Hello, it looks as if you've only just started on Spark people so welcome. You'll be surprised how quickly you start to change your habits when you start tracking your food. Don't be too hard on yourself. Oh, and when I first joined SP I upped my calorie allowance for a while. I figured that I was in this for the long haul so anything below 2000 cals a day was a bonus. So I set my allowance to a maximum of 1900 (instead of about 1600). If I hadn't done that I'd have ended each day feeling guilty and a failure when the reality was that I'd really improved on how I'd eaten in the past. I do try to keep within SP limits now, but that came gradually, not immediately. My weight loss hasn't been as dramatic as some, but it's coming off for good. I'm down more than 2 sizes.
So what I'm saying is, take on board what others have said about the healthy snacks. But even if you cut down your snacking by just 100 cals every few days it's an improvement. And honestly, if you start tracking those snacks, you'll soon find you really don't want to be eating them (especially when you start looking at the fat content of most of them.) You'll find yourself coming back to this post to see what others have recommended about healthy snacks.

Also are you home alone each evening? If so, are there places you could go? People you could invite round? Nearly always for me mindless snacking has been when I've been alone - no-one to share the snacks with!

Only have good/healthy food choices in your home. Give away or throw out the food(s) that are or will defeat your goal(s).

Try chewing gum when you get the urge to eat, brushing your teeth nothing tastes good after that or just keep healthy snacks around the house like apples and carrot sticks with some low cal dip... Also my new love is cucumbers with a little bit of Raspberry dressing...
Good luck on your journey you can do this!

Are there any strategies for dealing with nervous eating? I will eat a days worth of calories from 4 to bedtime as snacking!! I start every day saying I won't do this, but at the end of the day, I'm kicking myself for failing yet another day.
