I'm doing the Shred diet, and there are three snacks a day - two 100 calorie and one 150. As long as you keep your meals in check, I think it's a good idea. For me, it keeps me from being ravenous!

as a diabetic I try to do what the doctor tells me to eat. a3 small meals and 2 small snaks a day. (24). that way I do not eat a lot of sweets daily. a half piece of carrot cake is aenough. smile.

The only snack i plan for is a small evening snack - a cookie or some toast and pb or whatever... I try and aim for 200 calories give or take.

However, I tend to spread out my lunch over a period of time. I will pack, like, yogurt, grapes, and some soup.... and end up getting hungry before "official lunchtime" and eating the yogurt... eating the soup at lunch... and saving the grapes till afternoon-coffee-break. So you might call that "snacking" but to me it's just "a long lunch" :)

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

"I've heard that it's best to eat three square meals a day and nothing in between." I can't say that I have read or been told this by professional dieticians or nutritionists. I have found numerous places on the Net that suggest healthy snacks can be an important part of our diets. I have read several times that some experts feel 6 meals/snacks spread throughout the day can be a healthy approach. Of course, since almost anything proposed about diet and exercise will have people who refute such-and-any, I can not prove that having 6 meals/snacks a day is good. However, since you don't like eating large meals, I suggest that having 5-7 smaller ones (some snacks) would be good.

everyday! I'll have maybe an apple or yogurt I go for the more healthier snacks now, cucumbers hahahaha who ever thought I'd put cucumbers in a snack category hahahaha but it is one of my favorites with a little lite raspberry dressing YUM

I plan my food for the whole day and eat when I'm hungry. So I will bring two muffins, two hard boiled eggs, a cheese slice, an apple, a spinach/strawberry/yogurt smoothie, 1/2 ounce almonds, carrot/celery sticks, and a slice of vegetable lasagna (or any combonation of 800 calories) for my breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Sometimes I eat most of it at one sitting, sometimes I eat it one item at a time. Depends on how I feel. Then I get home from work and I eat dinner and a snack before bed.

Something to think about is that snacks should be healthy extensions of meals. For example a piece of fruit, not a bag of chips. Or a yogurt not ice cream. Snacking is one of the ways I get all of my fruits and veggies in for the day.

I like to eat! But I don't like eating big meals anymore. Big meals leave me feeling stodgy and bloated. I eat 200 - 300 calorie mini meals every 2 to 3 hours. And I frequently have my last meal about 30 minutes before bedtime.
Do what works for you. If your hungry before bed have a snack. Just count your snacks or mini meals.

I allow for 4 snacks a day. I sometimes have an early morning one, and then one between b/fast and lunch, another afternoon snack, and then I ALWAYS have a snack before I go to bed. I allow for them in my calories. I think you need to do what works best for you. I find it very hard to go with JUST 3 meals and nothing else, even when the meals are bigger.

I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I believe that it keeps your internal engine moving good. it does keep my blood sugar at an even level.........no highs or lows.

I eat frequently throughout the day. And some of my snacks have as many calories as some of my meals . . . I have found this works best for me, preventing me from feeling ravenously hungry at mealtimes, which leads me to overeat.

Some days I have four snacks-- one between breakfast and lunch, one between lunch and supper, and two after dinner. That's unusual, though-- normally I have three snacks. I have to snack before bed, because I take medication that upsets my stomach if I don't eat it with food.

I usually only eat one snack, sometimes none. I tend to feel less hungry throughout the day when I eat larger, more filling meals less often. I tried to eat smaller meals 5-6 times a day for a long time, but it just left me feeling hungry and often ended up leading to overeating in the evening.

If eating smaller meals more often works best for you, by all means do it! We all have to find what works best for us individually. Eating in the evening won't make the calories turn to fat. That's a myth.

If it's hard for you to eat large meals, then there is no reason to force yourself to do it, and it's perfectly acceptable to eat smaller meals with snacks in between.

Calories don't magically turn to fat based on the time of day that you eat them, though. As long as the number of calories you eat is lower than the number of calories you use, you will lose weight, no matter when you eat. I find it helpful not to eat after dinner, but that's mainly because I am less likely to track the food at that time of day, and so I'm likely to go over my range. But that's different than calories just "turning to fat". Similar result, though!

What are your thoughts on snacking and weight loss? I've heard that it's best to eat three square meals a day and nothing in between. Other people say you boost your metabolism by dividing your calories over meals and snacks. Do you think it makes a difference? I ask because it's hard on my stomach to eat large meals, so I eat 3 small ones and usually two snacks. I try not to eat in the late evening because i'm afraid that the calories will turn to fat.
