I've never been able to think of a reward that was something special, doable whenever, and affordable before though I'd been trying to think of something for a while. Thanks to the 20 things to do instead of eat list I finally figured it out! for every 3 or 5lbs I lose (not sure which yet), I'm going to by myself flowers. I love to have them in the house but can never justify the small but not insignificant expense for a week's worth of pleasure...but in terms of celebrating weight loss, I think that's perfect for me and I'll have a beatiful daily reminder of my hard work...then they''ll fade and it will be time to work on the next few lbs. Thanks guys!

I used to reward myself for losing weight with food too. It was definitely counterproductive. Now I reward myself with a happy dance. I dance around and say Woo Hoo! I pay attention to the present moment: how good I feel and how proud I am of myself.

Small inexpensive things like nail polish or small craft supplies. I'll also get "investment" items such as a good water bottle and lunch tote that I use to help stay on track with my health and to save money by avoiding the vending machines.

Anything with my dogs-snuggling, playing, sleeping or just having them snoozing while I'm puttering around.

Seven Healthy Thanksgiving Tips
1. Eat real, whole, natural food
2. Eat slowly, breathe deeply between bits and stop when full
3. Don't feel pressured into eating anything you don't want (food
DOES NOT equal love no matter what the cook says)
4. Take a walk in nature as part of the festivities
5. Share, or at least focus on, what you appreciate about your life
6. Accept everything as it is rather than wishing it were different
7. Don't engage in any drama going on around you. Just send quiet
love to all, including yourself.

I think these are great tips for each and every day!

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

Never give up what you want the MOST for what you want at the MOMENT!

I have to do so much running all the time, I look for things I can do at home. I love a hot mug in my hands this time of year, filled with tea of my choice. emoticon

I "surf" for webcams in warm locations. emoticon emoticon

A hot bath, I keep goodies for that. Anything that wastes time is complete luxury for me. Yet feel treated without a lot of time spent!

Someone said they don't do anything for about a half hour. Good idea! Sometimes in the winter I'll buy flowers or a plant to brighten up the space. I love flowers.

What a wonderful adaptation of twenty things to do instead of eating. Congratulations on completing your recent run. Spark people has helped me rekindle the vision of health and wellness in me. Today I reflect on the killing of Kennedy ...KKK...)Kennedy, King, Kennedy) Hmmm Just thought of that acronym. I was a fifteen year old cross country rising star attending the California North Coast Scholastic Championship on this day fifty years ago. This topic reminds me of something I did to change my relationship to food many years ago. It still works for me when I remember to use it.

In school the DARE (anti-drugs) program had a poster that used little mock road signs/icons in a table format that was 4 signs across by 5 down. It said, "20 Things to do rather than do drugs". Now as an anti-drug message it was rather simplistic. But as a "20 Things to do rather than eat that chocolate cake" it was much more effective for me. This poster stuck with me for some reason and in my 20's on my first trip down weight loss avenue I made a list of 20 things I liked to do rather than eat and it really helped change my relationship to eating.

In the spirit of the things, here is my current list (break-dancing has fallen off the list...).
1. Read a book.
2. Watch a movie.
3. Go window shopping or maybe Goodwill shopping.
4. Buy or pick some flowers for the house.
5. Call or visit a friend for coffee (no cake).
6. Make something crafty.
7. Research something I want to do in the future or start planning a project.
8. Start making some food item that can't be eaten immediately ie bread, slow cooker.
9. Plan my next meal (counter intuitive but it reminds me that I will get to eat again soon, might as well plan something nice).
10. Write a To Do List and prioritise it.
11. Go on Spark.
12. Go help someone; school, community garden, elderly neighbour, sick friend, depressed coworker.
13. Sit and talk to my partner (BF).
14. Make a nice low-cal drink.
15. Tidy something up or reorganise an area.
16. Go for a walk/run.
17. Hot bath with all the trimmings.
18. Mani/pedi/facial/body buff/moisturise/shave/condition/etc
19. Look at old diaries/albums/memorabilia
20. Prep healthy food for future use.

Glad I don't have to create an icon for each of those! Since boredom is a huge trigger for my eating as well as its opposite, stress, these things are all great for reducing stress through being proactive and creating something to do when I feel bored and lifeless.

Now I will cut and paste onto my SP page to remind myself...

When I reach my 1st short term goal (under 200lbs) I plan to treat myself to a small tattoo to symbolize my journey. And for each milestone I will add to the tattoo.

pedicure is number 1 on my list but...I always do it anyway so not really a "reward" for weight loss.

I go shopping and buy a couple pair of pants each time my size goes down 2 whole sizes. I do have some clothes in range 10-18 so I don't have to buy all new but new is a definite treat!

I like to shop at a thrift store. I don't want to buy a bunch of new clothes until I reach my goal weight, but a lot of my slacks no longer fit, so I get secondhand clothing at the thrift store.

At the thrift store, I can also afford to buy clothes in my next size (down, of course!) and use it as motivation to get to the point where they fit the way I want.

I treat myself with all kinds of stuff! Clothes (smaller size!), make-up, shoes, sporting gear...
When I reach my target weight I'll want something BIG, haven't decided what it'll be yet, but thinking about all the things it could be is highly motivating already!

Just got back from an evening out that included access to a buffet dinner. I was mindful of my options and successfully enjoyed plenty without over doing. Just finished entering everything in my nutrition tracker and was emoticon emoticon emoticon pleased to discover I had stayed within my target range for the day.
Salads with no dressing, fresh fruit and plenty of fresh veggies goes a long way to a fulfilling meal with little to look back on with sorrow. What could have been a disaster instead became another notch on the road to victory. Thanks be to God for protection from the manifold temptations.
