Whatever you do, don't give up!! This happens, especially when sodium intake is higher than usual

This happens to all of us. You may be holding fluid. Are you watch your sodium. Prepackage food and fast foods are loaded with sodium and fat. Another thing that may be embarrassing to mention for some, is constipation. If you aren't having regular bowel movements, that can cause you weight to go up or stay the same weight. Sometime a plateau is about to happen and weight will jump up. Stress can cause all of these things to happen. Drink a lot of water, eat more veggies with fiber, exercise in a relaxing manner, "Walking for example." Eventually it will come back down. Don't sweat to much. It is aggravating, but it will pass.

I agree with Obiesmom! I can "watch" every bite I eat. It all looks wonderful. And every bowl or plate full of food is one serving....right? Seriously, if I don't measure my servings there is no telling how much I am really eating and then I need to track it.

I've found that if I start a new exercise routine I can gain two pounds. Your muscles sometimes retain water. When this is the case its gone in a week.

Hang in there.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

Muscle does 'not' weigh more than fat. Muscle takes up less space than fat.

Think of a pound of whipped cream verses a pound of steel. Sure they look and feel different but its still a pound one is not more than the other.

Here's to trading our whipped cream for steel!

This is only your 2nd post, you must be a "first timer", this kind of thing happens often, don't let 2 lbs. get you down!! Water sticks inside you, depends on a lot of things. Many people don't lose water weight by drinking tons of water, some of that is an age old myth. Your kidneys are different than every body elses. 2 lbs. is not unusual, you will get used to this kind of thing over the years.................

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

MARGIE2YOU,

What you're experiencing really is perfectly normal. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to gain weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days. I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of a shift in my water weight.

Also, not to get TMI, but did you weigh yourself before a bowel movement ? If you don't do a poop in the morning, the physical weight of all the food and water you ate the day before is still in your intestines. Your waste products have weight. The food you eat has weight. The water you drink has weight and these can all cause the scale to go up.

Try it some time. Weigh yourself before and after a bowel movement. Did you lose weight ? YES. did you lose fat ? Nope. these kinds of scale fluctuations really are normal.

in addition to the good responses already given:

I'll say this because I know that **I** am guilty of it: 'watching what I eat'...well, that can be dangerous if you are not measuring and tracking EVERYTHING that you eat (and drink, if it's anything but water).

also, really pay attention to your sodium. Too much can make you retain water. If you eat very much food that you do not prepare from scratch, it's really easy to be way too high on sodium ranges.

keep in mind the scale isn't the only (or even the best) way to measure progress. A tape measure, the way your clothes fit, changes in your heart rate and endurance, etc.

So many things can effect your weight...so wait a few days and reweigh! Whatever you do...DO NOT GIVE UP...this is a lifestyle change! And you may weigh next week and be down 3-4 pounds! I would be careful of thinking you gained or lost one or two pounds based on one weigh-in. I have "gained" as much as 5 pounds in one day and "lost" as much as four pounds in one day based on water loss, or waste in my system, etc. How our clothes fit, consistent weigh-ins over several days, etc. would better tell us if we gained or lost weight.
