat them in my younger adventurous--foolish--days.)

Gorgonzola is a delicious blue cheese...but I still haven't tried Limburger--probably because it smells bad. Limburger was one of dad's favorites--maybe I should try it.

Well, I'm a pretty adventurous eater and love most foods but I can't stand cooked avocado! I love raw avocado though! But cooked, it a whole different thing! Cooked avocado tastes gross!

I also can't stand blue cheese! I'm okay with most cheeses but not blue or any with mold or maggots! Like that cheese I saw on TV!!!!! How can anyone eat anything with maggots in them?!

Green beans, beets (want to like them but they taste like dirt), black eyed peas (also taste like dirt; grandparents used to make us eat them every year on New Years Day for luck), most fish/seafood (I'll eat tuna fish salad on occasion and deep fried mild white fish if I have to), etc.

I have no problem with funghi. Most cheeses, soy sauce and antibiotics have their beginnings in funghi as do several other dairy products. How about beer and wine? What I don't like is the mold growing in my shoes, on my sewing machine (vintage) and on my leather weightlifting belt. (Basement is a tad damp I guess. I did move a dehumidifier down there recently.)
I never liked blue cheeses as a youngster but now I love'em. Danish Blue is okay until you taste Stilton which is better until you taste Gorgonzola which is the king of (blue) cheeses. Oh and Peccorino Romano is not just tasty as a grating cheese but I often eat it they way it is--hard.

Oh, and any type of organ or (what I would consider) "odd" part of an animal. Meat for the most part grosses me out, though I can handle turkey and chicken so long as I'm not thinking about it. I'm really picky with it though!!

GOALWTIN7: LOL! Your description reminds me of the time many years ago when I was sitting next to a person who ordered raw oysters on the half shell. OMG! I had to look away and not even think about it. It doesn't bother me at all now to sit next to people such as my 3 children and their SO's, all of whom like raw oysters, when they eat them. But it has taken me several years to get to that point.

Biscuits and gravy. When I see it at a restaurant ordered by the person at the next table, it makes me sick. It looks disgusting (the color, texture,) and why would you want that unhealthy stuff in your body.

The idea of liver is beyond gross to me. I tried it once and do not understand how anybody would like it.

The idea of eating rare meat nauseates me. I don't eat a lot of meat but I'm not a vegetarian and do like chicken and turkey and some mild fish like Haddock. I cannot really say for sure I hate the taste of rare meat because I have never knowingly ate it and just looking at it turns my stomach. In fact I don't even like to touch raw meat when preparing it for others, but will force myself to do so, if I have to. Yuck. I also don't like beer, but is that really considered food?

There's things i like more, and things i like less, and things i don't care for much... but... there's almost nothing that I wouldn't eat. Though, once when my son was in grade school I got some sort of prepackaged "cheese" (it was "mozzarella style" cheese cut into shapes of sea creatures), looked handy for lunches. HE wouldn't eat it. I tried it and I have to say, it was bloody awful, oily plastic chemical blech, i was prepared for a "processed cheese" flavour but this trumped all. Awful awful awful. My DOG would not eat it. And when that hound won't eat something you really have to question whether it is edible.

I've decided not to read Fifty Shades of Grey. The book title sounds exactly like what's happening to my hair!!

I think a lot of my food dislikes were the result of how that food was first introduced to me...

I can't stand okra....my first experience was a slimy mess...and yet as an adult I tried it again, fried...not bad, but I was still turned off.

Liver and other organ meats...can't stand the smell...don't care if it comes with bacon&onions

head cheese ....(for those that don't know what it is ...a terrine or meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig, and often set in aspic.) No way jose...the name alone turns me off.

sweetbreads.....you are better off not knowing what you are eating....thank you Hannibal Lechter.

If mushrooms are slimy, then they were either not prepared well or weren't good to begin with.

I love this time of year for hunting and cooking with wild mushrooms, especially chanterelles. They should be wiped off well and then dry roasted in a frying pan with just a bit of salt to bring the juices out. Mmmmm.

I don't like cream of wheat. I don't know, no matter what I put in it, it's gross.

I also don't like egg beaters. I like the liquid egg whites in the carton, I like regular egg, I don't like egg beaters. Also, I hate runny yolks. It's gotta be scrambled or in an omlette.

Boneless chicken whatevers. Nuggets, wings, don't care. I'm not convinced it's actual chicken unless there's a bone in there!

The only organ meat I will eat is liver. No kidneys or tripe. They smell like what they used to contain. No heart or lung or udder.

I do!

I don't like cottage cheese, pumpkin or raisins. There's more but I would be typing all night if I listed them all

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

CYGNUSXR1: I love eating mushrooms, even slimy ones.

However, here are some foods I would have to be truthfully starving to eat or paid money to eat:

(1) sweet rice pudding with raisins
(2) hominy grits
(3) stewed tomatoes with bread chunks
(4) cooked spinach by itself, not when it is included in dishes
(5) arugula on anything, especially on pizza
(6) butter milk as a drink, not in a recipe
(7) mincemeat pie
(8) yams and sweet potatoes

Yes, I have tried all the above, most more than once. No go!

Does anyone but me have any food peeves? Just curious.

I don't like mushrooms. When cooked they are slimy and gross. And for some odd reason I don't like the idea of eating a fungus.
